I love playing an Adept in ME1.  But I can't get back into it during ME2..... I have no idea why.  Lift was one of my fav ME1 powers.... and I guess pull is the new lift?? Image IPB

So I'm curious what are good builds? More importantly bonus weapon choices.... I only have the free dlc to work with too....

So I started a build

Wide Singularity
Unstable Warp
Throw Field
3 Pull
3 Shockwave
Nemesis

I'm not sure if I have all the powers but that's what I came up with top of my head

Bonus Weapon

Avenger AR? Or Vindicator?? Mantis? Viper?

Or do we only get one AR/SR choice?

You also get shotgun as a choice. I suggest you save when boarding the collector ship and try out different weapons, notably the Viper. If you don't like the scoping down effect, get the AR or shotgun as a choice.

I was looking forward pretty hard to have the Mattock AR available for my Adept, so I picked AR - training without thinking twice. What a dissapointment. I couldn't get into a "fighting flow" with it and had a really hard time at the platforms. Tried the collector vessel two times and skipped AR training and took shotguns instead. I had blast in the end against the husk.

What does it tell you: make a save before picking the bonus weapon, try each choice and pick whatever you like most. There is no "best" choice, there is only a "most fun" choice. What is "most fun" is up to you, and you alone.

If you only have the free content:

With Assault Rifle training you can use the Avenger (standart), the Geth Pulse Rifle (if you play on hardcore or more. Most notable for it's huge ammunition and rather high precision) and the Vindicator (best damage, very high precision, 3-round-burst fire makes it weaker on very short distances[but for that you have the tempest SMG])

With Shotgun training you can use the Katana, the Scitimar and the Eviscerator. Here the best choice is without the Eviscerator: Best damage, best range.

With Sniper Rifle training you can use the Mantis (one shot-standart rifle. I always found it useful) and the Viper (fast shooting, lower damage. DPS-wise one of the best weapons in the game, but you seldom get so clear shots like with the Mantis) Both suffer from the scope: When you use a power, you zoom in. It get's extremely annoying IMHO.

Singularity can kill unarmored husks just as easily, and it's a skill you'll already have maxed for its many other uses.

Most (insanity) Adept builds I've seen seem to somewhat follow, or be slight variations of, these templates:

Vindicator or Mattock AR Adept
4 Heavy Warp
4 Heavy Throw
4 Heavy Singularity
1 Pull
4 Nemesis
4 bonus power (Heavy Warp ammo or Area Drain usually)

Scimitar or Geth Plasma Shotgun Adept
4 Heavy Warp
4 Heavy Throw
4 Heavy Singularity
1 Pull
4 Bastion
4 Heavy Barrier

Note: the evolutions people generally choose for Throw and Warp do vary a bit.  Personal preference, as is everything in player builds.

Builds will also differ depending on what difficulty level you are playing.

Veteran and below, shockwave is very useful once you get the hang of it, and area pull is also good. For Veteran and below I generally prefer Area Throw especially for husks. So for Veteran and below I generally run:

4 Area Throw

3 Singularity

4 Heavy Warp

4 Area pull

1 Shockwave

4 Adept(will vary with game, on extended duration or damage)

2 Bonus power--warp ammo or energy drain

For Hardcore and above:

1 pt Throw

4 Heavy Singularity

4 Heavy Warp

4 Area pull

4 Nemesis

4 Bonus power switching between Area Drain and Heavy Barrier

On higher levels I have found Shockwave to be just about useless, and Throw only slightly useful. This may just be my playstyle, and individual results will vary. Many people like the Wide Singularity, but I have found for my playstyle the extra hold of enemies allows me to live longer than the wider effect. For me the wide singularity just seems to fizzle out VERY quickly especially when fighting Harbinger and the like. I like area pull, because you don't have to hit the exact enemy to get him to float, you just have to hit any enemy close. When you are facing multiple shielded enemies on HC and above and you manage to strip ones shield they will duck behind cover, but if their friend is out of cover right next to them, they will rise up anyway.

Much of these decisions will depend on how you play the game, but it will take some learning to figure out how best to play.

On my Adept, I pick an Ammo Power for the bonus. The reason is because since I play on a 360, I'm limited to the number of powers I can map. With a passive power like that always active on my guns, I then map Warp, Pull, and Singularity. For me, it's more fun to keep the action going then ever having to mess around with the power wheel. I'll keep Throw as an ace in the hole for anyone getting to close, or just to smack some poor schmuck around.

If you're PC, then pretend I didn't say anything. :P

Regarding the weapons, keep in mind what pistol and SMG you're using. For example, if you're using the Locust SMG you might find AR training to be redundant. If you're using the Phalanx pistol, then sniper training might feel equally useless.

Get the Mattock, but since you only have the free DLC, the Vindicator is pretty good too.
