I just found out there will be a movie adaption and I'm friggin' stoked as ME is one of my all-time fav. video game series next to Metal Gear Solid.

And the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the news was the question who should play Commander Shepard?

Honestly, Matthew Fox takes the cake.

Observe.

Coincidentally, Matthew Fox played a charcter named Jack Shepard in the TV series Lost which just ended it's final season this year.

I wonder if the fact that he has a shaved head and played a character of the same name is the reason this keeps coming up. I also wonder if the people who suggest him have ever seen Lost. This is a character who has become known for his constipated crying faces.

I didn't think he was that great of an actor, and I certainly didn't find him intimidating or commanding, two traits Commander Shepard needs. Now granted, I haven't seen in Fox in anything else, maybe these are traits he can play. But from the six years I watched him on Lost I never once thought he'd make a good Shepard.

Any actor can shave his head to a military cut for the part. Not any actor can play Shepard.

He does remarkably look like shepard, but Not a great actor

Should stay on the small screen

Jeez, I always thought his crying faces were pretty moving. He's a man, and he looks like he's trying his best to hold something back - imo it seemed like a pretty great way to express an upsurge of emotion he's not allowing to come out. Because men don't cry and all that junk.

Has nothing to do with him being a man. When Sawyer cried, I felt something. When Locke cried, I felt something. When Jack cried, I thought this.

IIRC, it hasn't been confirmed. There aren't even script details yet. IMDb is somewhat like wikipedia, occasionally it gets false data.

I still hope that the movie won't have shepard in it at all. It would be way better to have something like a Rachni wars movie or a First Contact wars movie. Setting it during Shepard's storyline would take away from the actual games, IMHO.

He's a great actor, and thought the crying was appropriate for his character on Lost...

Having said that I don't want him playing Shepard. I want a woman to do it. In fact I want the whole thing done using performance capture technology and get Jennifer Hale to do it.

While that would be cool, It's highly unlikely. People who have never played ME know who Shepard is and Hollywood is unlikely to not cash in on that.

Like any movie interpretation, it's best to accept that it will be changed to draw more than just the current fans and to go in expecting as much. Think of it as an alternate story. You'll end up being less disappointed.

I still feel and always will that a "true to the fans" Mass Effect film should be in CG like the trailers. And just to keep everyone happy Shep should still keep the Sheploo look with Mark Meer as his VA as well as all the original cast. And he should be a Paragade (mix of Renegade and Paragon choices for those who don't know the term) use a mix of Tech/Biotics/Soldier AR'ing/sniping/shotgunning to keep all the fans to stop from saying a class was favoured.

Also he should be a hermaphrodite with tourrettes that occasionally speaks with Jennifer Hale's voice to please those that played Femshep.

Uh...I sense I may have gone too far on that last part.

I don't get the love for this Matthew Fox person. Just because he looks the part doesn't mean he can also play the part.

Didn't most fans (well on these forums anyway) play as femshep?  There are polls somewhere...

Anyway, please not Sheploo!  Otherwise all those idiots are never gonna stop going on about the default Shepard being canon, when there isn't one, ARGH!!

As others have stated: CGI. Honestly though, even if it is very unlikely, a story about the First Contact War would be better imo. Also, the whole Femshep/Maleshep thing is overblown, the stats are probably closer to 50/50.

God, stop kidding yourself. For marketing  purposes there has *always* been a default one, how many times does Bioware have to repeat that, here's a hint, it's the male sheploo one. And you can just bet that if we ever have a movie involving shepard it'll be a male one named john. You may not like it, a lot of us may not like it, I certainly don't. But face facts. This is how it is.

I have never, ever, said that the sheploo shepard is not the default.

Default Shep IS the canon one. Wheter YOU want the story or not, it's ok. But there is a canon Shep.

The good thing is that if they do a movie like this it could have whatever name slapped onto it. It stops being my character and story and that ruins the whole movie before it even begins

If there's ever a movie it shouldn't have Shepard in it at all
