*sigh*

A male oriented commercial will attract more potentia gamers than a female centered one ever will

thems the facts

Show me the numbers please that proves your point. They are facts right? Then show me the facts.

female centered games have always had less sales (with a couple of exceptions) than male centered games

you can look at any website that has those figures, hell google will pull up a bunch

I can point out that female-centered game tend to be games like Cooking Mama or Hello Kitty Island Adventure and are for young girls.

As many men like to point out, women love The Sims, and it's the fourth most successful franchise in gaming. So, in both cases, either you don't have an accurate way to tell because they don't sell games catering to female adults, or you include the Sims and render your own point invalid because it does so well. The other three--Pokemon, Tetris and Mario--are gender neutral.

sorry, I wasnt clear and that was a fault on my part

by centered I meant the main character is male/female

Male...and female? Male or female? Because, I just mentioned Pokemon. And BioWare does pretty damn well.

bah once again not clear....sorry I am very tired atm :(

I meant games where the main character is male or male centered (like halo) tend to be more generally successful than games where the main character is female or female centered (like tomb raider)

when you look at all games from 2005-2010 like the article does of COURSE female playable characters will be near male playable character

but most of the games featuring female playable characters are not as successful as games featuring male playable characters

Here's a good way to prove this, name me a couple of games where the main character is female and the game was successful, we'll accept tomb raider as a given so no need to list it

I would really like to see more female based marketing campaigns in games like DA and ME. Jennifer Hale does a really great job, voice acting commander Shepard ( better than Meer ) I think. I would have no problem with it in any way, I would prefer it.

Tomb Raider does better than Halo. So...yeah.

Tomb Raider does better than Halo.

aside from the fact tomb raider has ten games to draw sales off of compared to four for halo....then you're right

but we must also forget that the more recent tomb raider games have been lackluster in sales to accept Tomb Raider > Halo

Bayonetta = appeals to men on so many levels with the ****ty main character (wtf? I thought you women didnt want to be portrayed that way)

Bloodrayne - see above

Oni - forgettable

Samus is your only valid one Im afraid : /

plus males have Master Chief, Marcus from gears, Kratos, and many more memorable characters

At best you could say that games featuring organized online play, thus more likely to spawn a large and stable following, just happen to have male protagonists.

To compare Halo's success to that of Tomb Raider's and attribute the outcome to the gender of the lead character is asinine.

The gameplay of halo has made alot of fans, and its probably why its doing so well. My guess is that alot of the marketing around halo is based on its popular online matches too. Some games are just more suitable for people who likes to stuck grunts...and thats alot of people;)

No Im pretty sure master chief being male had a big impact with it's success, perhaps not as great as the appeal of online play but by no means does the main character being male have no impact

I never said that it had no impact; I'm sure all of the teenage boys fawning over the game wouldn't have enjoyed playing a girl as much as the "badass" or "totally cool, bro" shallow character of Master Chief on which they can project their own failings as men.

But it is entirely uninformed of you to say that games with male leads are more successful than games with female leads without taking into account other factors, among them but not limited to the quality of each game as a whole.

Say it with me: "correlation does not imply causation."

I fail to see how wanting to play Halo because of chief = projecting your failings as a man

And yet male centered games still generally outsell female centered games

why do I even try? Im betting most of you see me as some sexist pig or something like that Posted Image

It has nothing to do with sexism; I belligerently took a feminism course and disagreed with the entire curriculum. It has everything to do with logic and your failure to grasp it.

There are simply too many factors involved in the success of a game to attribute said success to any one.

Case in point: World of Warcraft is one of the most successful games of all time. To say that this is so because the player can have a choice of two genders and ten races is obviously false. The success of World of Warcraft is based upon the gameplay, accessibility, community, and a host of other categories.

but Im not saying male centered games sell more than female centered ones BECAUSE the main character is male. Im just saying that they DO sell more than female ones, it could be for any reason but it still stands

What is the point of bringing that up if you don't intend on making the implication? To simply state some correlation is pointless.

Im just saying if the trend in NA seems to be that male centered games sell more than female centered games, doesnt matter the reason, then why stray from the trend?

sure they can release vids and/or pics on the site like they did with ME2 and origins, it

s just a female based commerical would not be the best choice for Bioware

That's just what you don't get: to acknowledge the trend (which isn't really a trend, as the numbers have been posted in this thread already disproving your claims) and to actively not "stray" from it is believing that there is a correlation. Or I guess it could be pure superstition, but either way it's flawed reasoning.
