Why do console gamers have to be stupid? I don't understand this whole mentality. I own all major consoles and play on the PC as well and I hardly consider myself stupid (maybe a bit dumb, I'll grant you that). I have many friends who play console exclusively and they're not stupid either. It's a good option for people who may not be able to afford a good PC for gaming. A lot of Origins gamers are console only and are just as passionate about the game as well. I just don't see the association where producing for consoles = a game is going to be made for idiots who don't know a video game from their buttcheek. There are massive numbers of morons who play PC games too.

Because console gamers tend to be younger and tend to want flashier, simpler games. Something like tactical isometric view, difficult combat, inventory management, character customization (ability to make "bad" character) simply doesn't appeal to them. They want to "win" the game ASAP and move on to the next piece of trash with even better graphics.

They have never given me any reason to lose faith. They've only ever produced high quality products that I can see.

If you want to stereotype, at least do it correctly.

Nope, I still have faith in Bioware, and Dragon Age 2 in particular.

I think the big unmentioned question on everyone's collective mind is this: Will there be any bowstrings?

With BioWare's esteemed track record, faith isn't even required.

I don't know, people said the same thing about Mass Effect 2 and Awakening and I haven't bought either of those. If it ends up not appealing to me I won't buy it, I'm not that delusional. So there's at least one person who that doesn't apply to. ^_^

Anyways on topic, why would anyone lose faith in BioWare. They're a business, they'll always do what's best for them so no reason to lose faith. If your faith in BioWare was they'd do what's best for you and for gaming "as a whole", well, bluntly put you're a fool.

I am going to wait until it comes out before making a final call on it.

However with them sounding exactly like the Mass Effect 2 team, I am not expecting greatness.

It is the new buzz word for elitists and a perfect argument for those with out an arguement.

Why should I ever expect a company (especially one that has the recognition the BW has) always expect them to do what I want them to do?
Why should a single company that clearly caters to a specific group be expected to be doing what is best for all of the gaming world?
Why should I worry about a company that has time after time proven that no matter what type of game they are making (be it Shattered Steele, MDK2, BG series, or Mass Effect) have proven to make games that are enjoyable be expected to hold up the entire gaming world?
Why should I worry that not matter what the changes have been the games have been fun and I am glad to have given them my money?
Sure maybe when first hearing about these games long before release, long before I ever had a chance to play them I worried about if I was going to like it and have fun but time after time they have proven to me it is not what you have but how you use it.
So my question is... why should I be acting like a petulant brat throwing a temper tantrum because he is not getting what he wants or expected to be getting when the track record has proven otherwise?

Shattered Steel was not exactly like Baldur's Gate, MDK2 (ya know the game BioWare made between BG and BG2) was not like BG2, NWN was not a clone of, which brings us to KOTOR, JE, NE, ME2, DAO. All games a majority of gamers around here have enjoyed. All games with distinct differences.

So why again should I be losing faith in BioWare?

So long as it ain't an ME style combat/control system and camera, I don't really care. I can deal with most other changes. Especially Flemeth in Dominatrix gear. That just rocks.

Nope. BioWare have yet to let me down, regardless of pre-release forum wankage. And besides, "faith" isn't exactly the word I'd use. I don't believe that BioWare will make games I enjoy for some irrational, unshakeable reason. I believe it because I've loved every game they've made, though all for different reasons.

I have the same kind of "faith" in Valve, Studio Ghibli, or any other creative studio that consistently produces quality, enjoyable work. *toasts*

We're both stupid for the same reasons yukidama. Ah well.

Not to praise you, but you are anything but stupid. I was when I tried to help that guy when you did today. :P

I am a PC gamer. And I think that by the term "dumbing down for consoles" means that a game has to be simplified for less advanced hardware and simpler controls. Maybe when the consoles were just released they were technically capable of the same things. The years have passed and the PCs have advanced and the consoles did not make any progress. That means games written for consoles are no challenge for the PC. It used to be common to push the limits in games for the PC. That's mostly gone because the games need to be portable.

Back on topic...

I feel a bit let down by BW. Yes. They don't keep their promises (like dates). They tell us that they'll improve the patches, but they actually don't fix anything substantial (still a hundred documented bugs to go for DAO (including the dexterity bug for bows)). With ME2 they promised that decisions would have real impact which turned out to be a lie (fact is the impact is cosmetic at best). Now DAO promises that the player's decisions will "shape the world". All I can think then is. Yeah. I've heard that before. The list goes on and on.

They have become unbelievable. I consider the above to be intentional lies just to sell the games (in the hope we fall for that nonsense and forget about it), so I don't trust any thing they say. I only see marketing crap and hype.

A bit of a stretch. I will view impressions on the boards and reviews before I buy. And I will most likely retain my critical mindset despite the knee-jerk " yer just a whiner ! " reactions on this forum.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't read your post as "you are  fool to have faith in BioWare" so much as you're a fool to have faith in thinking that a company will always pander directly to your tastes and never change.

My faith in theese boards and in man as an ''intelligent'' being is withered but my faith in Bioware remains strong.

But they need to fire their art team their graphicians and their musicians, at least the ones that worked with Origins. They could be making magical games but they aren't thanks to the lack of atmosphere that is due to aforementioned departments lack of originality and/or passion.

Bless their writers though.

If there are bowstrings in DA2 they will get their own reveal video and 3 page write up. Probably a bullet point on the back of the box as well. Bowstrings are serious business.
