I'm sure this has been asked millions of times but which is better for the Vanguard? I know shotgun is the primary weapon for them but the accuracy and distance is horrid. I do like using pistols since there accurate but aren't the greatest in the power department. Do shotguns get more accurate as you progress or do they continue to suck in the accuaracy department?

P.S. This is my first playthrough/post sorry for the noobness :)

Shotguns do kinda get more accurate, though ultimately they're still more of a close-range weapons. I still personally prefer them over pistols though, but that may be because I've had enough of pistol usage on my Infiltrator run.

Besides, if you're not going to use a shotgun as a Vanguard, you might as well play an Adept instead.

Actually, (later on) the pistol becomes the strongest gun in the game (at least dps wise). And in Mass Effect 1, (once you get the spectre weapons) the shotgun has ridiculous range for a shotgun, so i guess it's personal preference. I myself uses shotguns because when I think Vangaurd, I think shotguns.

The shotgun does more "burst" damage. It's useful when you need to quickly kill the enemy because he's bearing down on you fast. The pistol does more sustained damage by end game, it is a more versatile and reliable weapon at any range.

For vanguards, three options:

All pistol, no shotgun. This is enough for most caster vanguards, and if you focus on biotics. It leaves you more points to max out biotic talents. You can kill any enemy in the game with pistols, and you can play the game from start to finish with pistols.

6 in pistol, 12 shotgun, this is for close quarters combat vanguards. Your pistol is still a decent for general use, but you will suffer during long range fights, notably against turrets, armatures and thresher maws.

12pistol/12shotgun: the ultimate in versatility. You will loose one biotic talent line if you do this.

Shotguns are most useful on the mian missions (moostly at a short distance) whereas the pistol becomes more useful on the final level and on side-missions. You may want to use the infinite money glitch

Level them equally. As the Shotgun skill and your guns quality (read other Shotguns are at hands) increases, you can use them to actually snipe across most distances except longrange (which you will encounter only on UNC:Missions) and deals massive damage. Actually you can run trough your playthroughs only with shotguns quite easily. Powerful one-shot weapons with knockdown effect (heaven against Thorians and Husks).

The pistols on the other hand get the single most damaging weapons DPS-wise as you progress in skilling and getting better models. With the right setup, you can fire those pistols nonstop without fearing overheat and Master Marksman makes your pistol better than Assault Rifles in every way, except maybe sound.

Maxing both grants you a powerful one-shot weapon to fling opponents off their feet effective in almost every fighting range and non-stop rain of bullets should you just need to build a wall of death between you and your foes.

Why exploit a maybe-existing glitch if you will get essentially unlimited money halfway through the game?

Limitations in the first half is at least half the fun of said part. Do the Collector!

Considering how overpowered the SG's are, go with those.

It is Adrenaline Burst, not shotguns, that define the ME1 Vanguard.

If you're really interested in the weapons math check out this thread.  http://meforums.biow...forum=123&sp=90

One thing to watch out for with a Shotty vanguard is the fact that carnage will cancel barrier if barrier not taken to master level.  It's not unmanagable,  but it is something to be aware of.

The infinite glitches (money or xp) are only really useful on the 360, if you're playing on the PC you might as well fire up the console and just give yourself the money or xp, if you are so inclined.

Shotguns are pretty good.  The carnage ability is nice.  If you double up on barrier that can help you close the gap while being protected.

Edit: for me being dumb in my postPosted Image

Pistols in ME 1 are the most powerful.

But really, comes a point when it doesn't make any difference, You're bloody powerful anyway, and the difference is not that visible.

As a Vanguard in ME1, I couldn't see miself take pistols.
