I think that companies are beginning to market more to females....however, unfortunately they only seem to market games like Sims, DS puzzle games, and exercise games like EA active and Wii fit. . Most of the time though when I hear about a good game it is not via marketing, but word of mouth. I first heard about DAO  from a commercial on the tv, and to honest (I hate to admit this) but when I saw the commercial I thought it looked like a stupid game and the commercial gave me a completely different impression of what the game actually was. Then some months later after the game was released I heard from firends how awesome it was and played it and fell in love with the game and hear I am on the forums bc I like DA so much.  I recommended it to one of my friends (another girl gamer) and now she is playing. Both of us have loved playing rpgs and the like since we were kids.  When I was in high school a guy friend told me that all girls suck at video games and can't be real gamers ....I then proceeded to kick his *** in SFII for an hour straight:DUnfortunately though, while I have a few  friends that are girls that  do love rpg games, the ones that don't like rpgs outnumber us.On showing a DAO to a friend that just plays mario games....she complained that the opening was too long and the game looked too hard and boring:crying:(such blasphemy). Most of my coworkers that are girls I was shocked to find also don't like to play rpgs. I think that we are growing in number though.  Especially  as the younger generation that grows up with these next gen consoles ages more, the girl rpg marker will grow as more intricate games become more popular and it is looked at as less "nerdy".  Myself, I am a girl gamer, always have been, and proud to be one. I look forward to more female marketing of RPGS and action games in the future:wub:

"Whoa, nice graphics."

You mean you've never seen the ancient game commercials?

You missed out.

I've lived in many places, and I have never been asked about any kind of survey.

So?

So, if I was not asked, my neighborhood was not beed asked also, so they can't be accurate.

   You really sincerely think this?

Word of mouth is often more effective than video advertisement. Mountain Dew for example was not heavily advertised, simply people drinking it made it popular. I got into video games by seeing others play it when I was a kid not through trailers. I'd never even seen a video game advertisement on T.V till last Christmas.

You don't remember "Do the Dew"

Yes, I do. I meant at first.  Now they are everywhere.

I believe he does. I'm only sure because I didn't conduct a survey to find out.

There is a big female community on these bioware forums. However, i am 100% sure that if they remove the romance/li subplots more than half of it will leave asap.

Um, okay.  I don't guess I can also like Bioware games for their plot or morality decisions or awesome characters. And that lots of guys also wouldn't be pissed if Morrigan and Tali and Bastila disappeared.

Yeah the commercials regarding to DA were tragic.

It did a number of things

A)  DIdn't properly market to the correct audience it was targeting
B)  Was misleading
C)  Because it was misleading it did not accomplish expanding a potential market  by bringing the product to the ears of consumers

An Advertisement on TV can just be a release date and a logo.  It raises awareness.  However it should not contradict what the actual product is.

There is one thing that is a wrong cliche that I have seen in foreign advetisements.  They will be advertising something like I dunno, for the sake of argument lets say towels.  But instead of Towels the ads will go "HERE ******".  That ends up being ineffective because A) You do not know what the product is and B) it has nothing to do with your target audience

The sacred ashes line of advertisements were pretty much "HERE ******" metaphorically in the graphic and asthetic sense.  Sure the artwork and artstyle was represented, it had darkspawn, dragons and the voices of some of the characters.  But it was in contrary to the actual product.

I recall back in the day playing Command and Conquer on the N64, but not playing Starcraft.  I played that on the PC.

However I then heard "RTS's on consoles?  Stupid never work, need mouse" and thinking wow i never had problems with C&C.

Then a couple years ago I played C&C on the Computer and realized why I didn't ahve any problems on the N64.  It was because the game is really, really slow.

I shudder at the thought of playing Starcraft 64, but it did have a couple new maps so that has me curious.

And hey, the commercial has Saddam Hussein in it, so you know its good.

It's evident from going into Gamestop.  Their entire Nintendo wall is filled with games aimed at girls/women.

COOKING MAMA.
CLEANING MAMA.
BABYSITTING MAMA.

I think all of those exist. I remember there's one where you get a baby and wrap it around your wiimote and it essentially becomes your baby. I tried it at the Gamestop store and I just kept shaking the baby to see what the game would say.

I got kicked out of the store.

You know what though? The person I know who spends the most by far at Gamestop is my sister, who buys all those crappy games (and plays Farmville).
