The answer to black Hawke is no. I believe we'll be pretty much set with Hawke's appearance because Bioware is going with less customization overall and the story is about a set character. We aren't creating a new character.

Aside from this story reason, there aren't any black people because Bioware felt like black people don't belong in the game.

As for the skin-tones in DA, I think I was able to make my character look black for the most part.

I made a black mage in my last playthrough but it looked really weird, especially in cutscenes. I also remember seeing a black elf during the dalish quest but she looked more purple then anything.

"I just hope people don't assume BW is racist or anything" I don't think anyone thinks that.

" I think they probably intended all skin colours" They said in interview that they wanted people to play a white character because it fits with lore for that country. They left certain skin outs on purpose. And they shouldn't add darker skins unless there is a purpose.

No need to get snappy dear.

And from actual quotes on here by devs, they did intend all skin colours. <_<

I'm actually doing a replay of DAO now, and there is a lot more variance in skin tone for NPCs than I originally remembered, it's just that the skin tones are limited to the ones we see in the character creator. There were at least two very dark skinned elves in the Dalish Elf origin, for instance, it's just that the game's version of "very dark skinned" doesn't look that dark in game.

You have exactly as much creative freedom for your character in DA2 as you did in DA:O, except that you cannot select the race.  DA:O just offered six premade characters instead of one.

Rivain might be based on Islamic Granada which was the Emirate left over from Moorish Iberia when the Moors were pushed out of Spain and into North Africa.

sry I didn't mean to sound rude and I haven't seen those quotes, but I have seen a pre release interview saying they wanted to give everyone the chance to play a European this time around.

I thought thedas was made up and not real.

Everything in this thread suggests otherwise.

I would like to know that if we do chose a darker or different skin tone for hawke will the models of the characters that were supposed to be related to hawke follow suit? eg. you can make a dark skinned human noble but your parents were still white,

Rivain?

Rivain is Spain.

The Moors occupied half of Spain during the Middle Ages, which is why it would be a perfect choice.

I seriously doubt it.  It could be done.  You'd have to say that all family members get a skin tone within a range of, say +2 or -2 from Hawke, and that they get hair colors within a range of +2 or -2 of Hawke, but since one of Hawke's family is being used in marketing, they probably want to preserve her look.

Well in terms of Hawke's parents, Bioware could just as easily leave it up to the player's imagination. Maybe the mother cheated on the father? Maybe Hawke was adopted? Maybe Hawke inherited genes from his grandparents.

Rivain is the equivalent of Spain? That's an odd choice for a parallel...the Qunari don't fully strike me as Muslims, maybe in slight aspects but their culture seems to have alot of east asian influence too.

Rivain isn't Spain.  Antiva is Spain.  Rivain is indeed where the black folk live.  DG said so.  :P

I think there should be an ad that explains the versatility. It would be more effective than cinematic ads imho.

You are aware that Dragon age's Thedas is based "Loosely" of of medieval Europe. I don't think Europe ever had elves or dwarves running around.Posted Image

some people think they're bigger than white ones, I don't believe them.
