Hi.
Well, the title says everything.
Can't run the toolset. Game with the last patch, .Net Framework 3.5, Directx 9 updated. Running the game perfectly. The toolset crashes in inicialization.
Version 1.0 worked, when I updated the game the problem started.

And are you fully patched? What sort of video card do you have? What is the driver level of the video card? Do you have a 32 bit or 64 bit machine? Did you sacrifice an all white chicken at midnight of the last full moon?

If you're running the XP (SP3) OS, then the only issues I can see being trouble would be Nvidia card with drivers between 196.21 -- 257.21 you could be experiencing those issues from that. Why it affects updated games and not the originals I cannot say. The game's graphics were somewhat optmized and changed slightly during patching, so that might be the issue. Still, it's only happening on Nvidia cards where the toolset crashes if that's the case. Other times the game or toolset will load up and there will be missing graphics, icons and UI elements.

If you have further problems, post here and ask. I will delete your other double post that I have been promised is not possible to do no on these better faster more stable with less features forums.

The game lists .NET 2.0 as a requirement. If you don't have that installed, that might be the problem.

Windows 32 bits and 8600GT 256MB DDR3 with driver 195.65 (the last that runs the game is 196.21, above has problems - had to go back to 195.65 because of this).
Video is not the problem as the game runs well.

Installed the 2.0 .NET from the NWN2 DVD. Not worked. Stopped the error that searching found to be caused by not having .NET 2.0 installed. Upgraded to .NET 3.5. Now it crashes on initialization. And as I posted earlier, the 1.0 version runned. I even created some things on it.

With the .Net 3.5 installed, I can only recommend attempting another reinstall of the game, whatever expansions you have (if any) and then Updating your game to v1.23.1765. What's going on definitely sounds more like a .net issue than anything else.

At this point, though, I honestly don't know what else to advise. What level of system RAM do you have and are there any other changes to hardware/software that you've made since before it ran okay and now it doesn't?

best regards and stick with it,

I have the Gold version (NWN2 + MotB). But installed only game without the expansion. After I finish the game I'll install the expansion.
The problem started after patching the game. Don't installed any hardware recently. Memory is not the problem (1,5 GB RAM). Running the game perfectly at medium.
I'll try to install it in Windows 7 later.

I used to have a 8600 GT 512 and I couldn't get the toolset to load as well. It would just crash out on startup.

I think you'll have to upgrade your video card.

Installed in Windows 7 and the game and toolset are working perfectly with the last patch.
Below is the message error in XP. Apparently, the error is for file not found. Any ideas to discover the problem?

EventType : clr20r3     P1 : nwn2toolsetlauncher.exe     P2 : 1.0.23.1765
P3 : 4a89fba1     P4 : nwn2toolset     P5 : 1.0.1765.0     P6 : 4a89fc8c
P7 : 20d     P8 : 1b     P9 : system.io.filenotfoundexception

Like I posted before, I have .NET Framework 2 to 3.5 SP1 installed.
Visual C++ 2005 and 2008 Runtime are installed.

I don't want to unninstall because I found a lot of people having problems with save-games when uninstalling and reinstalling again.

8600GT is far above the requirements. The problem is other, as I run the game well, and on 7 is working.

I'm pretty sure you're still dealing with a .net issue. How to solve it, though, well that's beyond my meager skills. I would attempt to install the .net through the installation process file that comes with the NWN2 original disc (it's in the Prereqs folder on the disc, as is the directX and a few other things. Don't install X-fire from the disc it's borked.)

Tested today and now it worked.

I think Obsidian made a great game, but their updates are really a mess. This company have to think better. Not anyone has broadband connection to download more than 600MB easily. Never had problems like this and to update NWN1.

I think the problem is that something didn't came in an update. And i installed some demos and games, and some installed different builds of Visual C++. And the game is incompatible wit newer builds.

Really a mess what Obsidian did.

It's just as likely that something got jacked or corrupted during the download process. The larger the file sizes the greater the opportunity to have something like that happen. While the files may seem a mess (and I think this is a bone of contention amongst the fans that there had to be a better way to update than was done) the complexity of an RPG in the first place, with so many things interdependant upon the others, that the way they did it may have been the 'best way' they could manage in the time frame they gave themselves.

I am just glad to hear you got this thing going. Welcome to the club and the madness that is using the toolset.

best regards,
