Yeah, when I read the "important characters" bit I wondered why they also apparently wanted people to hate them.  :crying:

Is it that they really wanted people to hate them, or they simply didn't want them to wait for them?

If Kaidan and Ashley had gone missing after Horizon, it would have pressed Shepard to save them, thus making them the princess in another castle type deal. most VS romancing sheps would have spent the game going after them, not tempted to move on to another LI, and new people would have been confused who they were saving and why. and if kaidan/ash had randomly survived (unlike lilith), that would have been a pretty big hindrance to the end game pacing.

i really think the writers were trying to take the VS friendship/romance from 100% (or 50%, or whatever) down to 0 - kind of like how they made shep over again, putting shep back at square 1 for just about everything in the game (credibility, team, spectre status, etc.). again, the writing there might be to blame, but i really don't see the point being to make people hate ash/kaidan, just start over with them again.

i'm just wondering how much "starting over" time we're going to get and when.

sadly, I don't think it's gonna happen. I'll be surprised if they get anything more than a cameo in ME3... "Important characters" my ass. :(

This is my one of my scariest nightmare in which I'm too afraid to speak of :pinched: The thought of it just makes me wanna scream, arrghhhhh,,,,, :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

Anyway, should this dlc ever happen I'd like to have an 'optional mission' to re-visit the SR1 crash site with the VS and have some touching dialogue between them. It will be a good chance to tell the VS that, "Yes, I may have a shiny new frigate now, but the SR1 and her crew means a lot to me and will never be forgotten."

I think they left us hanging in ME2 when it comes to Kaidan/Ashley because of the PS3 version coming out. I really really want VS DLC but I wonder if they will wait to reintroduce them in ME3 where the PS3 players will be able to establish a relationship with them, whether it's friendly or romantic. But it would be really nice for those of us that have come to love them to at least be able to do some kind of mission with them. I think they owe us ME1 owners some kind of bridging content with our favorite love interests or good friends and a chance to set things right with them.

I don't care. I'm selfish... I want my Ashley!

They could leave out all the squadmates from ME2 and bring back just Ashley... and I would buy the damn game. lmao

I find it difficult to properly phrase my opinion on the matter.

Really, I don't think they put too much thought into it, but even then I don't think we're supposed to take Kaidan and Ashley's side on Horizon.  At all.  Not even half way.

And I think their part of the story is going to be half-assed come ME3.  Maybe not!  Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised!  But as it stands, I'm getting a certain feeling out of the interviews and the proceedings that makes me very leery of the whole thing.

Good analysis, I think you are right.  Writers wanted people to brach out / be tempted to not stay faithful AND wanted new players to not be confused.  I might not like it, but I think the writers did the right thing - now all we need is some DLC to resolve the issue.

I get that same feeling... and I honestly don't think bioware did it to make us wanna cheat or for pacing or w/e. They only did it b/c they didn't want to confuse the newbies, that way they can get teh monies!

IMO, you shouldn't be playing ME2 if you haven't played ME1. Let them be confused and give the players who played the first game what they want! If they don't wanna be confused, go buy ME1!!! Hey, more money that way too! :P

Maybe it wasn't intentional on Bioware's part. But the lack of care they put into Ash and Kaidan's characters is unbelieveable and certainly didn't help the matter. Saying that they wanted to "save" them for ME3 and their "integral role" in it or they wanted to "tempt people away from their original LI" doesn't justify the treatment of two important characters from the first game.

Does saving/creating tension now equal to getting some half-assed four minutes cameo?

And I must agree with Fire. I'm not too hopeful for ME3, but the least we can do is show our love and support for Ash and Kaidan.

