Does anyone have any idea why Jade Empire is in the 'Legacy Games' section whilst KotOR and NwN, which are older, are not?
Legacy?

My guess is: legacy games are pushing up daisies. Kotor is ongoing (through TOR) and so is NWN (through mods and NWN2).
Edit: Baldur's Gate is just too awesome to be buried, ever.

As I said when I wrote my requiem for Jade Empire. 'Legacy Games' is a mass grave for the forgotten that were not deemed important enought for proper burial. I have hope for years that JE (my favorite BioWare project) would be revisited but with this move I find it highly unlikely. Let's hope Obsidian might want to take a crack at it as I don't think EA in all its greed would allocate resources to what they deem unprofitable.

Bioware has said that JE has a very special place in all their hearts so I'm going to keep my hopes up. THis universe is still in its prime. Besides the fact that sonic was made the dark brotherhood is here is also weird. I'm not going expect it for pushing daisies. I'm just going to expect it for being not very busy.

I'm with caradoc and zx2781 on this. Sadly, I think this is proof positive that Jade Empire as a franchise is dead. I cherished this game while it lasted and lament that there will likely never be a proper sequel. My solace is the knowledge that Jade Empire, short as it was, still felt like a complete game and provided me with satisfactory closure.

Doesn't seem like there is much interest in this type of RPG. A Martial Arts RPG that is...
Jade Empire could be revisited and it certainly has a fan base such as us, but it's creators have to keep in mind what is more beneficial to them as well. I keep hoping they will come to a point where they will be able to do one anyway just because it holds a special place for them and have to worry less about what is marketable. But they are a business and as someone who owns their own business I can certainly understand why Jade Empire has ended up here.

I'm going to copy/paste one of my old posts from the now deceased JE forum:
"Just finished Assasin's Creed 2 and I couldn't stop thinking what Jade Empire 2 might have been with updated, state-of-the-art engine & graphics.
What's more, there are no guns (except for a very primitive pistol you get towards the end), no heavy plate armour, not
even spells. Yet that doesn't stop the game from being thoroughly enjoyable while also garnering a large fanbase and selling in large numbers.
It's funny in a way, considering the growing number of gamers (both inside and outside the Jade Empire circle) who dismiss theidea of (un)armed combat. I'm glad to see developers that are not shy about exploring settings and ideas normally not visited in games, too bad Bioware is no longer one of them.
And guess what, rumour has it that AC3 might take place in medieval Japan"
Now of course you might argue there are important differences between AC and JE (although I wouldn't give the JE universe for AC's renaissance Italy), but it's hard not to think of martial arts when you see Ezio dispatching his enemies.
What I'm trying to say is, if JE ended up in a mass grave is - in no small part - due to Bioware themselves. Lack of proper advertising (how many times you've heard "I can't believe I missed this game when it first came out"?), indiference (how many updates, patches, enhancements, extra missions/maps/charcters have you seen?) contributed substantially IMHO to JE's fate.
I don't believe martial arts as a genre is dead. It it certainly less appealing (to some) than machine guns or light sabers, but it still has potential.
If there is one tiny consolation, that is the fact that of all games dumped in the mass grave, JE seems to be the most missed...
