By the way, I like that idea Avalon.

Could just say that EDI just realized that Cerberus had blocks on the ship that prevented Shepard from replying to Kaidan or Ashley's email, but now she lifted them.
I could imagine her making a reply in her cabin and either getting sorrowful or angry.
And I love the idea of Shepard talking out loud to herself as she's typing a reply.

I was wondering if anyone would agree to allow options for either Shepard to voice their interest in either Ashley or Kaiden.
Absolutely.

Your email idea should've been in ME2 in the first place, avalon.

Brody, I like that idea about the Cerberus blocks. It could even be that Shepard had written an original reply and didn't know that it never went through. I could see TIM doing something like that.

That's a good idea, Brody. It'd explain the lack of a reply-button.

I got to hug Tali and Liara, Ashley has to be next!
No Garrus or Wrex hugs yet.
Although that would have to be unlinked to Romance, because my Shepherd is female and didn't Romance anyone.
Although that still didn't stop the above mentioned platonic hugging.
It would be interesting to play with Anderson.
I've never seen him in combat and that would be fun to see.
Even more fun if I finally get to meet Kahlee.
Don't misinterpret this, but to me, it seems Dragon Age gets "more" then Mass Effect.
For example, there's a toolset for creating levels, you can upload achievements and characters to this site.
Can you do any of those things with Mass Effect 2?
Of course not!

I can't see any hugs, platonic or otherwise, coming from Wrex. Maybe a manly headbut or something...
Really? I swear he gave me a bro-hug to both sexes of Shep on Tuchanka. I guess that's the krogan equivalent instead of an enveloping hug. And headbutts are for insolence. I saw Wrex give one to Gavorn, and my Shep gave one to Gavorn as well on a paragon/renegade interrupt.
I kind of wish my ManShep had gotten a hug from Kaidan on Horizon, instead of a handshake.
That seems too informal.
So, I hope this isn't a stupid question, but it was on my mind, and I'll ask, in the hopes that I'm not opening a can of worms:
I know in the FemShep thread they're discussing how there should be different game mechanics for FemShep vs ManShep.
What would you guys think of different hug mechanics, if it should it be in DLC? Should only ManShep get a bro-hug with Kaidan? Should a friendly FemShep be able to give a bro-hug, or just enveloping ones? Or should friends get the bro-hug, and romances get the enveloping hug we got on Horizon?

Really? I don't remember that, huh. Still it's been a while since I played ME1. I stand corrected.

Friends = brohug
Romances = proper, longer hug. It'd actually be nice to see Shepard have/give a hug that lasted more than a couple of seconds. They always look like he's only "going through the motions", rather than being momentarily lost in the moment, as it were.

I agree, Phobius. Something a bit more heartfelt would be nice, Kaidan and Ash - romanced or not - have been with you from the very start after all.

brodyha + chignon you seem to own this thread so ill aim this at you. what do you think of the idea that after we reply to ask/kaid's message we see them reading it and replying with tears or something along them lines. what you guys think ?
I'm neither brody nor chignon, but I love the idea of getting to see the reading and reaction... I don't see tears personally, but something equally touching if the message is one that would continue the romance...

Well, I don't own this thread - technically Brody's the "owner".
I'd prefer Shepard and Kaidan talking face to face, to be honest.
Maybe we could write this letter at the start of the DLC, then comes the mission with Kaidan/Ash and then they talk. The message Shepard wrote could be one of the things they talk about.

All those ideas on the OP are summarized ideas from all the contributors/supporters in this thread.
And I happen to lurk in this thread a lot; I subsequently post and reply a lot too.
On another topic, I'm all for more emotion--not necessarily emotional break downs, but emotional break downs if necessary. A few tears here and there, or just hearing emotion in the voices.
That's how I envision an emotional reunion scene with Kaid and Ash.
If they tear up over the email, I wouldn't mind.
That's just IMO.

I agree. One of the downsides of ME2 was Shepard's apparent lack of emotions. It doesn't have to be something huge, but Shepard acting like a normal human being could be a start.

Shepard: "I got better."
.............yeah, is that a human response? Or is it the cybernetics talking? :S
No offense to BioWare, ME2 got me into the ME obsession (despite playing ME1 before and thinking it was awesome, for some reason ME2 was my trigger), but I would prefer Shepard to express more reaction to being dead.
And really, I also think it's an awesome, sarcastic line, but I would prefer to have heard it after Shepard expressed more trauma, IMO.

I agree with both of you.
You know which line I hate even more? When Shepard meets up with Joker - Joker, who is at least partly responsible for her death - for the first time and goes something like "I got lucky. There were a lot of strings attached.".
That is not a believeable reaction. Not in the slightest.
I don't want to see the Brick!Shepard of ME2 ever again, not in a VS DLC and not in ME3. I want the human Shepard from LotSB.

Personally I think just making an emotional response a conversation option, rather than the default response is the way forward, but I guess that might be more work than Bioware is willing to invest. Who knows? Hopefully LotSB sees a change in direction for Bioware and ME3, but part of me just wonders whether its lip-service for those who wanted a bit more depth for the character in ME2.
