Shepard: Morlan? What the hell are you doing here?
Morlan: You want much good information, yes?
Shepard: No, I'm looking for the Shadow Broker.
Morlan:(Now talking in slow, methodical voice) *Pulls out pistol* Well Shepard, that is... Unfortunate. You see, I really hoped I wouldn't have to do this. Of course, if you leave now, I may let you live...
Liara: Shepard no!
Shepard: Forget it Morlan, you're not getting away from this alive.*Pulls out coffee cup* Liara, do your thing.
*Liara hits Morlan with powerful Biotic Field and lifts his remnants neatly into the coffee cup*

I wish they'd up the squadmate level cap so they can have all their skills maxed out.
The Mass Effect Gibbed Editor is a life saver for that and also for weapons

I'd settle with 31 skill points for every squaddie and non mandatory spent on their bonus power.

SB is a:
1. volus? The humor would kill the drama.
2. elcor? ditto.
3. krogan? Would play against type. This makes it unlikely but interesting if true.
4. turian? We have denied this claim.
5. hanar? Unintentional hilarity again.
6. drell? Possible.
7. human? Possible. As the anti-TIM this would be amusing, if anti-climactic.
8. asari? Possible. The social position of asari in an out of Council space make them well placed to be information brokers.
9. salarian? Possible to Probable. Salarian culture is singularly focused on information acquisition.
10. batarian? Possible to Probable. Batarians are as anti-human as TIM is anti-alien. Apparent permissiveness of Batarian morality makes this a fitting choice.
11. quarian? Unlikely. Outcast status of quarians makes cultivating of intel assets difficult. Technical skills of quarians are a point in their favor though if most of SB's info comes from extranet.
12. geth? Unlikely. Same reasons as for quarians.
13. vorcha? Unlikely. Extreme individual adaptation would be positive, but very short lifespan
Ergo I think the top three candidates, in order, are:
1. Batarian.
2. Salarian.
3. Asari.
4. Human.
Thoughts?

I doubt SB is a human. I envision the SB as someone who has been around since well before humans joined galactic civilization.
I kind of like the idea of SB being a krogan. Goes against typecast, which is a point in it's favor.
Salarians make sense, although in that case SB is probably a collective rather than an individual, since salarians are so short-lived.
Probably the most likely candidate is an asari. Long lived, good at gathering info, etc.

Totally agree with everything you've written here except for the geth. We already learned that they have been poking around the lives of organics without their (the organics') knowledge, so I actually think it would be a fairly plausible idea for the Shadow Broker to be geth. Legion is evolving his own unique personality, right? What if he wasn't the first geth to do so? Maybe a geth platform started thinking on its own and decided that the goals of the geth didn't mesh well with the goals it had in mind. It would be a fairly straightforward and simple process, I would think, for an AI platform to then infiltrate information networks and build an information empire. Plus, maybe it keeps itself hidden - that way its subordinates wouldn't know it was a geth. *Shrug* I actually think the geth scenario is one of the most plausible, outside of salarian, asari, or human.

Also, I'm not sure geth would be that interested in money. And SB's lines in Redemption don't seem like something geth would say.

Legion didn't "evolve" a personality. It's a unique platform specifically designed to run enough geth processes to be autonomous. It didn't happen on accident.

That last part is probably true, but not the first part. In the game, there are hints that Legion may be evolving a personality. For example, he is unable to provide a logical explanation as to why he's wearing a piece of Shepard's old N7 armor.

There are hints that geth as a whole are "evolving personality". What I mean was, Legion wasn't just one geth that happened to become independent. He (it, they) was specifically designed for that. Geth don't seem to enjoy being separated from other geth. It took something as big as Reaper's offer of that Dyson sphere technology to splinter a group apart from them. If Shadow Broker is geth, that would be all of the geth. Which I doubt.
I guess we agree then.
