I have a question OP. If YOU already know you can play a female and are going to buy the game then why do you care if other women know or not? I'm probably going to buy it but I don't give a damn if anyone else buys it or not. If they do then all the better for bioware but it doesn't make any difference to me at all.

I haven't read the whole thread, and I'm 99% positive someone has said
this already, but to add my voice to the crowd - I'm female, and I like
the same things men do. I also like the same things women do. I'm not
entirely sure stating there should be different marketing to appeal to
male and female players is at all helpful, and only maintains the
illusion that women like nothing but pink fluffy bunnies and flowers,
and men like nothing but cars and violent sports. If I only played
games that had a female lead I'd have a far smaller gaming library than
I currently do. As it is, I can think of only one occasion where
I opted to play as a female character first in a game that offered me
the choice (Fable II) - every other game where that choice is present
I've played as a male character first, DAO included. In fact, in ME my
canon Shep is male.
So a little less with the sweeping generalisations.
Second verse same as the first....
*Yes we know. But we are trying to discuss marketing to
new players...
specificaly females.
*The ability of playing as a female character in game is an
incentive. It provides additional gameplay since the experience is diffierent.
*Yes, you call always research the game online, but if you are browsing in a store there is no information regarding full character customization on the back (or front) of the DAO box.
*Yes we know Lady Hawke will be revealed but we do not know if there will be any press coverage.
