I have answered this already several times as well

It took me 3 years to find out that ME was not only the game portrayed in the posters, cover art anf tv ads. It was amazing! I loved that game. I could have missed it if I hadn't stumbled upon a random article 3 years after ME that talked about dragon age (which I also missed for 6 months)

I had almost missed a great thing and I would like other women not to miss it as well.

You say stuff like this just to ****** people off, right? You're one of those people who just likes to stir up the sh!t. For attention. Because even negative attention is still attention.

I get it. Your mommy loved your sister more than she loved you. It all makes sense, now.

OMG she guessed right.I have a sister! She must  be a psychic.
Back on topic women are the minority for this game correcT?
It makes sense to spend less money on targetting them.

No matter what happens, DONT UPSET e girls! there will always be a tribe of white knights to defend them.

Since the topic had mentioned WoW and we are talking about marketing for RPGs, I thought this was a good read.

WoW Gender-Bending
23% of male players (N = 939) listed a character of the opposite gender as their most enjoyable character compared with 3% of female players (N = 184). In WoW, men are about 7-8 times as likely to gender-bend than women.

Given a hypothetical pool of 1000 players:
840 would be male players
160 would be female players

Of the 840 male players:
193 would be playing a female character
647 would be playing a male character

Of the 160 female players:
5 would be playing a male character
155 would be playing a female character

Thus, altogether there are 348 female characters of which 193 (55%) would be played by a male player.
And there are 652 male characters of which 5 (

There have been a number of games (though not WRPG's that I can think of) with female protagonists--the Tomb Raider Series, the No One Lives Forever series, and most adventure games in recent years.  So being female only doesn't seem to prevent games from appealing to men (especially if the women are scantily clad and big-breasted).  Personally, I think Hawke is pretty hunkalicious, so I don't see why he any a priori reason why he wouldn't appeal to women.  For some women (and some men), the ability to play women is important, but it seems crazy to me that anyone would assume they couldn't just because the figure in the trailer is a man.  The trailer gives very little information of any kind about gameplay.

well video games in general do not appeal to females.

I think Bioware should spend more money on the actual game than marketing

I'd hate to pay for scrounged up DLC made by Bioware because they are short of funds

That's fascinating.  I would never have guessed that there would be such a big difference between men and women in that respect.  I knew lots of men played female characters, at least occasionally, and would have assumed that it was not rare for women to play male characters.

Hmmm why would someone think that they could only play as a fixed male protagonist?

video games appeal to females as much as make up and hair removal appeal to me. Not so much, but other gay guys might be interested

I mentioned DLC, because that's what happens when you lack funds, you recycle crap to sell for $3-4 each to bring you back up

Do you also assume that you're only allowed to use one kind of weapon and wear one kind of armor?  I didn't know Assassin's creed required you to play a male and would not have assumed that based on the advertising campaign--if I want to learn about the game, I read a description of its features, I don't just look at the cover of the box.

I like that one. I guess we could only play as a big monster or a girl in purple. Yup no chance to play as a guy, elf, or dwarf in this one...

This has probably already been said multiple times, but women make up 30-40 percent of gamers. You're just basing your assumption on tired old gender stereotypes. Look how many women post on this forum!

I'll never understand why so many of you guys are so *bothered* by the mere suggestion that we get to see some proof of Lady Hawke's existence. We like playing as a female, so while a lot of you are getting pumped up on the concept art and cinematic trailer, we're just waiting for a glimpse at the character we could be playing.

This is not always the case, particularly with males.  There are males out there who play as females because they prefer the look of the female avatars :P but there are also those who play because they wish to role-play a female character.  As someone who has done the latter for 3 years quite successfully in EVE  I did find the male attention rather annoying at times in public channels, but provided I reacted in ways that didn't encourage it it generally died off.  When I eventually left and told my corp (read guild) most people hadn't realised and were surprised, so clearly I had done a fairly good job of it and my experiences were, if not typical, then at least within the bounds of those that real females may have received.  There were also real females playing in the corp and there was no harassment there that I saw.  Everyone was treated with respect.

I guess that I was lucky that in Eve the playerbase has a much higher average age (mid thirties I believe) that WoW (somewhere in the twenties I think, dragged down by a large number of teenage players) and so people's behaviour was more mature than one would expect.

Clearly WoW is not such a pleasant place to play if you are a girl if your assertions are correct there.

Let's forward past this. I bring up 'You won't looking at a game unless blahblahblah.'  You say 'Yes well do we really want blahblahblah.' I respond with 'That's missing blahblahblah.' And finally you respond with a similar statement to the one I've quoted. Lather, rinse, repeat.

There. Manged to pre empt an entire 6 more pages of pedantry and frustration and summarize the thread up to this point. :wizard:

and by "gamers" do you mean people who play guitar hero, Sims, Dragon age on easy mode? (you gotta be kidding me if you think this is a mature, dark RPG) or as a nelf in WoW? I don't consider those gamers.

and we're not bothered at all, we are just kinda annoyed that video game companies have to conform to women's wishes, and hardcore content like nudity and violence are eithered heavily toned down or removed to appeal to a larger fanbase.

Well, I'm not bothered by it, but keep in mind that the character you will actually be playing could look like almost anyone.  His/her appearance will be customizable, much like Shepherd in ME.

well there is one exception. All males play female blood elves, because male blood elves look terrible and are a joke to the horde.

and the very sound of a girl's voice on ventrilo is more than enough to provoke a nerd rush

So many assumptions in your post.  Nudity has always been a sticky issue in Western video games.  You can thank the media and government officials who love to attack video games.  And how has violence been toned down?  I guess chopping off heads with blood gushing out is tame.
