After seeing how masterfully LotSB was done, I would love for them to do a DLC on the VS. Although I think Dave of Canada does have a good point in that for it to be done well it would be very expensive for Bioware. They might not see it as worth the effort, especially if they have something already in mind for them in ME3.

Also new casual clothes would be cool, but jeans/hoodie would be pretty silly.

I'm not against the idea of a VS DLC, I'm very much for it (considering how my "canon" Shepard is with Ashley) but it just feels different. The difference between those listen characters is they don't have many variations to those lines, Marian always has like.. 6-7 lines and Feron's conversation always plays out the same with unknown (unknown as in, they didn't need to cast that ONE specific person) voice actors. Ashley and Kaidan have a lot more lines they'd need to deliver, they would need to cover story (Such as the mention of the Collector base and such), romances, gender changes (maleShep with Kaidan for example), explore friendship possiblities and such.

While they managed to pull it off with Liara, Kaidan / Ashley have a problem themselves and that the reason being they'd need to bring back two voice actors instead of one. This includes how they'd need to wrangle the specific voice actors for every single language too (French Kaidan / French Ashley, ect ect) this would mean over a large handful of voice actors to cover a single role in the DLC.

I don't want to go into ME3 on bad terms with Kaidan / Ash but I'm expecting they are going to do it that way.

I understand what you mean, and it's unfortunate that Kaidan and Ashley, as characters, have that development hurdle.

At the same time, they could allocate their budgets and save money in other areas of the game.

A lot of people are unhappy that instead of the foils Kaidan and Ashley originally were, that they became this "Virmire Survivor," entity that automatically assumes they are placeholders for each other.  A couple of pages ago, I asked what the most important feature people would want in this DLC, and many said separate character development.

So, if that's what people want, then BioWare doesn't need to waste resources making new enemies and characters.  Heck, many people want to see Anderson and Hackett again, already established characters in the ME universe.  (I'm pretty sure if the only characters in the DLC were Ashley, Kaidan, Shepard, Anderson, and Hackett,  just fleshed out more, many would be happy).

People also said that they understand the extra financial hurdle BW has with these characters, so they wouldn't mind the same mission offered for both Ashley and Kaidan--just with different character development.

It can be done, it's a matter of money management.

Hopefully the Shadow Broker DLC sells well (even though that sort of Liara content SHOULD have been in the core game...). It would reassure Bioware that effort put into these sorts of "plot heavy" expansions pays off. Which in turn would make it easier for them to commit to, say, a plot heavy VS/Alliance DLC.

At least the feedback so far is stellar. The most united front I've ever seen this fanbase in. Practically everyone seems to think LotSB was just aces, even us nasssty ME2 critics. Image IPB

1. Continuation of romance with Ashley/Kaidan.

2. Ashley/Kaidan comments on the relationships that Shepard has.

3. Other references to Shepard's romance.

4. A friendship path with Ashley/Kaidan.

5. Dialog or insight from the squad mates.

6. An excellent DLC.

Yeah I'd really support that stance. I don't know about you guys, but frankly speaking the crew members I enjoyed the most in ME2 were... Garrus and Tali. The others were OK, but with those two it really felt like it was my story, continiuing from the first game and still I felt that the fact that it's a _continuing_ story was underrepresented. It turns out the parts of ME I like the most are bound to characters and relationships with them, not neccessarily (or maybe - 'not exclusively') the heroic, giant storyline thats about saving the galaxy - and potentially noone I really care about.

On the other hand - including only Ash/Kaidan, Hackett, Shepard and Anderson means including two main character voice actors, two VA's for Ash/Kaidan aaand... Lance Henrikssen and Keith David;) I don't think they are neccessarily cheaper than well performed, but still generic actors for Feron/Shadow Broker/the Asari;)

It's just a matter of balancing the need to bring new characters to the franchise (I can understand that stance - that way both existing and new fans are on the same page as far as story goes) with satisfying those people who love already existing characters. After all the characters are the story (at least for me), as far as ME goes. As you say, it really is a shame that the combinatorial consequences of Virmire choice and subsequent exponential growth of dev resources make it so difficult to meaningfully include Ash/Kaidan.

