You have said men don't demand feminine things be made more manly, correct? I have asked that you in all your infinite wisdom enlighten this truly ignorant soul of what it is to be feminine, how games are made to be more feminine and how the requests made would make the DA2 less manly. As I have said I am wholly ignorant of the ways of man and need a big strong specimen of male dominance to illuminate the dark.

They are attempting to start a hate war instead of talking intelligently.

This kind of thing is what has gotten a large number of threads on female gamers and female Hawke locked by moderators.

Please don't let them derail the conversation. There are about 20 pages of good solid conversation here with about 31 pages of fear and hate speak.

Let's not further dilute the conversation please.

very well. I shall take my snark elsewhere.

Perhaps I am still annoyed about all the homophobia and stupidity I've been dealing with all night.

Guys, get on topic, and DO NOT quote trolls. If you must address them, type something like

"@ ______ " <-user name there followed by the message.

In the chance that a particular comment is incredibly offense, or might derail the thread, it makes removing such posts a great hassle.

When there is harassment, or trolls, PM me or another mod and we will deal with it.

As for a general note to all of us, if you find yourself in a heated debate, before you press the SEND button to reply, step away from the computer and come back in 5 min. and see how you feel

Back on topic now

i think it is great that women like yourself enjoy dragon age.
i just think you are delusional to think bioware should advertise to the minority group when most of the consumers of dragon age are probably male. look at the ratio on the forum alone, ALOT more male members then female.
its just the way it is with gaming at the moment.
like i said you moaning about how females are being excluded from advertising is just like me saying how unfair it is that males are excluded from chocolate adverts, and make up adverts. some guys like to wear make up (DEFINATELY NOT ME FOR THE RECORD LOL) but every make up advert is directed towards women.
so the point of this thread is ridiculous.
like i have said there are ALWAYS people who like to moan about how hard done by they are and how unfair the world is.

exactly. the implication is clear. men, silent resilient and ever willing to bear the brunt of social stigma and prejudice, are juxtaposed against women, loud, shrieking, always ungrateful and constantly demanding everything be made to fit their mold.

There would be no reason to bring it up otherwise. I would like for you to explain how games are made to be more feminine and how the demands made would DA2 less manly. It is a simple request and you opened the door for it.

I think he's revering to the "boobs" discusion and such, where lots of female are afrait that their female hawke will have melons for breasts as well as the many NPC (wich most proberly is the case, since armour decides the body mess).

But that's just my guess.

I don´t understand, why all grumble about the marketing, the femal gamer ..

I´m a femal gamer. That´s clear.

I like the trailer. They show us Hawke! That´s absolute a reason for woman to buy that game.

Besides, everyone love Diablo II. Nobody thought about a female version.

I´m looking forward Dragon Age 2! If there is something to grumble, i will do it, if i know, what.

And no breasts or beards or chesthair can keep me from doing this.

tez19,

You've thoroughly made your point, but generally when you consider a thread to "be pointless", that's a good indicator that you shouldn't post in that thread anymore. Let people have whatever discussions they choose to, no one is obligated to post in every thread, or participate in every hot debate

If bioware is to sell many copies they should not look to women.*from what I can tell from all these statistics being posted most women play online*

Their marketing will appeal to some women I am sure.

Most likely women who are interested in the story or action.

The point of advertising is to get new players.

No, that's not entirely correct. The point of advertising is to attract consumer attention.

Generally speaking, the bulk of advertising is catered to specific interest groups. You don't market a new line of Coco Chanel bags at the super bowl, you market beer. While this may seem a sweeping statement, it is more or less, however you percieve it, an example.

It is good to get new interest from other groups but there's always a special place for the core past consumer in most advertisements, hence the "metal" and "tough looking Hawke" in the trailer of DA2, not that all different from the DAO trailers. In any case, I am of the opinion that BioWare does well enough to write characters that are well rounded and appeal to anyone, regardless of their sex.

yes i agree, the statistics she posted kind of work against her comments.
@ the mod, fair enough but i think my post was saying the same thing as many other people in this thread have tried to say but not really got their point across.
if females want equality in a male dominated market, then let us males have the same equality in a female dominated market.
or is this the classic case of the petitioners want it all their way, not for things to work both ways and equally?

Wow Players 25-54 in 2008

Male 675,731

Further claims about female gamers without facts or studies to back them up will be considered hate speak and slander.

Both are explicitly against forum rules.

Please keep the conversation intelligent and informed and do not give in to those who are trying to turn this into a gender war.

This hands down one of the dumbest things that's been posted on this thread (and one of the more overtly sexist)

1)you obviously don't think it's great women enjoy dragon age because whenever they wish a voice for the series' advertising not be so exclusively catered to men, you tell them to shut up and sit down. This is inconsistent with someone wanting a new member to feel welcome in the group. This is behavior that clearlysays, I'll tolerate you but nothing more.

2)women are not the some tiny insignificant minority of gamers. Look around the site. Grab any of the pieces of statistics posted in this thread. Women are a sizable portion of the gaming market (and not just free to play flash games) and the stereotype of the nerd male gamer is more absurd today than it was when it was thought up.

3)You obviously haven't paid much attention to the forums as not only have many of the women who post here been following BioWare for ages now, many of the new comers often report almost missing this wonderful gem because they'd simply never heard of it.

4)No it isn't just 'the way gaming is at the moment.' Yes marketing campaigns are often aimed at male consumers but that bias in no way diminishes the very active and visible female gaming demographic. It's there and even if they weren't you can't fault a demographic for not being there when you've made no effort to reach out to them.

5)Make up is a product for women. (and stage performers who use their own special kind I think) There's really no way around that. They're sorta like tampons. Why would a guy need them?

The same cannot be said for video games. They are an electronic medium aimed at telling a story and providing the consumer with something to think about or a very joyful evening. They are not meant for men. They are meant for both sexes.

6)If nothing else this thread has brought to light a few of the more misogynistic members of this site. For that alone I'm grateful.

Otherwise again it will be considered slander
