For instance; I doubt the air was very grim or serious when they were trying to figure out which canyons you would fly through in Firewalker.

Yeah, well, y'know that just like uhh your opinion, man.
You disagree? Look at the carry over decisions. They all turned out to be one conversation each, some a tad longer than others, but all relegated to the extremes of side-quest land.
When importing a Shep who didn't recruit Garrus, the only difference is that Garrus doesn't mention his being on the team and the initial greeting sentence is different.
When importing a Shepard who pissed off Tali she completely forgets that she didn't like you and turns into a fangirl.
When recruiting Morinth you end up with Samara's character model everywhere but the room on the Normandy, and the vast, vast majority of her dialogue is Samara's dialogue and voice. On top of that she gets only one dialogue tree on the Normandy as it is.
ME2 is full BioWare taking the easy way out. If you disagree, or think that's just my opinion, go ahead and point out my errors.
*Forgot to mention the email system as well. LOL, if that's not the easy way out I don't know what is.
Couldn't agree more. I just replayed ME1 and there is so much more "texture" to that game it makes ME2 seem sad. The graphics and combat are leaps and bounds better in ME2 and there is more squad interaction, but the story and “feel” of ME1 make it a better overall experience.

What I would like to know is just how seriously Bioware's taken the production of this DLC. Did they force themselves into the understandably more serious mindset of the production of the main game? Or was it a more relaxed one of DLC production.

From what they have publicly said about this DLC it should be more serious than the other DLC. It's still DLC, however, and will have the limitations attendant to something less than a full expansion.

This is the same for almost every game & movie out there that is number 2 in a trilogy.
The gap has to be bridged somehow, and most of the time this is done by stretching the story out and saving on conversation between characters.

I think in terms of squad-banter and the relationships between the characters, ME2 suffers from being the middle-child of the trilogy.

More squad interaction? What squad interaction? For a Dirty Dozen sf remake most squadies didn´t seem to be in talking terms at all. And with Shepard there was just the click in scenario from time to time.JamieCOTC wrote...

There are parts of the game where the devs seem to just have gone through the motions. And the continuity they talked so much about? It barely shows. We can´t even mention Akuze.

The three squaddies that need dialogue are Garrus, Tali, and Miranda.
That's it. No one else NEEDS something to say, immersion wise.
But if those three don't mention that they know Liara, its a major fail.
Don't forget in the main game, you can bring Tali and Garrrus to your first meeting with Wrex in Tuchanka and no one says anything. Only Shepard and Wrex talk.

Miranda and Thane can have something to say. On the latter wasnt it the SB that had something to do with his wife's death?

Despite how impressed I was with Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 1 remains my best sample of Bioware ingenuity and cultivated OCD with regards to the story, characters, dialogue, etc. (other than DA:O, which was obviously on another level entirely). Wrex's discord with Shepard during the Rachni Queen confrontation, Liara's dialogue, Ashley's connection to her family and how she shared that with you, her reasons for being racist, Kaidan's well-developed background, the Romances (even though, back when ME1 came out, I, like most other people, complained about the abruptness to them). The debriefings where the team was gathered together (I f&&*ing miss those), and the same three or four people always being the ones with something to say...
The ONLY times I was disappointed was when I was given a short praragraph of text on a mission that described a scene that hadn't been animated or voiced during production; and even that wasn't that frequent.
Of course, I remember reading during ME2's late development that the team had pretty much finished several things ahead of schedule (no surprise), so they decided to add random features like the fish tank and the radio in Shepard's room.
I'm not complaining, I'm just pointing out that the game (and the DLCs we've gotten), despite the polish they've recieved, are inferior to the first game in most ways. I would rather Bioware release ME3 in 2013 and turn its efforts from improving on combat (which was excellent in ME2), to improving the story, character development, carry-over continuity, and dialogue.
