How do we know it targets young males though?

Did you actually watch the trailer?

So fighting and violence does not appeal to female players?

The entire trailer is geared toward appealing to the imagined male drive for combat, action, high adventure and romance.

So women do not like combat, action, high adventure and romance???

I never knew that Hawke and the qunari were in a romantic relationship .
This should be posted in the "what do we know so far" thread!

oh yeah, that whole fight was just over the fact that hawke left the toilet seat up.

Way to shoot yourself in the foot. I would have enjoyed it more if you hadn't hit my foot in the process.

that is the archetype for stories generally aimed at a younger male audience. You're welcome to review any work of mythology you like to verify that. It is what it is.

edit: I also fail to see how it diminishes your point.

It appears then that Hawke overdid it a bit. I mean - come on, rip apart over a toilet seat? This guy's a maniac.

Awesome...;)

So I'm the only who saw a dashing young man steal a kiss from the mysterious woman at the docks? (the pirate chick)

Young women tend to enjoy high adventure and romance, too. Also, why would I want to review a work of mythology to verify that? Most mythology is geared towards universal appeal.

if I showed you an ad of a white family sitting down to dinner reciting a psalm would it be any less geared to a predominately white Christian family because some aspects of it could have broader appeals?

and off topic but, many Creation stories and the like were aimed at a larger audience. Stories of heroes like the Oddysey had a much more male audience in mind. And that's the archetype we've borrowed for modern stories about heroes.

The audience to which the ad was intended would not change by you showing it to me, no. But even though that is what you asked, I'm assuming that's not what you meant.

The ad would, however, have been less geared towards a white christian family if it had aspects with a broader appeal, than if all lacked those aspects.

Hero myths do not constitute all, or even most, mythology.

EDIT: Besides, suggesting that I peruse hero mythology to see that the elements of hero mythology appeals to a predominantly young male audience doesn't really make any sense.

That may not be a bad idea. While I do see your point and can appreciate your frustration in dealing with the overly obtuse on this forum, you really do need to put down your shovel... for your sake.

Lady Hawke just makes me think of Michelle Pfeiffer and Rutger Hauer. Maybe that's why they didn't use her in the trailer.

I don't think anyone is saying guys suck if they disagree, but sneering at someone who has a suggestion and calling them a whiner is hardly constructive. The point of a forum is to have a place where people voice their opinions.

Having a female character in a commercial probably won't make me more likely to buy a game. I buy Bioware games because I like the story content, and I enjoyed the replayability of DAO. I don't honestly know if more women would play just because they saw a female character. If it was being marketed towards women I think the romance aspect being played up would help....maybe the customization of characters...

Sims is the gateway drug for some women. I got my sister in law hooked on it even though she thought she hated video games.

The marketing doesn't irk me as much as the game content which is significantly more important, to me, than who they advertise on the box. If femHawke receives the same amount of choices as maleHawke or at least equal content, then the marketing isn't really that big of an issue. Marketing is never fair to begin with and BioWare is still a business and thus they must go with what might be most financially responsible for them to do.

However, I'm sure a few concept arts or even a brief trailer featuring femHawke couldn't hurt either. I just know the game will be great, that's something you can always count on.

Not all video games are defined by blood, guts, gore and violence. Some are defined by strategy, first-person shooting and racing as well. Video games is a broad category that includes simulation games, hence the Sims.

No.  "Lady Hawke" is not an official name or anything, it's more a fan name that has "stuck" here.  Although I don't doubt such an important figure in the setting will eventually be addressed as "Lord" or "Lady."

Why bother making this thread when their marketing will appeal to men and women?
