Considering pretty much all consumable media of this group - games, TV, and movies - have advertising targeted at 18-35 males, the demographic that by far consumes the most of it - I think any attraction of new female gamers will be incidental.

Then can you be surprised that the audience is mostly male if you specifically exclude females from your marketing.

This is a story driven game not Halo. And you see from these posts and these boards that women who do happen to find it love it.

So why wouldn't you market to a potentially huge but under-tapped market? No matter how much you invest your ROI would be impressive.

I think it may be a waste of money to try to target a minority.

Anyone interested in the game will likely take a look at what it contains.

If you see it like that then you can make the marketing target a larger audience and still aquire new female players.

The game should introduce "cooking" and "tailoring" skills. If your character is a female you should get huge bonuses to those 2 skills.

Why is it that off topic comments get more attention from the mods than hate speech?

I doubt very much they could market the game where it would appeal to all female players even if they tried.

After all I doubt all female players are interested in RPGs.

Really?

Do you think the majority of males in this country are RPG fans?

Come on try a little harder.

good god, minority groups do love to make a noise and say how hard done by they are.
the truth is that most of dragon age user base is male i would say that is almost a certainty and females are a minority.
ANY company are obviously going to advertise to their core demographic the most.
stop crying about it and if you want the game, heres an idea BUY THE GAME, and stop whining how bioware are doing the female population wrong etc..
we don't start petitions and whine that we want the exact same paternity leave as women have maternity leave. i don't moan when cadburys or galaxy have an advert for chocolate and its a woman looking for her chocolate in the fridge and it isn't there because her friend has ate it so she goes under the bed where she hides another bar and gets in bed and eats it.
GALAXY YOU ARE SEXIST, why only advertise to women in that advert??? MEN LIKE CHOCOLATE TOOOOOOOO.
get my point????
stop whining and accept that it is what it is, men are the core audience for dragon age and most video games. females are not!!

Someone is  a little late to the party.

Have you even read the OP or are you just commenting on the title?

This has already been discussed quite thoroughly please read the last 50 pages.

We are attempting to have an adult conversation on one of the following topics

1. Will DA2's CURRENT campaign appeal to NEW female audiences.
2. Is there any potential for significant revenue in the female market
3. Does DA2 have an appeal for the female market

If you cannot contribute to that in a meaningful manner please start your own thread.

Not really.. Just look at how many people brought WoW... back in 2004 or 2006 even 2008

And these people are still around gaming.. and does where male.

You can also look at the numbers on War3 , KotoR ,Diablo 2,  Mass effect 1 and All the other famous RPG's

Althought there is one thing im not sure about and that's FInal fantasy as I know that there is alot of women into that aswell as men ,however which of these is the largest is not certain

Why do women insist on trying something that is lost aleardy..

It's not like men start going to female activties and "Claim" that it should be more manly..

did i read 50 pages of complete bullsh**, umm no, no i did not. i have better things to do, like going on to galaxy and cadburys official forums and telling them how sexist they are and how out of order it is for them not to advertise to men as much as they advertise to women.

come on people, are you really serious about this???

some people just love to moan and feel hard done by don't they...

*sigh*

Please express yourself a bit more enlightning..Smartass because I really have no idea why you would suggest that making any of these games more feminine would get them more customers...

You have said men don't demand feminine things be made more manly, correct? I have asked that you in all your infinite wisdom enlighten this truly ignorant soul of what it is to be feminine, how games are made to be more feminine and how the requests made would make the DA2 less manly. As I have said I am wholly ignorant of the ways of man and need a big strong specimen of male dominance to illuminate the dark.

No I SAID FEMALE activites.. read my post genius...and I never said that men dont want more women in their games.... That would be sucide.

What I meant is baically women who think they have a right to change the entire advertising..or game and make it more for their liking..

And now that I think about it bioware should make a Tailer like... WoW per say they included both a female and a male in action ( I also cant belive I never notice that..)

exactly. the implication is clear. men, silent resilient and ever willing to bear the brunt of social stigma and prejudice, are juxtaposed against women, loud, shrieking, always ungrateful and constantly demanding everything be made to fit their mold.

There would be no reason to bring it up otherwise. I would like for you to explain how games are made to be more feminine and how the demands made would DA2 less manly. It is a simple request and you opened the door for it.

They are attempting to start a hate war instead of talking intelligently.

This kind of thing is what has gotten a large number of threads on female gamers and female Hawke locked by moderators.

Please don't let them derail the conversation. There are about 20 pages of good solid conversation here with about 31 pages of fear and hate speak.

Let's not further dilute the conversation please.
