Ive been using this link to read about the different movement types.
http://social.biowar....php/3D_control
Now Im not sure what the difference between area and level creation is, but there is options to change
the mouse style in area editor but not level editor.
Frankly I find the level editor movement controls retarded. But even if I did use them, ALT + middle mouse button does not rotate for me 9 times out of ten. Changing the mouse style under area creation options doesnt seem to matter.
Please tell me there is an alternative.

What kind of computer and mouse are you using if I may ask? With my older desktop I can rotate and move as needed fine (though as you point out the controls are different than in an area.
With my newer lap top and cordless mouse I cannot rotate at all. I've tried many things the damn mouse controls are just different and thus it is useless for me to even think about moving around levels with my lap top. Pity really.

If someone has found a way to fix this, I would like to hear it too. I had asked this very question about 8 months ago:

The easiest way, at least for me, is to map the right mouse button to the middle mouse when in the DA Toolset and use one of the thumb buttons to use as right-click. I've become very comfortable with this setup since this allows me to use the same mouse movements in both the level and area editors. Admittedly, you will have to buy such a mouse if you don't have one but I consider that a small payment to avoid the frustration of using the mouse wheel as a button.
There are some mice that will even allow you to switch on/off the mapping so you could potentially have it on only for the level editor.

I have a wireless mouse with lots of buttons on my pentium quad desktop. So I can remap them in windows? That would solve a lot of the stupidity then I Could leave all area options to nwn toolset and have it work best for me.

Eguintir, you will have to use the software that comes with your mouse to re-map the buttons.

actually thats not a good solution. I guess I just wont use this toolset or maybe they will improve it in dragon age 2 and then I will. Dont got time to fiddle around with the very basics at this stage

You know if you read the old link it says you can edit the xml. I got it to work with my right mouse button for rotating etc. Just doesnt move yet so maybe I missed something.

Seems more trouble than its worth as I thought. Maybe they will fix this up one day but count me out for now, not that anyone cares, but count me anyway

I have a logitech MX510 with two extra buttons on the side near the moulded thumbrest. I simply mapped the larger of these two buttons to the middle mouse button and haven't had a problem since. The level editor is by far the hardest part of the toolset to get used to, which is why I didn't try to use it for Alley of Murders.

You have to use the SetPoint software that you can download from Logitech's site. I have a G500 that doesn't allow switching profiles on the fly. If that is the same with your mouse, you will have to configure the profile to be active when the DAToolset.exe application is active.

Im not sure if its the mouse or the XML file I edited but now:
Right mouse + alt rotates and pitches.
Right mouse + shift moves, but only left and right
wheel zoomes as usual
if it could somehow move up and down and not just left and right I would be fine right now

Switch to flycam style using the little WASD button. WASD moves, alt+ right-mouse will pan left/right/up/down, Right mouse will turn the camera.
