I was hoping to find out a bit more about what happened to King Maric. Was it mentioned in game at all? Has it been mentioned elsewhere?
So... What happened to Maric?

He was eaten by a corrupted nug. A broodnuger, actually.

Ahhhh.... thought that may be the case. Those nugs are wily bastards.

Have you read the calling? It might say.

I did read the Calling. It does NOT say.
Which is why I asked here if there was anything mentioned about it. Maric is quite well at the end.

Old age? I have no idea now that I think of it. Maybe he just got to be so legendary and awesome that he became a god like Septim in The Elder Scrolls. >_>

lol doubtful given the setting
Either way I was curious and hoped to see it resolved in game but I didn't see it. Thought I may have missed it.

I've seen a few theories:
A) Nothing to remark on, he got sick naturally and died and no one's specified the details just because they're very unexicting.
It's mentioned somewhere that he was in talks with Orlais, and as distressing as the thought is, it wouldn't be too much of as a stretch to imagine Loghain's insane hatred of them being enough to consider Maric 'tainted' and have something done about it. Maric may have been the first victim of Loghain's paranoia.
C) It's kept ambiguous for a reason. To be a plot point in a sequel/expansion, another book, or something.

Yep and add to those 3 one more.
He contacted the blight while in the Deep Roads (The Calling) and it slowly killed him as he suspected it did Rowan from the first trip there.

Good theories. I guess Mr. Gaider only knows for sure.
