Know what could make an interesting FPS spinoff?
Archangel on Omega. Nuff said.
Boss fight: Garm
1) Ambush target
2) Empty clip
3) Run away
Win!

As for the FPS part, switchable wouldn't be too bad, as long as I can switch back to TP to admire my squad as they run through places while I play the theme from "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly" in the background.

Sure glad you wouldn't be project lead.
I again point to FEAR, because it happens to be my favorite FPS. There were few boss fights and those that did happen were against power armor, so it was believable that it would take that much punishment to put one down. The enemies were smart, even on lower difficulties, and had a surprising ability to outflank you. Beyond the upgrades, things like ammo and health packs were usually put in places someone might conceivably put them. Add to all that an engrossing story and an atmosphere so thick you could cut it with a knife.
Contrast that with how to make a mindless shooter: both expansions for FEAR, made by a different studio. They "improved AI" by making enemies need more bullets to put down and made them react less to getting hit, coupled with a tendency to rush your position. they also decided that what the series needed was to put guns and health in crates and add bosses. On the extreme end, the final boss of Perseus Mandate, one of the few enemies not wearing a helmet, literally required 3-400 rounds to the face with a minigun to put down. Storywise, they completely missed the point and filled it with cheap jump scares. When one of the coolest supposrting characters from the first game dies, and the player's first reaction is to laugh at how ludicrous it was, yu failed.
So, While I won't deny that some shooters are as mindless as people claim them to be, there are ways to make an intelligent shooter. I think BW could pull it off.

RPG/TPS ---> TPS/RPG ---> TPS ---> FPS

FPS games require no skill, no strategy (well, some degree it does), its mostly twitchy fingers.masseffectfan00 wrote...
After ME3 Bioware needs to make future ME games as FPS with online. America's and the rest of the world's future would be worse off because young kids will be addicted to the game and cant concentrate on school but it would be worth it.
Bioware doesn't make games like that, they make games with story, with interaction, with.....well, fun.
Call of Duty like games have no place at Bioware.

I dare you to play Operation Flashpoint, Armed Assault, or Armed Assault 2.
There are no other games in existence which require more skill.
Perhaps some of the older hardcore flight sims like Falcon 4.0 or something nut seriously, go play ArmA2 and then post that.

Mass Effect may soon be adding multiplayer gameplay.
A new job listing posted on Electronic Arts' website suggests the franchise will be adding a multiplayer component sometime in the future. The listing calls for someone to take Mass Effect's "existing single player user experiences and make them multiplayer safe."
It should be noted this listing is for BioWare's studio in Montreal, which offered development support for Mass Effect 2. The franchise is primarily developed in Edmonton.
It's possible this could be a multiplayer expansion for Mass Effect 2, or an additional component for Mass Effect 3.
what's next ? Getting rid of the Story, RPG elements and turn it into a friggin FPS??
EDIT: here's the link to the article

Doesn't have to be bad as long as they keep it simple. A story co-op (2 guys playing as Shepard's squadmates. Either existing ones or their Shepards are subtly turned into squadmates with experience going to their Shepards' a la Fable2) and some pinnacle station style versus matches wouldn't have to detract from the game.
I hope that's the case with ME3 if it means ME3. The series is bound to derail or end after that and I don't really mind what happens. Just finish the trilogy with style

This news actually came out months ago, so they're probably already working on it. Hopefully they do something where its you and other people versus a computer AI. Maybe an endless arena mode (**** Zombies, Gear of War Horde mode to name a few), or a few objective ones where you gotta do this, this and this. It could work if they did that, but of course the money maker is in team deathmatch. I read something about Dead Space 2 having a multiplayer mode where its co-operative against AI enemies. Hopefully (if its real) it'll be real popular and show EA that a game doesn't need to be a fragfest to have good multiplayer

Hey, a lot of Bioware's ideas in the past, written on paper, seem kinda stupid. but they always pull them off amazingly. I have faith that if BW did it their way, it could be a great add-on to the game that won't detract anything from the real single-player mode. Unfortunatly, I have absolutly no faith in EA...

Also, I do believe that they have some multi-player experience with Baulder's Gate, so at least they're not going in blind and wasting more time on it
And good idea! They should make it have one of those level up systems like in the other games like CoD, Halo, etc, but you can only level up through single-player
Like half the people who would get ME3 just cuz of multi-player would give up twenty minutes into the game because "its boring. I mean, oh my god, when do I get to noob-tube and camp in corners?". Thats a lot of the reason people who bought ME2 but never played ME1 sold it

Sucks mostly because of design choices. And it's better than telling friends to get out cause I'm playing Mass Effect
If they're hiring extra people to do it I don't think it has much impact. Unless Bioware goes lazy and decides multiplayer is the selling point. But if they're thinking that everything is lost already

Sure, you'd have to keep it separate from the Reaper plot and Shepard's story, but the ME universe has the potential to bring a unique feel to an FPS game (alright, maybe not entirely unique but at least relatively standout). The RPG games have already established dozens of potential enemies, and i think a squad based FPS would be a lot of fun.
I'd probably use Republic Commando as my inspiration, that had tight squad mechanics, a well told narrative and most importantly, a lot of character - it was a hell of a lot of fun to play. And for all the people who don't like FPSs, well you wouldn't have to play it would you? It wouldn't have anything to do with Shepard.
The ME1 weapon system would make for a very different take on the FPS, and with optional weapon mods you could pick before the start of each mission, you'd get a more tactical feel.
There's no reason ME as a franchise has to remain RPG (it already has books and comics, themselves a drastically different story telling medium), a side story about some Alliance marines or a mixed species unit would has a lot of potential, especially when you throw in mass effect tech.
And for all those saying, 'if you want FPS go play COD', well fair enough. But what if I want the intensity and fun of an FPS in the Mass Effect universe. Not gonna get that playing COD, am I? Hell it wouldn't even have to be made by Bioware, so long as they had some input into the story and the universe was respected.
tl;dr - Sure, I'd love one. So long as it had nothing to do with Shepard.

this is why i say most ( not all) shooter fans buy mass effect because they expect it to be just a shooter in space when in fact its also rpg. headhunter even for a spinoff game fans including myself will be pissed if it ended up fps i mean look at the shooter changes to me2 alot of people hated it wile i liked it and why is fps so important to a big number of shooter fans and without refering to old games how would it work? its easy to say put it in but seriously though you tell us how it can work by following biowares route wich means developing there own system
