Fallout 3 barely qualifies as an FPS. They could have made gunfights a whole lot better for starters.

Guys you have nothing to worry about. Bioware is an RPG company, not an FPS company. They're not going to make Mass Effect an FPS. This is just a shooter fanboy dreaming up an idea. Relax. That's like trying to get Treyarch or Infinity Ward to create an RPG or arcade racer. Or trying to get a rock artist to rap. Different companies specialize in certain genres. Bioware specializes in RPG's. Their main focus is story, not mindless FPS.

You do know they did make a FPS yes?:?

or like ive mentioned many times before a mass effect game where humans found prothean technolgy on mars then they advance into the universe. now when you look at sci fi films books or games we see humans in space but how often do we see how mankind gets there?

let's say it like this;
if i just want to run around and shoot stuff i load up my copy of COD / MW2 QUAke or whatnot
and if i want to be immersed in a great story i put my copy of ME /DA:O and pretend i'm in a different world.

and i want it to stay that way, o matter if it would work or not .
i do not want a cross over from either side

if BW would start to turn their games into FPS
where would i get my great story from?

They would only be changing it from third-person to first-person.

The story would still be there.

That wasn't an FPS. It was an action game, you were playing as a mech. :pinched: Besides, that was 1996. A long time ago.

ME should remain how it is.

However what I've always wanted was a first person perspective game where shooting was up to player skill, but RPG elements would affect things like stealth, lockpicking, hacking, persuasion and other non-combat skills or indirect attributes like climbing, strength (for both melee damage and breaking things). CQC (for stealth kills, takedowns and disarms), or disguise (think the Hitman games, only without having to kill someone to get it(.

Also, make it so it doesn't bottleneck you into combat. For example, if you had a mission to get info off  a computer in a building, you could blast your way in and take the hard drive, sneak in and hack the computer, or use persuasion to get someone that works there to get it for you. Make the combat brutal so it's only the best option if you're good at it or tactically smart.

Make the cutscenes in first person, with the camera perspective being the player's view (like the first Crysis) and have true first person (being able to see your legs, climbing animations for ladders, etc).  Add in weapon customization (scopes, silencers, etc) and an actual economy where you have to buy all your gear. Add to all that conversation trees that have actual impact on the story.

Another thing I've always wanted in a game is tolerable failure. By that I mean in most action games there will be something like at the end you need to blow up a chopper before it escapes. If you fail, it goes back to checkpoint and you have to try and try again til you succeed. Instead make it along the lines of you have to destroy the chopper before it leaves. If you fail, you need to do extra missions/work before you can proceed to where you would have picked up if you succeeded, or perhaps your next mission becomes more difficult because now they know you're coming. Or think of the possibilities of a hostage situation where if you mess it up, they get executed and the guilt really is on your shoulders.

Ambitious, yes, but any company that pulls it off will be Gods in my eyes.

I've never played Deus Ex, but there was nothing FPS about Fallout 3 in the PC-version anyway, and thank you for that, Bethesda.

you shoot people in first person view. Doesn't it sound like a FPS to you?
It has great story, character development, coherent and free-open world, everything a rpg has.
But don't tell me it doesn't have first person shooting.

By the way, if you haven't play Deus Ex, I highly recommend you to stop having a life for the next week, uninstall all the game you have, Instal DE and play it. You won't regret it, believe me.

Mass Effect plot and storytelling is like the Smurfs compared to Deus Ex.

Oh great. Now I want to play it.

Yeah sure first turn it into first person  and then they sart that isit should have multiplayer
and out  goes the story and all the other stuff that makes ME a great game because it gets in the way of  shooting  and blowing stuff up

If Mass Effect ever becomes a FPS...or a multiplayer online deathmatch based game...I will certainly retire from purchasing Bioware products...end of the story.

I hate the first person perspective. It's dizzying, it feels like I'm a camera on a stick tied to a skateboard, and not being able to feel my character's body and where it is or what it's touching makes environments and especially platforming a bit of a pain. I really just do not see the attraction, like, at all.

But that's just me.

Don't count on it. I'm more than sure they won't make one. They're making RPG's now. Mass Effect 2 isn't a third person shooter, it's an RPG with 3p shooter combat, that's all.

Deus Ex. Not everything, you mentionned, but close. And the story is just genius.
You know, it's not just for fame that this game is indiscutably mentionned as the greatest game of all time.

well Polite... i think you're right

at the very least i hope BW will keep making the Story driven games they have and not follow the FPS masses
