Have you seen the trailer? What do you think it would look like to someone who's never even heard of Dragon Age?

I have. Advertising Male Hawke does not portray the game as something it isn't. The player can choose to be male. Unless you meant the actual combat itself exhibited in the trailer, which is another matter entirely.

This is getting pedantic.

The trailer depicts an overtly masculine character battling monsters and stealing a kiss from a beautiful woman. What would an outsider assume the game was about?

And if it was the female Hawke in the trailer kicking ass and stealing a kiss from a handsome man what then?

I dont see how the Hawke that is depicted as being overtly masculine in the trailer either. Other then he is a man. He did not charge in there wearing a loin clother while being the size of a building with muscles so large that only steroids could of made them.

Seems he is of an average height and build. Not the conan esque male that is a regular portrayle of a guy.

Maybe you can clear up my confusion with elaborating a little bit why he is so overtly masculine.

It sounds like you're implying something.

I am just saying that almost always, when someone opposes the OP's ideas, he tends to be flamed.

I've already quoted a ton of statistics about the false idea that PC gamers are mostly male.

Why did you make a thread if you are not willing to change your mind if you have enough proof?

Statistics on the internet are a dime a dozen, and who cares when your own opinion is fact anyway?

But you haven't explained why it is so important to you, personally, that "NEW females" are attracted to the franchise.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, but I'm not sure how anyone could argue that the Hawke in the trailer isn't "overtly masculine."  He has a beard, for one thing, which women tend not to have...

How can you fault the viewer when it's the trailer that isn't doing its job?

I don't feel that the trailer failed in the purpose Bioware gave it.

And what would that be?

As said, to attract people.

Again, males.

I believe that the prime audience is males simply because that is most of the market of these kinds of games, but it's not as if Bioware made the trailer to attract only male gamers. I mean, is it inconceivable that people may be attracted by the theme of rising to one's destiny, to power, of romance, war, the fantasy elements? The gender of the protagonist is not the only thing that matters here.

Not when the character they'll be playing feels like the same male lead they see in all those B-List summer movies.

Which he isn't or at least doesn't have to be and that's part of the problem. He's a recycled archetype meant to appeal to the imagined male drive for high adventure romance and war.

The gender of the protagonist matters to me. I would love for Bioware to have Lady Hawke on the cover and/or in an actual trailer.

You're implying that those statistics are completely true and reliable.

There is no possible way for anyone to verify that on their own.

I'd have thought the reason was kind of obvious... The more women who buy the game, the more bioware will take them into consideration when making and marketing the games, the more we like them :)

You would have to check each and every computed on Earth if you wanted an actual realiable result.

The target audience would have women. The point I was trying to make was that the obvious target audience the trailer was geared to is men.

Perhaps what was meant was "overly" masculine?

Trailer Hawke is overtly masculine but not OVERLY masculine.

God forbid people appreciate parts of the trailer that you don't.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
