I've just upgraded to windows 7 x64, and have been trying to run BG2.

Shadows of Amn installed with no problems, although I had a small Ikernal problem with Throne Of Bhaal and its patch, put I got around that problem by renaming the old Ikernal before doing the install

It's running in XP SP2 compatibility mode, with the G3 Fixpack, G3 Tweakpack and the Widescreen Mod (on an ever so slightly non standard resolution so it runs in windowed mode)

I then decided I wanted to create 2 characters instead of one, my main character who was going to be a fighter of some kind, and a supporting wild mage. So having done this before, I fired up multiplayer, set it to TCP/IP, clicked new game, it pauses for a second, and then Im on the create characters screen.

The problem is I cant assign myself to any of the character slots, I click on the assign slot button and I dont have any players listed (I should be there)

In addition the protagonist slot (that should be automatically assigned and locked to the host) is greyed out.

Also I should mention that I have a COM port on my computer as well, so can select Serial, it has the same problem.

Anyone encountered this. I plan to set up an XP duel boot at some point, but it was all looking so hopeful that I wouldn't need to.

Edit: Added information on Null Modem and corrected a few spellings

Have you tried it without XP SP2 compatibility mode?
I have Windows 7 x64 (or x86 as it reads on my PC) and have no issues with Baldur's Gate or multiplayer. There is a pinned thread for people using Windows 7 somewhere, maybe try looking there if you haven't already.

I can't offer anything else, except maybe use the Level 1 NPCs mod to change a current mage to a wild mage, thus removing the need for a multiplayer session.

Edit: I don't think the widescreen mods works with multiplayer, maybe try uninstalling that first?

Yep you were right. Widescreen Mod was causing problems, I'll just have to use the feature of my screen which turns it into a 4:3 resolution. Thanks for the help. I've got another problem now, but that's another topic
