Actually it's impossible to tell the gender from the armor and the warrior's back isn't turned. He/she is facing you and is wearing a helmet covering their face. You really have no idea what the warrior is based just at looking at him (except that he/she isn't a mage. or at least not a non arcane warrior) and it might be a dwarf or elf for all we know.

No, but telling me that one person doesn't want to play a game because the protagonist is female does not negate what I said about not everyone having to be able to play as their own gender to want to play a game.jln.francisco wrote...

WRONG! Actually capitalism is competition based and success is determined by "Dollar Votes". Therefore the companies who cater to the consumer will down right win. The market is flooded with crappy RPGs making DA:O's success that much greater.

Doesn't stop Kikaimegami from blasting the Cyberdemon back to hell.

That however, is an assumption based on their own biases and expectations. Kinda like the Metroid Samus thing.

I agree not everyone always plays their own gender. But the question is how do most people feel about playing as another gender, and because the option is there wouldn't you sell more by advertising it?

I can't say I agree. There more suitables games for people that just want to play a different gender. I can't talk for the girls on the forum, but I'm almost sure most of them don't played Dragon Age just because they could play as a girl.
Just my opinion.

I know. I just happen to like the style both games used in their box art especially Fallout 3.
How would you get the point across that you can play as either gender across in box art? The split face idea would get real old real quick (not that box art is a shining example of creativity). Maybe something where you see multiple characters but never the main one?

I turned down Red Dead, Arhkam Asylum and Uncharted 2 for that very reason. They looked like amazing games when I saw others play, but I can't get into an RPG where I am forced to play as a male and if I am not enjoying myself why spend the money or the time.

Bioware is advertising it by virtue of saying that the option exists in things like interviews. I gather that they simply want an iconic Hawke, as they did with the Warden in DA.tpryan01 wrote...

Does that take into account the amount of mothers purchasing games for their children?
