Hi all, before i post i would just like to say i have read all the threads about this, i haven't just posted without searching first.
I've recently downloaded and installed the dragon age toolset (1.01 i believe) and... you can guess what the issue is. unable to connect to the database. yep.
i've read a lot of info about this, but nothing seems to work. I was hoping that someone had some more insightful information, or clearer instructions in case i missed something?
i've tried a full manual install as per these instructions, and pretty much everything on this thread, and yet I'm still getting the problem. I'm running windows xp professional SP3.
If anyone could give any advice that'd be great, thanks. I'm really getting frustrated by this <_< there must be a fix, surely?
is there ANY fix for this??

Was the Database installed or restored at all or?

i've tried restoring it multiple times, and reinstalling it. the first time i installed the toolset, when it was trying to install SQL 2005 it came up with a DOS window called SQL, as far as i can recall. it did nothing, and i had to close it via task manager to complete the installation

Well no, my question was if the database was actually "restored".
I think this explains how to find out

happened to me, I managed to repair it like this.
- uninstall toolset
- uninstall SQL database
- delete addins folder in My Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age (ok this step is probably absolutly useless)
- spend few moments in silent prayer
- install toolset with SQL
Also, my favourite troubleshooting wiki page might help you

The installation of the toolset was succesfull? Did you get some error mesages? Do you had SQL Server already installed?

A little bit more information would be useful -
If that doesn't work, right-click the folder where the data files are present (paths are given in the URL linked above) and manually assign Full Control to the SQL Server user -
Right-Click -> Properties -> Security tab -> Add button -> Advanced button in lower left -> select your computer name -> Search without any string.
In the list of users, you should see 3 users with SQLServer in their names and one of them will have BWDAToolset or some such thing. Select this user and give Full Control to the folder where the data files are. Then, try restarting the toolset.
- which OS are you running? If Windows 7, the best option is to install everything using 'Run As Administrator' and install the game/toolset in a location other than Program Files(x86) folder.
- did the toolset install successfully? It usually does but good to know
- did the MS SQL server install successfully? If it did not, the best option is to search the MSDN forums with the error code
- did the database get installed correctly? The simplest check is using the link Eshme pointed to.

ah, just tried what ponozsticka suggested above.the toolset installed, but when it tried to install SQL i get an error
"TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup------------------------------
SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Encryption not supported on the client. Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online."
i suspect that my previous attempts to install/uninstall it may have damaged the registry? praying hasn't helped me so far, neither has crying
thanks for your advice so far, all.
[edit] ah, posted this before seeing timelord's post. will try his suggestion and let you know if that works.
oh, i'm running xp pro sp3 by the way timelord [/edit]

ok, thanks timelord, i just applied the reg hack and SQL installs fine.
now i'm back to square one however- still no joy with the database-
it looks like the database didn't install at all, since i don't have a Program Files/DAODB folder at all. should i now try to do a manual install again?

oh, for the love of...
when i open SQL server management studio express. can't connect to server...
screw this, i'm scrapping my computer, selling my house and going to live in a cave for the rest of my life.
i will try reinstalling management studio, i suppose. if i can't get it working by saturday i'll probably going to install windows 7, wanted to put it off until i get a new hard drive but xp is giving me pc-rage. from what i've heard the problem is less common on windows 7?

ok sorry for coming back to this (and indeed quadruple-posting
) but i don't appear to have any toolset resources.. i'm trying to open up party camp in the cutscene editor (by clicking on the Area box in the lower right) and it brings me into the toolset resources folder, but the only thing there is Char_stage.

You might want to check you have the single player module open to do that. Look under Manage Modules.

Perhaps it didnt restore Biowares Database, but an empty one? Or worse you broke the link with the management stuff?
Have you yet checked for it as i suggested in first post. Best you use Search and on all your harddrives look for that "bw_dragonage_content" stuff since the location is one more problem on non english windows.
I hate repeating myself anyway, thats how it is
