your analogy is flawed.

you invested the money in making the grape juice, made no effort to let people know you had it then assumed nobody must have wanted grape juice or that your customers weren't psychic enough to know to ask about the grape juice so it is there fault you lost money.

I think you made my case for me

For someone who complains about people putting words into your mouth you seem to like to practice the same.

What's so wrong with doing a little research on a game before you buy it? If I were female I wouldn't go to a game store, pick up a game, and instantly dismiss it because I don't see a female on the cover. Read the back of the game and if it doesn't say you can play as a female and you're still interested in the game ask a clerk.

Besides, if female gamers aren't smart enough to do whats listed above, what makes you think they will dig deep enough to see trailers/screenshots featuring Female Hawke? And didn't Bioware state we'd see female Hawke eventually anyway? Sorry, I'm not a female so maybe I don't understand the frustration over not seeing a female version yet but I don't see what the big ****ing deal is.

Hmmm why would someone think that they could only play as a fixed male protagonist?

Nothing there says you cannot play as a female.

? They are extremely similar and it is pretty common knowledge the main character of AC2 is fixed.

Are we nto talking about people who do not have common knoledge of games?Or something?

To be clear, you are saying there is no point in advertising because people who want whatever it is will find it on their own. Correct?

No point of going over all the little options such as you can play as male or female.
A lemoade stand wont advertise get your cups in pink or blue.

Actually service (including scenery, silverware, options in tables ect) is something restaurants love to advertise. Because they know how varied people's tastes are and see the number of potential customers it'd bring.

read the thread.

Funny thing is, all these people posting and getting the completely wrong impression of what's being talked about from glancing at the title alone more or less prove my point about first impressions.

Besides no one decides to eat at a restraunt or not because there silverware is not made of pure gold or silver.

THe OP seems to think it stops people altogether if they cannot play as a female.

OK.  Now that you've made this point, you can stop wasting your time here and post in threads that you think are more productive.

Sorry, what is the issue here? DA2 marketing not appealing to women? Women not knowing they are able to play females in games like ME2 and DA because of lack of female advertising, right?

I would go back and read this 30 page thread but its not costing me $60.

Some people will. Some women will not play this game, because they think they can't make a female character.

Just like if all the advertisements featured female Hawke a depressingly large number of posters would make threads about how they don't want to "have to play as a chick."

And, for the record, no it is not "the woman's fault" for not doing more research. If she sees a trailer featuring male Hawke it is a perfectly reasonable assumption that this game, like countless ones before it, doesn't feature the option of creating a female character and that generic "brown hair +stubble/beard" is the only option.

I think you are right people aren't even reading the title they see the word "female" and immediately go into defensive mode. I really don't understand why?

THe answer is....to put female companions on the cover...to peak their interest without wasting resources advertising a fem hawke.

and again he twisting my words

It will cause a large number of people to lose interest some men, mostly women.

It will not cause everyone to lose interest.

I would love for BioWare to pull a stunt like that. Make it so that you have to play a female role. It'd take like 10 seconds for my fellow sex to start complaining and perhaps it's simply my own bias but I think we'd be a lot less civil about it.

The solution is to advertise both Hawkes, then. Which they said they would do. I don't wheter they meant trailers for Female Hawke and male Hawke but they've said we'll see her. It's too early to say what will and what will not happen.

Nah if they forced female only it would result in complaints from real fans but most men turn away.
IF they only advertsied as such men would look into it.:D

What's worse is if they did put a female companion on the cover it would probably end up being the Morrigan type in her loose and revealing robes which is an entire other can of worms. :D

Have you read the back of the DAO or ME? It says nothing about playing as a female. As for asking a clerk...well you'd be at the mercy of their knowledge or lack there of.  I'm not sure how versed some of the workers at Target/Walmart are at the games they sale.

No I do not believe that they would act in such a way and it is by no means reasonable.