Again though - I fully agre with this statement:

It can be done, it's a matter of money management.

I'd also like to add something:

7.  Separate personality and character development for both Ashley and Kaidan.

^ i liked how the dealt with that in LotSB - Liara says what Joker said to her, and it's different for romanced maleshep, romanced femshep, and non-romanced male or femshep. it gave the hint of liara talking to everyone and catching up without actually having to show it, record the voices, or deal with the did-tali-and-garrus-make-it? question.

imagination can supply a lot. i don't think a full "blah blah blah" is needed in every case. LotSB proved that a few well-placed lines of dialog amid myriad explosions and two awesome bosses really goes a long way to developing character.

QFT.  A little acknowledgement is all I would want.  It's not absolutely necessary to have in-depth conversations with all of the crew.

I would certainly hope that BioWare, if they are making this DLC, don't rush it.  I've heard less than good things about Witch Hunt.

I know LotSB was announced only a month before it's release date, so maybe BioWare has already been in production for this, and they'll announce DLC close to the release date.

But I think a Mass Effect 3 announcement is coming in October (rumors circulating, anyway).  So we might be waiting awhile for any DLC.  Which I'm fine about, if the end result is something phenomenal like LotSB.

My biggest problem with Kaidan and Ashley is that they are both used interchangeably and that a DLC using both would either have less dialogue or cost more to balance the need to recruit back the two voice actors for every single language that ME is made for. Then the mission wouldn't be personal to Kaidan / Ashley because they have to be in the same mission, saying the same thing as the other would and such.

It makes me sad that Ashley / Kaidan are essentially throwaways.

Did they make LotSB in different languages? Or just subtitled it?

Maybe they can use subtitles?

Not all of them - eg in Poland this DLC is not available with local edition of the game (lucky I bought it off Steam).

I didn't say all of them. It was translated and VA was done for major languages, i.e. German.

That's true, Brodya. We don't want dialog that's exactly the same for Ashley and Kaidan. They did this in ME1 and ME2 and it should really stop. They're supposed to be foils for each other. Not the same person.

They didn't do it in ME1. Their roles kind of ran parallel but they were very different characters. In ME2 they were carbon copies of one another, no matter how brilliant their voice actors are.

Unless I'm mistaken, I have to disagree. I heard that before the Normandy lands on Ilos, Kaidan and Ashley have the exact same dialog.

They have a similar scene, different dialogue.  Are you talking about the love scene or the "there is no other landing zone!" scene?

Other landing zone. Admittedly I've never not had Kaidan alive - so I'm only relying on hearsay. I could very well be wrong.

Kaidan and Ashley both share lines in the, "There is no other landing zone!"  scene, but it's in different VAs and tones (of course).

I understand that, should there be a DLC and both can participate in the same mission, that some dialogue will be the same or similar, as it was with "there is no other landing zone!"  part, along with certain aspects of the Virmire mission.  Those kinds of parallels, I can expect.

But when I was talking with them on the ship in ME1, that's when their true identities showed.  And just after Eden Prime, when we were at the Citadel and they were bantering between each other and had different quips and Kaidan as giving Ashley advice....it was awesome.

I expect quite a bit of different dialogue, powers, and cutscenes (Ashley = guns, Kaidan, = biotics), and different VA tones for each character to show the world that they are different, and to satisfy the fans who love both and don't want them melded into the same character.

Part of it's just that I had a hard time believing that Kaidan would freak out before landing on Ilos. I would imagine him to be calmer, and Ashley to be the one who is yelling.

Yeah those lines are the same, but they're not anything more than exposition lines anyway so it doesn't matter. Could have easily been Tali or Garrus that said the same thing. It wasn't character specific.

But Kaidan was much calmer than Ash I think.
