Anyway, we can agree that the drone in itself is NOT a unique skill. Shepard's version is just incredibly superior. The squadmate versions are horrible. Because of their incredibly long cooldown, I've given up on using them,

I don't get why it should matter whether the skill is unique or not. After all, Singularity isn't unique (thanks, Liara!), and neither is Tech Cloak (thanks, Kasumi!). And you could easily argue that Tech Armor is just a beefed up version of Barrier, Fortification, or Geth Shield Boost. And the primary property of Adrenaline Rush is a total knockoff of the Sniper time dilation available to an Infiltrator. None of those abilities are truly unique... but you don't see those classes complaining, do you?

The combat drone would be much nicer if you could assume command of it,
say through AI hacking (and every other synthetic enemy for that matter).
Engineers are about indirect fighting, and while they're better then they used to be,
this concept can be expanded to a great degree, making the engineer the choice
for tacticians.

It's true that Engineers do have good "indirect fighting" abilities (Drone, Cryo,
Hacking), but I'd hardly say they're "all about it". After all, the
class has the best shield-stripping and armor-stripping powers in the
entire game, too. You can very easily turn your Engineer into an Incinerate/Overload spammer. Overload shield, Incinerate armor, Cryo Blast health, shatter enemy. That's about as direct as you can possibly get.

I'm in the middle of my first Engineer playthrough and I don't see any way at all that Bioware has screwed the Engineer class. I also don't see how having a "unique" skill is necessary for the class to be legitimate, especially given that classes are universal in ME and for every class power Sheppard can get, the AI gets an analogue - albeit balanced for single play (other than maybe AR). Speaking of Infiltrators, ppl should realize that geth hunters get Tactical Cloak too - it's just that the AI isn't allowed to shoot us when we do it, because ME is meant to be a single player game.

Coming off my recent Sentinel playthrough, the only real challenge to this class is adapting to your lower health. IMO, the Engineer pretty much comes into its own by Horizon or so, if you've been playing decently. Everything after that is mostly just buffing your existing skills.

I'd say more, but I'd totally be repeating what's already been said.

i still think the engineer could be a tactician's dream if you could customize the drone

or have different drone types and could spam them. and/or control them.

And here I thought combat drone was one of the best powers in the game. Also the engineer has unique defense stripping power. Only barrier is an issue and while it is on the collectors it is otherwise the rarest defense in the game. Being able to handle shields and armor quickly and on your own means probably 90% of the enemies are neutralized(brought to health) easily.

I'm guessing because someone used the search function instead of making a new thread.
