That was a decent compromise between looking like wax, and being white

Here is my problem: If Hawke is supposed to be light skinned and such and I cannot customize my character and it is HIS story, then I have no problem with this and would love to play as him and play through his experience.
But in a role playing game where you can make you own character, people tend to gravitate towards making a character that looks like them usually at first. When I played Neverwinter nights 2 I played a Darkskinned human Blackguard, then a paladin. My next 5 play-throughs were of other races. I got my fix out of the way of making a character like myself and playing through the game.
Same things with games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion/Morrowind (Albeit my Redguards in oblivion were at least hybrid warrior/mages and were more like Trayvond the Redguard). The issue that some people have is just that. When you can make your own character yet are limited to a certain look that cannot achieve what the person that wants to play the role looks like.
When I was growing up, I never once wished Chrono or Magus to be black. But when I played Everquest my first character was a Erudite Shadowknight. If there is no customization to hawks, fine. But if there is customization then I will be a bit sad.
You should of saw my face when I made a human noble for the first time, major face-palm from me. To justify this I had to go with a story about "being an orphan" and some how the noble family took me in for whatever reason.
I wish the human warrior/rogue could have had another starting point other than noble. That would of solved a lot of problems, at least for me.

Yeah he would have been a good choice too. But Denzel is the ultimate badass.

I am pretty sure african americans have many tones.
Some tones were indeed in the CC.
I'd disagree...I can't remember who, but someone aptly described them as really bad sunburns. They don't look right.
Maybe my monitor is off... but the darker skin tones (besides Zevran's) in DA all looked purple to me. It looked especially bad paired with the bright red hair. For some reason the designers gave lots of background NPCs that purple skin and bright red-orange hair. I'm guessing the colors are coming through oddly on my screen because I haven't seen the "purple" skin commented on by anyone else.
Edit:

I made a black mage in my last playthrough but it looked really weird, especially in cutscenes. I also remember seeing a black elf during the dalish quest but she looked more purple then anything.

I also want better black skintones in the game, the darkest I could get was like, purple. WTF. Good things there are mods that help, but even then darker tints didn't apply well over the face textures.
Nevermind, I see others have commented on the purpleness now. So it's not just me.

And look here is the moron... youve been trolling this thread with half-backed racial jabs... and your profile... your not clever or funny...just a moron.
Racially conscious people that slur other races are fear filled people with lingering insecurities about their own racial identity. Their attacks are based on their own struggles and feelings of racial inferiority. Pathetic
As for op, I agree why shouldnt their be an option to play as a black player. It seems logical. This world isnt relegated only to whites, so why should the fantasy world be so?

Seriously, though, of course black skin should be an option unless there's an amazing narrative reason why Hawke shouldn't have black skin. And I can't imagine what reason would be good enough, personally.

There is a newer and better thread just on page two. I know the search funktion on this site ranges from bad to broken, but please start checking the date the last post was written before you reply to a thread or quote another poster.
