Umm, because that was the part that I felt most interested in commenting on?

The statement is actually true for all genders, not just women. Shooters are somewhat tricky for people new to gaming to get their heads around, between having to keep track of multiple enemies, ammo, when to reload, where to take cover, etc.
I don't want to belabor the point, but the full quote was:
While I'd agree that there's not a whole lot of chicks into shooters and RTS games (I go to lan parties. I'm usually the only lady =\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ ), I'd say it's really different for RPGs because the genre doesn't really require a whole lot of skill to get into--it's more about the story.
While I don't think it was intended, this statement kind of implied, to me, that women need games to be "easier" or they won't get into them. I only pointed this out because I don't think we should give any ground (even unintentionally) to the people who undoubtedly *do* believe that.

But yeah, I didn't mean to offend anyone with my "RPGs take less skill" comment, but admit it--with your typical JRPG ATB system most battles come down to 'press a, wait, press b, wait, heal, press a again" --not nearly as complicated as learning a new map for an FPS or all the effort that goes into learning the latest tactical strategies of Starcraft 2, which seem to change every two days.
Please read my above post--I didn't think the unfortunate implications were unfortunate towards RPG gamers, I thought they were unfortunate towards female gamers. And again, I'm pretty sure you didn't intend this, but I don't want people who honestly believe that we need games (among other things) to be easier than men do to feel "encouraged" by that statement.

thats always good, insult the person thats on your side that thinks more games should be geared towards female protagonists would be a great thing.
Just because i think that whole survey that that states this...
.
Of the 117 million active gamers in the U.S., 56 percent play games online. Sixty-four percent of those online gamers are female, according to results of the survey, released by Nielsen Entertainment on Thursday.

Is complete and utter hogwash.. doesnt mean i have anything against girl gamers.. Some of my best freinds in online games are girls.. that still doesnt change the fact that from my experiance in 5 major MMO's the ratio of girls to guys is 15% to 20% would be pushing it.. So untill they post some more data, and give some hard numbers of what these girls are playing im calling the survey complete bunk.

What?
You have an odd definition of trolling, I don't see many Female protagonist in action/adventure genre who pull off the role well. There are exceptions such as Femshep from mass effect but movvies such as bloody rayne and tomb raider are just hard for me to take seriously.
Many female actors im sure could lead the way as a Protagonist in Drama, horror, Or chickflick/lit but the action/adventure genre is dominated by male Proggys and rarley see exceptions

Blood Rayne main character is just fine - in games. That said, she's not human and has little of human personality. She's a ruthless monster, enjoying violence. Sometimes she shows lust for revenge and she really loves herself (typical egocentric). Not a very good example for an RPG, since it's a naturally very shallow character.Shadow_broker wrote...

Don't forget Anime. Ghost in the shell, Gunslinger girl, Tokyo Godfathers - all of these portray strong, often tragic female protagonists.
I personally think Bioware has featured admirable women in their games.

The result may be a bit skewered by all the Firefly-groupies out there but it shows that there are good/interesting female characters in action/adventure (haven't seen any love on this forum for [tv]The Middleman[/tv], but oh well). The numbers may not be higher then their male counterparts, it doesn't mean they're non excistent.
I do have an issue with the reasoning of the OP of why there should be new female gamers playing DragonAge, stating that this would make female players more important. Shouldn't the reason be so they can have some f**ing fun actually playing the game? If the women you know don't like playing this style of RPG show them some Fable 2 as an intro and maybe they'll grow into playing DA. If they don't then don't push it onto them for your own causes.
