@sheridan--the IGN article said that Ash and Kaid wouldn't be in it. It's still speculation as to whether she was told that outright, if it's a lie, or if that deduction is from simply playing the first bit of DLC.

Bioware was incredibly tightlipped. It was based on what we've already seen. IE: No real evidence.

Fair enough. I'm just worried because the person playing the demo is a Kaidan fan, and I don't know if her answer is based on that small part of the demo, or if she asked Mr. Houston who told her they wouldn't be in it. But for now, the answer still stands that "no, they are not in the DLC."

Believe me, I hope I'm wrong. If I'm wrong and Ashley and Kaidan come gloriously waltzing in sometime during the DLC, I will do a dance for BioWare.

She really needed to be more clear. Now I'm sad. "No I didn't see them in the first mission" is a lot different from "No they are not in the dlc."  Also "no you will not get a chance to resolve the romance" is not the same as "they are not in it at all."  I wish she just could have laid this issue to rest definitively.

Guys, let's accept it: Ash and Kai aren't in Arrival. I think it's pretty obvious by this point. We're just gonna have to wait until ME3.

Over? Did you say over? Nothing is over until we decide it is. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no.

It was the Japanese who bombed Pearl Harbor. In any case, I'm not saying it's over; just that we should focus our support toward ME3 for now and stop thinking we will see Ashley/Kaidan in Arrival, because that's clearly not going to happen.

@ Fiery
Until bioware says yes or no or until someone plays the dlc and says yes or no people will wonder if Ash and Kaidan have a role in this dlc. So people will keep bringing it up until it is officially answered or people find the answer for themselves. So if nothing else tuesday will be the end of that.

I'm still hoping Shepard bumps into the VS in Arrival. There's no way the VS is gonna have a major role but a cameo would be nice. If we get to go to Arcturus station then we might bump into the VS there if not then i guess we'll have to wait for ME3, which isn't far away tbh.

Alright guys so I PM'd Jesse Houston to confirm the whole "the VS has not been forgotten" thing..

Here's what he wrote back...

Totally not forgotten! I cant say more however :(

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly Jesse!  We all needed to hear this today!:D

Hey everyone, this was posted on the Ashley thread. So I think we should still be hopeful that they will be back, whether in a DLC or ME3...

Just dropping these off here. Even if we don't have Arrival, we have hope for ME3:

Thanks Teen! They're lovely! I'll put them in the OP!

@ruden--I appreciate you reposting what Milla PM'd Mr. Houston, but I am disinclined to believe that quote until I see that they *haven't* been forgotten.

I have updated the OP, for those of you who are interested.

Edit:  Maybe I'm reading too much into this.  But I analyzed this segment again:

Lair of the Shadow Broker allowed you to rekindle your romance with Liara. Will Arrival offer the same for the Virmire Survivor (Ashley or Kaidan)?
Unfortunately, no. I'm sad about this, but I hope it means that Kaidan/Ashley's role in Mass Effect 3 is super awesome.

It doesn't say that they're not  in the DLC.  It just says that we can't rekindle the romance with them like in Lair of the Shadow Broker.

*ponders*

I don't know what to believe anymore. You'd think if the answer was "no" they would just tell us. To not officially tell us one way or the other is either a good sign or a form of torture. Argh >< These last few days are the worst wait ever.

I'm probably guessing they won't be in the DLC to be honest =/

I am going to try and be optimistic for a second and say let's wait until Tuesday.

If they aren't in it, then we can rage.

Let's look at the possibilities for this DLC.  I could just be blowing smoke up my ass, but bear with me.

I had deleted some other mission requests when the DLC was announced, but if I recall, it had all the elements that appear in Arrival thus far:
 • to further the plot of the Reapers
 • do with the batarians
 • include the Alliance.
Here's the other requests:
Image IPBHave Kaidan or Ashley rescue Shepard, because Shepard’s rescued them one-too-many-times.  It would also show how both characters have become leaders in their own right.
This could still happen.  Nothing has indicated otherwise.
Image IPBPossibility of Paragon/Renegade interrupts?
No indication, but considering LotSB and Overlord, it's likely.
Image IPBAshley and Kaidan as temporary squadmates (yes, please!)
Jesse Houston said Shepard would be alone.  However, as I recall from the vid, Dr. Kenson helped you in combat.  You couldn't control her talents or anything, and you had to monitor her health.  But she still helped out.  I assume this means that Shepard won't have squaddies he can control, but he might get some helping hands later on. Hopefully.
Image IPBPlease spell your characters' names correctly.
The PS3 patch that was put out fixed Kaidan's name spelling.
Image IPBThe confrontation on Horizon needs to be addressed, and Shepard needs to explain why s/he is with Cerberus.
Image IPBAn emotional reconciliation with Ashley or Kaidan, which is reflected differently as a romance or friendship.  We want a chance to start friendship/romance reparations--just some sort of olive branch for ME3 (like with Liara in LotSB).  Also, we would like it salvageable regardless if we blew up/kept the Collector Base.
Image IPBDiscuss Ash or Kaidan’s pain over Shepard’s disappearance.
Image IPBMany people also want to have the option to choose more emotional dialogue for their Shepard. S/he’s been dead for two years and lost a friend/lover. We would like to see her/his emotional reaction of this loss (and preferably says something more heartfelt and emotional about the issue than, "I got better").
Image IPBKaidan and Ashley are two different characters, and unfortunately are always lumped into one persona: the "Virmire Survivor" (VS); we would like unique dialogue, actions, cutscenes, and abilities that reflects their respective personalities, talents and character growth.

The only thing the IGN article says is that we won't be rekindling the romance like we could with Liara.  It doesn't say they won't be in the DLC.  Not directly.  We expected as such.  If we are able to make progress for the friendship or romance, and we are able to discuss the above, it is what we were hoping for.

If I recall from a lot of previous posts, we weren't expecting a full-blown reunion like Liara had.  Liara knew Shep was dead.  Ash and Kaid didn't.  Plus, with things as they were on Horizon, we expected that there would be some greviances to be addressed, and that while we weren't expecting the romance to be fully rekindled, we were expecting progress.
POSSIBLE NPC CAMEOS?
Image IPBAnderson
Image IPBAdmiral Hackett (at least his voice)
Admiral Hackett is seen in person.  Big win.  Kelly specifically announces a message from "Admiral Anderson."   The person playing the video did not check it out.  Thus, we don't know to what extent Anderson is involved in this.  However, the presence of both is a good sign.

The things that we don't want remain yet to be seen (but hopefully not seen if you know what I mean).

Edited for clarity.

Brody is right. So far everything is speculation. Until it is out and the public can play it for themselves no one can say that 100% for sure that they are or are not in it. Bioware is being extremely tight lipped about it. I'm keeping a sliver of hope alive that they'll be in it in someway.

I don't think the VS got shafted in ME2. If anything, they got a guarantee they'll be in ME3 in a big way. The devs said they kept the VS out of the squad to guarantee the VS a place in ME3. I think ME2 squad survivors have a good chance of coming back (to some degree) in ME3 - but there's only so many variables they can consider. Putting the VS story in concrete in ME2 makes it just that much easier to write them into ME3.

I say rejoice VS fans! ME3 will serve them well.

P.S. I am not saying in any way that they wrote the dialogue well for Horizon - that is another matter entirely. ;)
