I am hoping for a really cool rescue still.

Would love to see Kaidan use his biotics to shatter a bunch of glass into an army of batarians while lifting Shepard out of the way using Pull or something. XD

Would be awesome, almost make me feel bad for not having a prepared playthrough with him in it (currently in progress but that's a big investment).  Would question what Ash could do to compare with that though.  I mean her simply breaking in like Rambo would be cool but Kaidan going Force Unleashed on a bunch of Batarians would be epic.

Respectfully, the devs have put it on public record that they kept the VS out of ME2 squad for ME3 - here's a link where Casey Hudson talks about it.  That's why I don't go with the "so far" part.

Cheers! Posted Image

Yes and I'm not disagreeing with your assessment of ME3 (it makes sense), but the moment you said, "I don't think the VS got shafted in ME2." you limited any possible considerations to ME2.  Had you said "I don't think the VS got shafted..." and then went on with your thoughts as is I'd have had nothing to say, probably would have agreed whole-heartedly, but those two words (ok one word and an acronym) are what I take issue with.

Was the VS shafted in ME (as a trilogy) not at all.  Was the VS shafted in ME2 specifically, oh yes.  I'm willing to accept they were shafted for good reasons, but they were still shafted (within the confines of ME2).

It's interesting - Ashley was pretty set in her views because of her family history, but a sufficiently persuasive Shepard could influence Kaidan's view on non-humans to be either tolerant or xenophobic.

I hope that if the characters are brought back in ME3, we will have the ability to influence Ashley in this way as well. Though it would have to be well written, considering her family's deep-rooted Alliance background.

Neither Kaidan or Ashley were xenophobic, despite what the ME2 website says. There's an explanation of her views on aliens in her official character thread, from her writer himself. She is just apprehensive to trusting aliens so soon after First Contact, of having them in the Alliance Navy's most advanced ship.

My only hope is that the DLC is post Horizon. Maybe it's the optimist in me, but why can it only accessed after that particular mission? Don't try to smash my dreams with logic at this point, it's all just speculation until Tuesday. But still... possible second awkward email? That could be easily written in. A lot of fun from LOTSB came from the dossiers/files and video clips. Did we see that bit coming? NOPE and it was epic, except for the obvious, glaring lack of VS. So here's to hope!!!

What I do know is that the VS and their fans got the short stick in ME2 (so far).

If the VS doesn't show up in Arrival, I know what I'll do with that short stick......
Trust me, it's not going to be pleasant for whomever is on the receiving end! Posted Image

Since Ashley was in the top 3 of my favorite characters (the other two are Wrex and Grunt, I must have a thing for Krogans), I can't imagine why the VS would be hated.
But I'm going to be extremely disappointed if BioWare are catering to the people who don't like them with a  "they're not liked by some of the players, so we're going to downplay and hide their involvement so these players won't be scared off from buying the game" policy.

Is it me or are they cheating the regular voice talent out of appearances in the DLCs?

I didn't pay much attention in Overlord, since they don't do a lot.

But I started to wonder when I played Shadow Broker.
I took Garrus with me because he was "chatty" and was hoping he'd have some conversations with Liara.
Even when addressed by the Shadow Broker, he says nothing at all, which isn't like him!
I would have at least expected a snappy one liner or comeback. Something like:
"So my bounty is still unclaimed? It's going to remain that way, because you're not going to be the one who receives it. But I am willing to compromise, you can have a bullet in the head in lieu of the bounty. I'll even let you choose which eye it enters through."

And now we have a scenario that completely removes squadmates, a solo mission partially done with a temporary squadmember (who probably has the life expectancy of a Star Trek Redshirt).
Remind me to check her back for a target and give her heavy armor before we start.

They do that so they won't have to bring in the voice talent again (if they are done with voice recording in ME3... or haven't started w/e) and pay them extra for coming in again. So, it's quiet squaddies or solo missions. Talk about fail. I took garrus and tali, just to see if liara would mention them or if they would say something... nope. At least Ashley, would acknowledge Garrus (and he would respond) on horizon. Even if it's small like that... that's how the DLC's ought to be done as well. Makes its more .... "immersive" :)

Anyway, all that aside...
I'm pretty sure I won't be getting this DLC until right before ME3, if at all.... since there is almost no chance of the VS being in it. Of course, if I hear that Ashley is in it... I will buy it right away.

