"Leliana remained in the royal court for a time, mourning. She poured her
heart into a ballad that would eventually become known throughout
thedas. But after one performance, leliana quietly vanished. Some say
that the maker came to her in a vision again that night. Smiling, tears
in her eyes, she told a maid that she would see her love again at last"

please say it isn't so T_________T

Well it is so, if her personality isn't changed and The Warden romances her then dies in the final battle she can't really take it and eventually does kill herself. It's the big sucker punch for the US ending with Leliana.

Yeah if you don't live and romanced her, sad business.

Unless you harden her.

What happens differently if you harden her? I don't have any relevant playthroughs on hand to check.

I think it's rumored she goes back to Orlais. Not a great ending, all things considered, but at least she doesn't kill herself.

Ah, okay. She does that if you survive sometimes too (if she isn't romanced). There are considerably worse things. Thank Flemeth for the Morrigan Get-Out-of-Death-Free Card. ;)

I much prefer the roll a Loghain, to get out of dodge, but thats just me.

Also I have never even thought of sparing Marjorlane, her voice just NO.
I can see why Loghain has his reasons for not liking Orlesians after talking to her.

Took me a second playthrough for that to sink in. I thought she meant that literally, that "The Maker" does a dues ex machina and takes her. But no. she kills herself. :(
Whats worse is, my Warden gets destroyed in every sense by the Archdemon jumping bodies. So even if there is an afterlife in Dragon Age, my Warden's soul won't even be there. He simply no longer exists.

My first run was an US one.

Leaving her at the gates, knowing I wouldnt be coming back, trying to save a land you would never see saved, then watching your own funeral was just painful.

Seeing Leliana's face, and hearing Alistair say "some of us even loved him..." was just another boot to gut. Literally in the end I just sat there feeling so hollow, even though the land was saved and all was good, hearing how Leliana killed herself was just so hard.

Thanks to Bioware I slipped into a spiral of self loathing!

The game's good, isn't it, Giggles? *sigh* I've been left with that hollow, punched in the gut feeling myself. I had an elven mage who'd romanced Alistair before I knew how that didn't work out if he became king. She broke it off and made the US. I cried at her funeral.

Just one more reason to do the DR

Certainly, if you want to risk the consequences.

I usually have Loghain take care of the AD. He wants to do it, my warden wants to live - it all works out.

I've never let any of my Main characters die so I'm not really too familiar with this, but doesn't it seem like the reason she says she's going to see the Warden again, is because in fact she IS going to see the Warden again? The Warden comes back to life after all, in Awakenings. Since the Warden doesn't stay dead, she clearly would be able to see her again without it having anything to do with killing herself, although certainly if you aren't familiar with Awakenings it would indeed seem like that's what she meant.

You know, that post sounds remarkably serious given its content.

Edit: It's not like Leliana is even in Awakening.

Importing a dead warden into Awakening is an artificial choice and makes the assumption your warden didn't die after all (because either you did the DR or Alistair/Loghain took care of the AD). That's why so many players were up in arms about it.

There's no lore to say a dead warden miraculously comes back to life like Commander Shepard in order to kick butt one more time. Dead warden stays dead and is carted off to Weisshaupt to be entombed.

Man i know exactly how you feel. I never got myself to play an US ending before. I just happen to see that Leliana Epilogue on youtube and it was a hard punch in the gut nonetheless. I think they should add more info for god's sake. Say she volunteered for a dangerous Darkspawn killing mission and died. I just can't imagine Leliana, drinking poison or stabbing herself, and while the pain starts to ease off, she weeped tears of joy and gave a slight smile before her last breath..... *shiver*

I think if i would rank all the endings starting from most depressing

1. US with Leliana ending up killer herself
2. US with Zev ending up not loving anyone again
3. US with Alistair saying his final goodbyes at the funeral
4. Doing the ritual with Morrigan revealing her regrets through the ring

Why not? Didn't she do something like that to her victims when she was a bard. I'd call it poetic justice.

2. US with Zev ending up not loving anyone again

And I think Zev tries the Suicide by crows thing, like his suicide by Warden attempt, by taking them on directly. Hence the ending where he isn't sure if it's a victory or not.

Not really, you can just have Loghain kill the archdemon.  Problem solved, everyone (who deserves to) lives.

That's what I'd do, if I didn't do the DR I'd have Loghain (or Allistair if I didn't let Loghain live) take the bullet at the end. But I guess the way to know for sure what happens if the Warden dies, is to play through Awakenings with a Warden that died in Origins and came back to life in Awakenings. I've only played through Awakenings once, and my Warden did the DR so she was still very much alive, and I got the ending with my Warden and Leliana together both at the end of Origins and Awakenings, so if you get that ending at the end of Awakenings then you know she didn't kill herself before you came back to life, but if you don't get that ending that would definitely suggest she killed herself. Since I don't know the answer to that all I can do is guess, but my guess is that her 'vision' was indeed of seeing the Warden again, alive, after the events of Awakenings and that they get together again in a very happy reunion indeed!

Really the US kicked my companions in the guts as well.

Morrigan lost her only friend, by me telling her to GTFO.
Zevran loses himself to a life he hates,
Leliana commits suicide from grief.
And then Alistair most likely lives with more PTSD and survivors guilt.

Man am I glad the DR and Loghain Redeemer endings exist otherwise I might become emo at the end of lets see 14 runs now.
