The Mass Effect universe has so much potential for new and exciting games after the current trilogy is over. To use that potential on something so generic as a first person shooter would be an utter waste. But seeing at how every second game these days seems to be a FPS, and EA being the way they are, a ME first person shooter is probably what'll happen at some point.

Then we should start rioting now already before it is too late and have already started work on a mindless ME FPS game:devil:

EDIT: or start a suicde mission on Bioware HQ to prevent them from starting such a thing;)

Part of the problem with an ME FPS is that the guns in mass effect just wouldn't look badass enough holding them in first person view.

You should get somebody to toss green paper out of a blimp down the street so everybody runs over while you burn the place down

If you want a quality FPS, go back and play Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders. It's what real men play instead of COD.

Besides, the only spinoff that fans would appreciate (and would actually work) would be a strategy/RPG like Jagged Alliance or Fallout Tactics.

I don't play FPS's at all so sorry if I can't get on board with this idea.

I can just imagine now.... Call of Effect: Mass Halo Modern Duty.

You play as a one eyed Volus on a mission to bring peace and love to the Terminus Systems, one bullet at a time.

While I understand many peoples' worries about a spinoff game going to an FPS (because, honestly, most FPS games are crap, with only a few innovative ones popping up every couple of years), the amount of people saying "change ANYTHING, whatsoever, and I am outta here" is ridiculous. If game companies don't experiment, and try new ideas, or venture into areas that they have never tried before, then the games become stagnant. I mean, if every game company in the 90's took this stance, we'd all still be playing platformers, DOOM clones, and Fallout 1. Yeah, they were fun, but If someone plays the same game (albeit, with a different story) for 4 or 5 times straight, it WILL get boring. For some people it could take longer, but there is a point, where change IS necessary, and sometimes the tried and true formula needs to be molded a little. If not, Mass Effect 1 would have never come about. So, I am open to whatever Bioware decides to do with their IP (it still is, correct?), whether it be FPS, RTS, Racing/Flight Sim (although I am a bit iffy n that prospect), as I doubt they would intentionally drive it into the ground. Just my thoughts on this.

Well I wouldn't mind one ME FPS, as long as it doesn't have that arcadey combat system of ME2. But of course it won't have that system because FPS and TPS don't work the same way. Maybe something like the Star Wars: Jedi Knight/Dark Forces series.

Nah, I hope ME stays with the ME style. Its unique, not TPS, not RPG, not cinematic interactive movie, its all three bundled very nicely together and very well done so nope I hope they stay with what they have made.

Very much this

And I hate the CoD cover system, why do so many people have a hard-on for it? The GoW2 system is more intuitive, fits the engine and ME already has it. They just need to add the other elements, like blind-firing, bracing heavy weapons on cover, sticky grenades etc to flesh out the combat system, not redesign it from the ground up. And they can do all that without impacting the narrative.

Why FPS? The third person cutscenes and dialogue would look weird.

No single-player ones, anyway. They rely on multiplayer to keep the twitch-crowd happy who learn how to exploit AI routines and overcome bot-based challenges.

The multiplayer ones have extreme replay value (one only has to look at Counterstrike, or TF2, to prove that - we're talking years of replay, well over a DECADE in the former's case), but hopefully Mass Effect isn't going all the way there - or at least, not at the expense of story/single-player.

I don't think it's that people are really anti-FPS, it's just that there are already so many companies out there making quality FPS games and so few making quality RPG's that most don't feel there is a need for BW to go down the FPS role.

I don't mind fps elements if they keep the rest same, but I'm against anything that says multiplayer and ME in same package. Bioware should stick on what they do best and that's stories, singleplayer stories.

They could always do the cool new in thing.  They develop the single player and then higher a company with multiplayer experience to develop that.

In addition to that, there are very few quality TPS games out there. We've got Gears of War... that's all I can come up with off the top of my head.

Buff ME3 with some of the other cool elements of Gears - blind-fire, different grenade types (proximity, bouncy, sticky etc.), critical hits to grounded enemies, human(collector/geth?) shields, mobile cover and we'll be in business.

And TPS fits Mass Effect like a glove. It appeals to the RPG need to see our character, and revel in the changes as he gets better gear, or as his morality deepens/removes his scars. It results in seamless transitions between conversation and action. And finally, we're already using the right engine for it.

Also give us back more talents per class like ME1, remove global cooldown, reintegrate weapon mods/biotic amps/omnitool mods but keep the current armor system, and make upcoming fights less obvious, I swear I roll my eyes everytime I see anything "chest-high" to the point that I get a twinge of frustration even when I see a desk or fence or brick garden wall IRL <_<

Also in terms of FPS games that were "good" (I am not an FPS fan so it takes quite a bit for me to like one)

- Escape from Butcher Bay was a good FPS on the old xbox and even "decent" all things consided for the 360.

- Thief. That series speaks for itself.

Personally I don't think ME3 needs to go more TPS then ME2 did but I wouldn't be against the next franchise being heavy TPS as long as they still deliver a great story.  I still prefer ME to ME2 but that's just me, I don't really like bluring of genre lines.

I'd love an FPS set within the ME universe! But, gosh, I'd hate for BioWare to move away from RPGS. *Sigh* If only the Mass Effect franchise was owned by a larger company with a whole host of development studios under its control.

Oh, wait.

Seriously. You all realise we could have our cake AND eat it too, right? ;) The numbered ME series could remain RPGs developed by BioWare, with numerous non-RPG spin-offs developed by different studios. (With BioWare probably being involved in an advisory/overseeing capacity regarding the storyline)

So, for those of you adamantly opposed on the grounds of "BioWare should make RPGs!"... there's no need for BioWare to move away from RPGs for us to get ME games of different genres. Halo Wars wasn't developed by Bungie, now, was it? :)

Becuase having multiple studies develop the same franchise worked so well with CoD, there wasn't one that was seen as the real thing and another that was seen as the cheap knock off....

And really, Halo Wars?  That's where you want to go, Halo Wars?  Wow.....

I dunno. Most people on here refuse to acknowledge that ANY FPS' are quality games. There really isn't much of a case to be made for MW2 as an out and out bad game but people say it here all the time.
