.. I don't like Sandal. The fact that some praise him makes me like him even less. Thats just my opinion though.

He's a cynical being. He probably thinks Sandal is mocking him.

How did Sandal survive that long in the deep roads?

You remember him in Fort Drakon with all the Darkspawn corpses around him? He did the same to those in the Deep Roads.

Sandal is either the Maker or he is a Spirit of the Fade, the Spirit of Awesomeness (KungFu Panda dream come through)

Even the most HEROIC HEROES in ALL OF FERELDEN BOWED IN RESPECT to this GREAT MASTER.

Sorry, I love that movie. :D

Nice try, but there are simply too many plot twists involving Sandal that no mere mortal can unravel them all.

Oh.... this thread is going somewhere. Where it is headed I have no bloody idea. As long as it doesn't end with A Life from Bobby Lee, I'll be good.

On the other hand, if it did, it would EXPLAIN EVERYTHING.

[Points for you if you can tag both references]

That might explain why he was surrounded by darkspawn bodies.

Hmm.
When you find Sandal at Drakon, the Darkspawn are dead, and he's covered with blood. The accepted theory is that he used magic.
Blood + Magic = Blood Magic.
Sandal is a super-powerful Blood Mage. He could theoretically teach someone else to use Blood Magic.
Archon Thalsion was taught Blood Magic.
By Dumat.
Sandal is Dumat and tought Archon Thalsion Blood Magic.
SANDAL CREATED THE TEVINTER IMPERIUM.

He is a lyrium powered dwarven smith, when faced with certain death he activated the latent lyrium energies within himself & blew the darkspawn to smithereens. His dwarven body holds magic like lyrium because he is infused with lyrium. Enchanted you might say...

This thread has me seriously thinking the less a character says, the more implied personality that character has; Thinking of all the oh so wordy ones in dragon age origins and yet for many sandal sticks out more - think about it.

I suppose it "could" be true after all Morrigan refers to the OGB as an "innocent"....perhaps what happens when the gods are reborn into human (or possibly dwarven/whatever) is a dramatic cut in intellect?

Unless of course; thats about as smart as the old gods were and they never were more than just really powerful animals.

Of course; Sandal could be playing everyone, maybe Flemeth isn't the only one powerful magician/abomination/whatever out there manipulating events and playing games.

First Archdemon, and first to die. The only two LEFT are Razikale and Lusacan. And they haven't been discovered yet. So..yeah. Theory kind of falls flat.

My personal theory is that lyrium-addled Sandal turned him into a darkspawn killing field. Explains the dead darkspawn. and the dead Ogre. Either that, or his whole body is ENCHANTED with Grandmaster runes up the wazoo.

Fair points.

But does anyone actually know the manner in which Dumat was killed? He was the First Archdemon so Grey Warden knowledge may have been limited back then. It could have been a temporary defeat.

What if some kind of Morrigan-esque trickery took place and Dumat was merely banished for a very, very long time - only to claw his way back into the body of Sandal?

Or alternatively - Sandal could contain the purified essence of Dumat and not the Archdemon version. Sandal is defintely some kind of super powerful deity though. I can sense it.

Dumat was the first and the greatest AND pioneered blood magic. It would explain the events that occurred in Fort Drakon rather nicely... AoE blood spell.

I'm not gonna rule Sandal out as a possible candidate for Dumat's reincarnation but I do believe that it's more likely to be Andraste for the timeline fits much better than it would his. What I do know for sure is that the ritual Morrigan had must have been performed before; how else would she know that the ritual would work?

After the fall of the magisters in -395 Ancient (800 TE), the first darkspawn burrowed into Dumat's underground prison, where the Old God was corrupted and transformed into the first archdemon, launching the First Blight. Dumat was finally slain by Grey Wardens at the Battle of Silent Fields in -203 Ancient (992 TE), after almost 200 years of Blight and approximately 1,000 years before the events in Dragon Age: Origins.

Dumat is dead, brah. Slain by Grey Wardens. Wasn't reincarnated. Deader than a fish trying to swim in a cats stomach acid.

Says who? History books?

Do not take anything as 100% truth unless you see it with your own eyes.

Sandal should just be put back in the Deep Roads.
So he can destroy ALL DARKSPAWN, with his lyrium-addled/Old God/blood-magey capabilities.

You know, I wonder something: did Bodhan just decide to call this kid Sandal when he found him? Or did Sandal just... call himself Sandal out of spontaneous, savantic thought?

Sandals are an open type of outdoor footwear, consisting of a sole held to the wearer's foot by straps or thongs passing over the instep and generally, but not always, around the ankle. While the distinction between sandals and other types of footwear can sometimes be blurry (as in the case of huaraches—the woven leather footwear seen in Mexico), the common understanding is that a sandal leaves most or all of the foot exposed. People may choose to wear sandals for several reasons, among them economy (sandals tend to require less material than shoes), comfort in warm weather, and as a fashion choice.

Sandal in Dragon Age is annoying and unfunny, anyone could come up with a simple being that only says 'enchantment'. Seriously, i do not understand how people find him funny.

However, it would be an interesting twist if it was true.

Sandal displayed MASSIVE magical ability at Fort Drakon in his slaughter of a gaggle of Darkspawn.

He is something . . . something important.

When it finally comes out and people say, "I never saw that coming," I'll be wondering how couldn't they see it coming?

EDIT:  DA2 related?  Only if he's in it.  Sooner or later DA2 or 3 he's going to show up.

The fate of the Grey Wardens who fought and slayed the previous archdemons has never been revealed. Kind of funny how all the stories left out the fact that these heroes died along with the Darkspawn. Plus the whole fact that the Grey Wardens knew that the Archdemon essence would continue to jump from Darkspawn to Darkspawn just seems like something they learned the hard way...

Sandal as Dumat?  Sure why not?

Sounds like a Dragon Age spin off: 'Enchantment' starring Sandal the Dwarf, Bodahn Fennic his legal guardian, and Dumat the terrifying Old God. and Dragon of Silence.

'Enchantment', launching in the fall, is Dragon Age's first forray into television and will be a spin on the typical odd couple style of sitcom. Playing out like a mixture of Only Fools and Horses, Porridge and Pinky and the Brain each episode will reveal Dumat's latest plan to escape the confines of his 'cell' and take over the world, while Sandal and Bodahn get involved in a hilarious comedy of errors while trading and adventuring (often involving cameos from the stars of Dragon Age!) which much to Dumat's frustration always inevitably leads to them unintentionally foiling his plans for world domination.

A comedy for all the family, can you really afford to miss Enchantment?

Enchantment!
