On the topic of Suicide. I myself had someone close to me commit suicide, but in the end suicide is a cowards choice, and a very selfish choice. A person that commits suicide gives up, and does not think or even consider what their action has on the people that care about him or her. As the saying goes suicide is a permanant solution to a temporary problem.  it is a serious issue but in the end I have no repect for people that take that easy way out. David said nothing out of line from what I've read.

All of that disregards the possibility of said person having mental health issues.

Just saying.

Back to the topic of stalking David Gaider and the writing team, is anyone else on the team besides David writing a novel or anything?

Words can not express how much I would love to be a Fly on the Wall in the Writer's Pit for just a few hours. Would blow my mind.

It would blow your mind. Especially today.

To be fair, it's a lot of long periods of near-silence when the room is filled only with the sounds of keyboard keys clicking, punctuated by the weirdest damned conversations ever. Or sometimes Sheryl screaming because the tech designer she just IMed with a question walked into the room and said her name.

Dude, you left too early and you totally missed the resolution of that thing that Luke was talking about earlier. You know?

That was magnificent.

Oh no, really?! You're going to have to give me a complete rundown tomorrow.

I did, in fact, know someone that committed suicide.

It doesn't mean I get offended everyone someone says the word "suicide". Lighten up.

How insensitive...to the people who went through such an experience....

As  a person who has a mental health issue...I would have to say I have met people who are cutters druggies and some have died because of it.
Very insensitive to those people who have experienced such things.
Me personally could not care less, if I want to kill myself i would do it.*no I am not suicidal..at least not yet;)*
Besides suicide is only selfish if someone relies on you/or you owe someone something imo.

Come on folks, this thread was fairly upbeat and was providing an awesome insight into the brilliance of the BioWare writers. If you have a problem with something *anyone* says, PM them, that's what it's there for.

I did have a question that will hopefully get things in the right direction again. How does one even qualify for an internship with the BioWare team? Must one already have a degree? How many years word of Collage/Uni under your belt? Just the possibility blows me away.

Right now I have two and a half years of a B.A. majoring in Creative Writing. I also have training/worked professionally as an animator, and that has definitely helped me get a foot in the door.

I was extremely lucky, it all came down to timing for me. I had a class where we are supposed to apply for internships in writing/publishing, and since I've always wanted to work at BioWare, I researched the possibility, and found out that EA definitely offered internships. Turned out BioWare was in need of some help on DA2, and they offered me a 6 month internship. It's been uber awesome ever since.

Hope that helps. :)

I had no idea Gaider had written Alistair. The character's comments were hilarious at times. I can see where the character's sarcasm came from. Plus his story was interesting too. Awesome job, Gaider. It would actually be really cool to see a DLC of Alistair focusing on a part of his past much like Leiliana and her DLC.

Well, sadly, I do not have any academic standing or experience which comes even close to that. About a year under my belt, nothing more. None the less, I congradulate you on your incredible success in even obtaining such a coveted position. In regards to the field of writing (for novels, films, television, and so forth) I do not think you could find yourself in better company.

Though it is not my intention to cause you trouble, as well as understanding that there are certain subjects and ideas you'd never be able to discuss in regards to the ongoing development of the game and other BioWare titles you may be privy too, I think it would amazing if you were able to detail your time with the BioWare creative team in a Blog or Podcast. For those who may never be able to find thier way through the doors at Edmonton or Austin, it would be the next best thing.

Heh I've just finished my three year B.A. degree in Film and Creative writing. Extremely envious! It's great to hear from someone 'on the inside' who isn't an official employee though, it seems like you have a pretty high opinion of working for Bioware as well. Good luck with the rest of your internship. :)

Thanks to the OP for this interview! Also hearing the other writers chime in has been wonderful, ae there any other interview of articles like this for the other writers? As an artist myself I'm always inspired to hear about how the creative process is for others.

Even if hearing about your work environment makes me insanely jealous. I'd love to be in an illustration department that doesn't feel like a tyrannical dictatorship.

David, I believe a few months ago you posted saying that there has been no future plans for another Dragon Age novel. In the chat conference thing from Gamescom, I tried many times to get an answer from Mike. I imagine they skipped the question as they still didn't have a plan to continue it, but I would like to possibly know your personal opinion on the subject...

Is there any light in sight for another novel or should I stop holding my breath? ;p

So you know someone who committed suicide and now every suicide joke is insulting? Wow, you either need to lighten up or grow up:whistle:

I imagine there is a bit more to the story since Duncan basically had to conscript Alistair. That probably created a bit of a rift with the Chantry. I'd love to see some more DLCs focusing on events before Origins.

Speaking of more novels (and I hope we get to see some from Gaider and the other authors at some point), is it possible that any of them would include characters from the game since this may result in canonising some situations?

Of all the characters in Gaider's novels, only Loghain shows up in the game and for limited appearances overall so his story doesn't contradict anything from the novel (and also the players who haven't read the novel still can appreciate the role he plays). Maybe future novels would elaborate more on side characters (like Teagan!) instead of main characters that the player can dictate the fates of.

Anyway, I just hope to get more novels and possibly more comics. Can't wait to see part 3 of the interview with Gaider, it's been an interesting insight so far.

I've been wondering... is the 'Gai' in 'Gaider' pronounced like 'high' or 'hey'?

I thought 'guyder' myself, but I've come to the conclusion my pronounciation/accent is a minority round here. (I didn't get the 'Mike Hawke' joke until I heard the name in a dev interview... I pronounce 'Hawke' more like 'Hawwwke' than 'Hahhhke'... If that makes any sense).