Not sure that on previous page I explained correctly, so this is another attempt:

Fitst meeting - on Citadel, with insults and scandal. "I'm moving on important mission, goodbye, traitor".
VS, without chance on second talk, is taken from Horizon by Collectors. Then on Collectors ship we face similar to Collectors base pod (on the place there several corpses are discussable with squad now) with VS inside. Independent on our previous decisions, VS is turned into goo.
Don't think many people will stay loyal after this. New players are not confused, old players are looking for new LI. No hopes, no need even in cameo. Darkest horror for me.
So if it wasn't so, I expect VS having any role in either future DLC or ME3. Strongly hope on important role.

I gotta say, even if there isn't a DLC that focuses on them, its very likely we see them again. I can't honestly believe Bioware is proud of Horizon, and are going to leave them off at that until ME3 comes out. I know that ME3 is a long way off but I have my doubts about Bioware bringing out a DLC for Kaidan/Ash. I wonder where Bioware got the idea that gamers didn't like Kaidan/Ash enough for them to be left out of DLC and for Liara to get her own. Hmm. I prefer Kaidan/Ash over Liara.

Btw what happened to ashley. I'm pretty sure she got stung by a bug and should have been taken to the collector ship.

I never saw her frozen body when rescuing the colony.

Actually, my personal opinion is that Ashley is so tough, little bug bites don't bother her.

Pretty much everyone stung by the bugs was instantly paralyzed.
What does Ashley do?
Pull it off and look at it.

But realistically, she was the only one in full combat armor, not civies.
Maybe the bug's stinger couldn't penetrate her armor.

I imagine when the Collectors started roaming around looking for victims, Ashley was killing them when they met up.

I would have loved to see that:

Harbinger (possessing Collector): It is pointless to resist us!
Boom!!!!
Ashley: Resist that you bastard!

Given the strong showing of loyalty towards the VS, I think Bioware are going to have to face the "Wrath of the Fans" if they don't do something meaningful with them, either via DLC or in Mass Effect 3.

*puppy dog eyes*
VS for squadmate in ME3, pretty pretty please?

It's been a while since the release of LOTSB, the last of any kind of official DLC statement, so I'm expecting BW to give us a little tease pretty soon, even if it is only like one or two in-game pics. Imagine the forums flaring up just speculating one obscure photo with the caption "Pic from new DLC" , and nothing else.

This is what makes me think that either: the writers weren't putting too much effort into narrative consistency for the Horizon scene OR the Alliance is up to something tricky, perhaps testing out their own anti-venom formula that works against the collector stasis thing...

I don't know. I'd say the odds may be in our favor that the DLC will be released. People were shouting at the mountain tops for the Liara DLC and look and behold it happened. The Virmire Survivor DLC has been requested A LOT, seen quite a bit of support for it, and the support group has lots of members and counting! I would be surprised if they DIDN'T do it. Posted Image

Considering Ash's reaction to finding out that Shepard works for Cerberus ("I'm no fan of aliens"-line), I'd go with that. Posted Image

I honestly think Bioware purposefully left us hanging with Ashley and Kaidan on Horizon so they can pave the way for DLC, exactly like how they did with Liara.

Liara fans were pissed at how little we got of her, and boom, nice plot centered around her in the DLC. Bioware said Liara and Ash/Kaidan(whichever survived) play an important role the ME universe, hence why they have to survive.

This seriously makes me think DLC was planned for Ash and Kaidan since the beginning like Liara. Think about it, it would be a waste of time to just start ME3 with Ash/Kaidan still MIA and having to reconcile, etc etc. See how Liara is all ready to go when ME3 rolls around, exactly what they'll do with Ashley and Kaidan. Watch, they'll make a plot centric mission that deeply involves the Virmire survivor in some way. After the mission's done, Shep and VS make up, and all ready to go for ME3.

Ashley was up there with in my top two (the other was Wrex) squadmates.

Garrus and Tali are the next two favorites.

And Liara, while interesting, was last on my list.

And she got the DLC!

Go figure.......

As you all know you have the "opportunity" to cheat on Ash or Kaidan with one of the ME2 LIs.

Would you want to see this addressed by Ash and Kaidan in the DLC or not? Would you like it to be handled the same way as it was in LotSB?
