You do realize that's essentially a series and that female protagonists aren't nearly as common as male ones, right?

I hope to never see a day where you can only play as a woman...end of video games...women will not stay that interested without the support of men.

What? Image IPB You've got to be joking... Image IPB

Who will convert more women to play?
easy enough to get a guy to try a game...hard as hell to get a woman to.

Ha! I'm still trying to get my husband to play DAO.

RPG = nerd in mens minds...did you marry a nerd?

I did, the bookish kind. He does however play FIFA to unwind.

Please, I'd rather have a discussion without people trying to argue that I'm sexist.

It does? No one bothered to get me that memo.

Your not catching on to the trends.

Guess not, forgive me I was always just the dumb jock (since we are throwing out stereotypes)

If the option of being either of the genders makes your interest in the game skyrocket and not the storyline, world or characters then I find the priorities of yours a little odd.

you didn't read my post did you? I will requote it here since you failed to do so.

The female option and the rich interaction. Neither was evident to me from the ads I had been exposed to

this was the sole reason I started playing DA:O --> http://www.comicsalliance.com/2010/03/31/why-i-love-dragon-age-by-colleen-coover

before that I thought it was like other male only rpgs

no I wasn't interested before I read the article ergo I didn't research it.

when I read that article I became interested

That it took half a year and a random blog post to get me interested means I didn't pick up on what the game was about from the advertising before I played it

To bring up another example.
If you are going to an electronic store to purchase a TV and find two or three similarly priced. Wouldn't you look at the options of each before deciding? If the manufacturer doesn't list anything, they would in all likely hood lose a sale.

Actually no I wouldn't. In this day and age I'd go online, find out everything the t.v. had to offer and read reviews.

Wow. Arrtis you've got some weird ideas about male AND female gamers. No, not even gamers. People in general.

I did read it, yet you seem to be suggesting that the game was a male RPG off your baseless accusation and first prejudices meaning you were never interested in the game based off what was advertised and . Any research into the game would've yielded the information that you had desired.

I'll take back my assumption about Halo Reach, I'd never have thought you could play a female character in the campaign but I didn't care about the game itself before finding out. Why would the option suddenly interest me or my female friends if they didn't care about the game beforehand either?

TV's aren't cheap, if I'm going to spend my hard earned money on it, I'm going to do a little research on my own. Experience in life has taught me that a little time spent learning about something saves me a bunch of heartache, money and headaches later on.

It's the same 5 brands at Best Buy/Target/Walmart. They are priced about the same across the board unless it's Black Friday. It's not going to make you toast or grant you wishes.  It's not going to blow up in 2 months.

Only being able to play as a woman seems to matter to her.
I imagine she thinks most women think this way.

But you don't get the instant gratification of rolling out to the car.  Or having to call your friend with the pick up because it's too huge to put in your car.

Oh I see.

You didn't care about Thedas, epic plot, CRPG elements, the advertised characters, the multiple origins (that advertised multiple genders, fyi) and dark setting.

Why would Bioware advertise for people who don't care about their game?

So is that because they didn't show a female option, or that the gameplay was advertised in a way that didn't appeal to you (more actiony than it really was=Sacred Ashes trailer)? Or was it both? Image IPB

Hmm tpryan01 were you the one who said you didn't play Red Dead Redemption and a bunch of other games because you can't play as a female? I think you're doing yourself a disservice if you value story and gameplay. There are lots of excellent games with a fixed protagonist.
