You are right, Phobius, but there is a difference between absolutely no emotional response to a traumatic event (i.e. Shepard's death or even to some extent the Horizon encounter) and making Shepard someone any player can identify with on some level, a "blank" slate so to speak .

I think LotSB did a fantastic job at that - it was emotional without being over the top or being "forced" onto the player and as I said a thousand times now, I hope this development will continue in a possible VS DLC.

I remember with FemShep I loved the way she said, "It's been two years? I've been gone that long?" In the shuttle to see TIM after escaping Lazarus Station.

That wasn't over the top. She didn't break down in front of Miranda and Jacob asking, "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH KAIDAN AND MY CREW?!" *cry cry cry cry*

But the tone of her voice indicated her confusion and pain.

I would've liked to see more of that.

There was a return to that in LotSB, like Chignon said (spoilers ahead).

You can reply, "I'm frustrated," and Shepard can express her frustration at being roped into working with Cerberus, and the danger they put her in, and the fact that she's dead but people don't believe her.

Also, I loved the way Meer and Hale said, "Come back soon, Liara."

Yes, It's just a shame it only come up once or twice very early in the game and then only in front of Miranda and Jacob.

That was a really nice touch, just like the preceding conversation options ranging from tired, hopeful to frustrated. Great work. Please, Bioware, more of that in a possible VS DLC!

I guess the problem is that they can't make Shepard too emotional, as he/she has to appeal to as broad a spectrum of players as possible. I guess bioware figure that Shallow Shepard is more appealing to more people than emtional Shepard. Emotion is subjective, whilst there are obviously a lot of people who'd enjoy that (me included) there are also those who would find it stupid, distracting or otherwise not how "their shepard" reacts.

Personally I think just making an emotional response a conversation option, rather than the default response is the way forward, but I guess that might be more work than Bioware is willing to invest. Who knows? Hopefully LotSB sees a change in direction for Bioware and ME3, but part of me just wonders whether its lip-service for those who wanted a bit more depth for the character in ME2.

I really want to see what they gonna do in DA2. It was told that they implement some system where you can choose not only what your PC says, but the tone of the answer too. Probably there can be something like this for ME3?

Yeah, this was what made the latter half of LotSB so good for me. That, and the previous conversation with Liara. That one sentance really made me see how lonely Shepard is. I loved the way the camera pans out with him sat on his bed, looking so tired and lonely, In fact that one sentance had more emotion in it than most of ME2, to be honest.

As I said, hopefully this is what we'll see more of in ME3.

Unlikely I'd have thought. Bioware have already said they'll be using the same engine as ME2, with minimal tweaks, for ME3. I'm no expert, but what you're saying sounds like too much of a over-haul to implement. I know the engine for DA1 is different than for DA2.

It also would have been a bit unlikely for Bioware to introduce such a change in a possible VS DLC, in my opinion.

Maybe I keep changing my opinion, but when I reflect back on ME2, some of the paragon/renegade interrupts had increased emotions in them. I really enjoyed them. Warning SIdonis, or telling off the C-Sec officer and volus in Zakera Ward was pretty fun. I wouldn't mind more paragon/renegade interrupts to have the option to show increased emotion. And then it'd be optional. Those who want a more emotional Shepard can have him/her, and those who want a stoic one can just ignore them.

I really support these interrupts during conversation. I loved that in LotSB - I was actually so surprised by them when I first played it that I missed one or two, but I'm really loving them. (:

So a question for everybody: what kind of interrupts would you like to see?

Would you prefer only Paragon interrupts, like in LotSB? Or would you also want Renegade interrupts - not necessarily violent, but maybe more "aggressive" ones like cutting Ash or Kaidan off mid-sentence and start a mini rant yourself?

I think if they're going to give you the option of healing the wounds of Horizon it's only fair that they give you the other option.  The option to end things completely.

I don't tend to use Renegade interrupts on my friends (although my enemies get the Renegade punch).

As for me, I'm going to do my best to hug and make up, because I want to be on good terms with Ashley for ME3.

Plus, that sends the "I'm a bigger person then you" message. The VS may think we're a traitor, but because they're confused about my loyalties doesn't mean it's a two way street.

Sortof like "You need help? I'll be there! No questions asked".

I think it the option to have renegade responses would work as well.

It would be more work on BioWare's part, but it would also be more rewarding.

Some people (okay, A TON) of people have weaved stories about their Shepards into their heads--personalities, choices, story points, etc--and some would likely want to go on mini rants like Chignon said. But that would be more of a renegade interrupt.

I would love to have both choices. I could see a renegade rant being something like, "Garrus and Tali were willing to join me to stop the Reapers! You and the Alliance abandoned me! Yada yada yada....."

And although I subjectively agree with how Kaidan and Ashley react on Horizon (which I won't reiterate here for space sake), some of my Shepards wouldn't agree with me.  I would be interested in both reactions.  Likewise, some of my Shepards would just want to hug Kaidan or Ashley and go, "I'm not a Cerberus traitor!"

Maybe the option for a paragon and renegade interrupt would come up at the same time if Kaidan and Ashley are discussing Horizon.  People can choose either response.

But they need to be on the screen for longer.  The ones in LotSB were so quick.

I may not use them personally but I think your right.  The option to rebut "negativtly" given the way things on Horizon were said, you might feel anger and "set the record straight" to your ally/LI

A rant could also start a mini-argument between them, and having to choose Shepard's replies back and forth.. Remember how Shepard could keep pressing Mordin about the genophage on his LM? The same could be for an argument between Shep, Ash, and Kaid.

Yes!

This was one of the things the Liara fandom wished for, that didn't end up in LotSB (unlike kvetching about the hacking missions, a "shut up kiss" interrupt, asking whether her and Feron were an item etc.)

My original idea in one early angry Liara thread was something like Shepard losing it over Liara's coldness and smashing her desk with her enchanced strength, or smashing something in her office. Just our of frustration. And then yelling at her (partly in anger, partly in anguish).

Would be great if the VS DLC got the chance for this. Even better if this doesn't cow the VS, but escalates into a shouting match, which then clears the air and leaves both slightly out of breath. Of course, heading now into blatant fanservice territory, they might follow up this breathless moment by a Paragon interrupt. Just something small, like Shepard smiling (which would cause the VS to look relieved, etc.) C'mon Bioware, you were so proud of that Ash/Kaidan look of relief or anguish after Eden Prime! Do it! A smile interrupt, with perhaps a face caress included if your Shep is in romance with the VS? Posted Image

I like the Garrus and Tali idea. A lot of people have an issue with that situation - myself not included- and it would be great to see it addressed in the form of a Renegade interrupt for them.
The Paragon one is also very good - I just wanted to suggest that one myself, Brody!

This. When I played it for the first time, I missed one or two interrupts during Liara's conversation.

I believe the paragon/renegade interrupts would be better than having the paragon/renegade dialogue options that usually occur on the left-hand side of the dialogue wheel.

From what I remember reading in a separate thread on this forum, the paragon/renegade system in ME2 tends to go with how many points you've accumulated, as well as 'missed opportunities,' so to speak, so it would be disappointing for some who want a certain reply for their Shep, but can't because they don't have enough paragon/renegade points.

I agree, Brody. I play a Renagon Shepard and this can get quite disappointing at times.
