so i just got the game today and got a few addons (return to ostagar, the darkspawn awakening, shale, blood dragon armour, and the blightblood stuff that came with the chronicles). the game ITSELF said that i needed to update for some of the new dlc to work... i did and now i cant get the recently downloaded dlc to work namely everything except shale and the blood dragon armour. Does anyone have ANY idea WHY this happened?, and HOW i can fix it?

1) Do you have the Awakening Expansion Installed.

2) You may need to update game with the latest patches, you should beware that 1.04 patch causes problems such as games crashing in the middle of combat or when your party mages cast large area spells.

Whether or not Mybunnies has the Awakening expansion installed, if the patch installed was 1.04 (which it almost certainly was) then there are plenty of forum threads discussing problems with DLC showing up as unauthorized. The worst I've seen personally is about an extra 30 seconds of waiting time on start-up while DA tries to log me into my BW account online.

@Mybunnies, take a look at the existing forum threads on DLC authorization issues with 1.04. Good luck.

Sure, waiting 30 seconds is terrible...

You have to install the newest patch after you install the toolset or Awakening otherwise its known to cause issues. make sure your installing 1.04 correctly and of course have done the normal troubleshoot as found in the sticky threads here. Also make sure your properly logging into the bioware servers and letting it update.

So we can install Origins along with its Dlc's, followed by awakening and the the latest patch. After that we can add mods made by other players.

basicaly, the patch looks for certain info to update. If its not there it dosnt get updated so you end up with a partial patched game.

In other words i should:

1) Install origins First

2) Patch Origins

3) Install Awakenings

4) Patch Awakenings

5) Install Mods

I think you can simplfy this process by:
1. Installing Dragon Age: Origins
2. Installing Awakening
3. Installing 1.04 Update
4. Installing mod(s)

Yes you dont need to install a patch prior to installing awakening, after installing awakening you should install either patch 1.03 or 1.04.

If I'm right, you don't have to install patch 1.03 after Awakening as it is already included in this expansion.

I would like to enquire could the Crashes some players have been experiencing be because of the Microsoft OS patches that were released recently (appearently they broke a lot of applications that used undocumented APIs)

Has anyone tried to clean their Temporary files in an attempt to prevent crashes(Got this from the customer support page of dragon age origins) below is the way to do thisL

To delete your Windows temporary files on Windows Vista:

Click on Start

Type %temp% in the search box, and then hit the Enter key.

Click on one of the files in the folder that just opened, and press Ctrl + A to select all of the files in this folder.

Press the Delete key on your keyboard.

When prompted if you are sure, choose Yes.

If you receive a Error Deleting File or Folder message while the files are being deleted, it just means that one of the files is in use by a program right now. Click OK, close all open programs, and repeat the steps above. If this continues, try restarting your PC and repeating the process again.

You can also use a program like CCleaner to perform this operation (and many others) on a regular basis.

JackM apparently doesn't use Shale, or spells like Mana Clash or Holy Smite, or any restricted items when visiting the Silverite Mines, or the Stealing skill through Tactics, or Vigilance, or Blackblade armor, or the Find Vitals talent.  Personally, I've never had a problem installing or running the game or with authorization issues.  There are always going to be people who don't run into these issues because they simply don't encounter them.  Just ask the Bioware QA team...

I have had Shale in my team and I use many AoE spells (like Holy Smite and Mana Clash) without any issues.

I have not yet visited the Silverite Mines but I will take some precautions before entering them as explained in the 1.04 patch notes and in this thread (although I don't mind losing some equipments :)).