If having Admiral Hackett, Ashley, and Kaidan in DLC uses up resources that would've been used in squad banter, I will happily have silent companions and/or no companions. :)

If having Admiral Hackett in it used up resources that would've been used to have Ash/Kai ... then I'll gladly take no Admiral Hackett. lol

Well, you're in luck. It is.

I love how people who keeping naysaying and doomsaying the appearence of the VS always forget this very, very critical piece of evidence.

To be fair there's a lot of things you can't do until after Horizon, it doesn't necessarily mean anything.  Hell you have the option to bring up hunting the Shadow Broker to Liara before you even do any of her little side jobs; timeframe and continuity haven't proven to be much of an issue thus far.  You can, for example, go out and recruit every other squadmate, complete the two DLC loyalty missions, every available N7 mission, and strip mine every planet after hearing that Archangel is pinned down by the mercs and doesn't have much time before coming back to finish it up with no penalty.

While I do remain optimistic that the VS will be in the DLC, if only because nothing official seems to have come from Bioware, I don't think the timing of the DLC is all that relevant.  Technically as a bridging DLC you'd think you wouldn't be able to do it until you completed the game (much like Awakening, Amgarak, and Witch Hunt for DA:O)

I thinkit's because thy'd have to get all the squad mate voice actors back, becuase they have no idea who we'll take with us.  The expense and logistics of doing this really makes it unviable for $7 - $10 dlc.

That's not to say I wasn't disapointed, whenI played LotSB I took Garrus and Tali with me as squad-mates hoping there would be interaction with them and Liara.  I was also hoping that this dlc would be different, because the voice work for it would have been done so close to the work for ME3.  Sadly it looks like that's not the case.

Arrival is now looking much more promising. Didn't a lot of people suggest that a way of starting the DLC would be with Hackett asking a personal favour?

You know, the more I think about it, the more optimistic I am. I fully expect Ash and Kaidan in this now. :)

Edit: watching this video.  Jesse Houston says, to quote, "Shepard is for the most part running solo in this mission."

Much different than, "Shepard is solo for the whole mission."

HOPING. :wizard:

I do, too. In fact, if you talk to Anderson about the VS after Horizon, he'll say they couldn't find any evidence of the Reapers, which is the purpose of Arrival. Kind of gave me some hope.

Unfortunately, I'm the Designated Hope Killer (hides behind Grunt and Wrex).

This does not necessarily mean the VS.
I took it to be a reference to the scientist you're rescuing, who is teamed with Shepherd as a temporary squadmate.

This is going to be my dialogue with Hackett:

"Okay, so if you want me to do you a favor, is Ashley going to be assisting?"
"I'm afraid not Shepherd"
"Call me when she is available. Bye".

I'll still play the DLC though, because I want to know what happens, but if Ashley doesn't appear, it won't be as much fun. Posted Image

And yes, I also took Garrus and Tali to meet Liara.
Nothing.
Even if they can't get the voice talent back, Liara should at least acknowledge their presence in some way.
I mean, the voice actress was being paid for that DLC, so they don't have the defense of not wanting to pay more.

@mewarmo990
@Brodyaha, etc

Any Shepard with a sufficiently high paragon score can turn Ashley into a pro-alien paragon who defends the council for calling us reckless and argues that the human fifth fleet should be sacrificed for the greater good of all races, even with Liara present... who will argue the opposite.

It's up to you to teach her the error of her ways [which is an ingenious piece of game design] and a flat out racist if YOU renegade all her conversation options. Kaidan obviously is the complete opposite. This is what makes these characters IMO the most compelling and promising in the series, which makes BioWare's decision to marginalise them all the more disappointing.

Edit: My theory is that Ashley/Kaidan will never leave the Systems Alliance and the Alliance will never trust Shepard again after being associated with Cerberus so Shepard will be forced to go it alone in ME3 which can only mean that Ash/Kai won't really in all honesty be a part of it. BioWare might call it a "cool" cameo, but everybody else can see that they have been written out of the series.

Hmm just seen the video you linked Brodyaha. Jesse saying stuff like 'really cool surprises' and the fact that when he talks about Shep going solo he almost specifically makes it clear that only the main squad wouldn't be in it yet other 'henchmen will be joining and leaving' in the DLC.

Been sitting on the fence regarding Arrival but with it out tomorrow can't help thinking BioWare have got some pretty awesome surprises that we haven't seen yet at least from that 22 minute video from Giant Bomb.

Well, Bioware won't be getting a dime from me for ME3 then. I will just use my free rental for ME3 when it comes out.

Congrats Bioware on screwing VS fans...again.
