Thank you, Siansonea II for your logical and unbiased input, but unfortunately, these boards appear to be dominated by prudes and over-sexed goons who cannot listen to reason and share an illogical hatred for Samara's cleavage.

Here's what I'm seeing...

oversexdprude777: "hurr she needz armor & bewbiez r bad!11"

Me & you: "Uh, yeah... She's got biotic barriers and no, breasts aren't bad."

oversexdprude778: "hurr she needz armor & bewbiez r bad!11"

Me & you: "Didn't you read the last post? We've already covered this..."

oversexdprude779: "hurr she needz armor & bewbiez r bad!11"

I see some things never change...

Yep, it's the "Nudity for ME3!" thread all over again...

I like that she has boobs and isn't scared to show them off tho they are very fake looking with how they always stand exactly the same etc (like silicone) I guess that's just laziness or prudishness from bioware rather than them trying to imply she has fakies. :P

From a girl. :P

Yeah, but if they had've put more work in then you'd have prudes complaining about the breast physics.

"OMG wut iz dis DOA?!11"

It seems like the Mass Effect Fanbase on this particular site cannot be satisfied and will always find something to complain about...
I still can't wait to see what people say if/when Bioware unmasks Tali.
If they make her pretty, then all the anti-Tali people will be "OMG she wldnt lewk liek dat!11" and if she's ugly then all the Talimancers will be "WTF she isnt az beutiful az i imagined!11"

depends. If EA/BIoware, with a paid DLC that adds quitea  bit to do for 560... besides the shadow broker, and a free DLC... more armors or weapons, free... then I'll take the 10 bucks off the Las Vegas Reserve.

So if EA comes up with a good 560 dlc, and a SUPER GOOD, free DLC, I wont get vegas.... if not then, I will, 10 dollars are better spent playing a bethesda DLC than a BIoware DLC anyday.

How did this thread become about nudity?

The complaints against Samaras cleavage are simple:

1) The strongest female character forced into an oversexualised outfit that many feel does not suit her character.

2) The absolute joke this game makes of armour, and the need for it to actually protect. Be it against bullets or hostile environments.

I have nothing against cleavage (what hot blooded guy does?) or sexy characters, which is why i am not complaining about Miranda (a hypersexualised outfit suits her mindset). Or against Samara, i just feel we are getting way too close to the sci fi equivalent of chainmail bikinis.

I am sick of every character in every game being pure fanservice/eyecandy, no matter her actual character.

1) Many feel it does.

2) Why jedis don't wear armor?

Still, just a simple optional 3rd costume would solve this. Hoping ME3 has casual, formal and armor for everyone

1. Those that do are either justifying it so they dont feel bad for staring at pixel boobies or using a convoluted stream of assumptions about asari standards and culture as a flimsy justification which doesnt hold against the fact that her costume was designed by a human team with western human values for a human audience with western human values.

2. Jedi dont wear armour because they use thinly disguised magic to gain vauge impressions of the future so they can block incoming blaster fire with their lightsaber. Samara has neither. Besides, can we please not ape Star Wars?

MEH...   Not everyone gets a flaming boner over cleavage :/ - maybe you do, and you have jesus issues about it (I don't know), but not all of us have the same sense of sexuality...  First thought I had when I saw Samara was that she looked badass and nothing else.   And we're not the ones making assumptions about their standards, we're actually saying you can't make assumptions precisely because they're an alien culture.

And why should an american author who creates a new world restrict the standards and values of new species to american ones (same goes for an author anywhere)? That's very limiting on creative freedom, it's very boring and as far as speculative sci-fi goes, very unrealistic (look at our own species).

P.s. I wonder how you'd react if you visited a Dutch beach during summer...

Actually, i am an atheist and have nothing against nudity.

Although its really nice that the opposite side of this argument keeps making such lovely assumptions.

Any argument about it being a different culture stops working when you embrace reality and face the fact that these characters where desinged by people. You know, the human kind. To be experienced by humans. Her armour is desinged to make a provoke a certain response from the human audience. And no, i dont get a "flamimg boner", i simply sigh, and roll my eyes at the fsct that every female squadmate must be sexualised with fanservice armour, except for Tali, whose character got retconned as fanservice, so she might as well count.

Hey, to be fair, I never claimed to know what faith you have, but letting you know that not all of us have the same reaction as each other towards things like this.  You were the one assuming otherwise.  If you were to ask me to honestly tell you what my reaction was when I saw Samara, I can only tell you what that reaction was.

By the way, we have always agreed on the fact that when they designed her suit, that they were probably trying to make her look a bit sexy (I don't know if you've ever noticed me saying that throughout this thread - and your poll, incidentally :/ ).  That's something we can all appreciate within the context of reality.  But imagining yourself as a person in the ME world, the different culture argument holds just fine ;)  I can hold both those views and see the distinction between the two - but for you it's "convoluted", which to me implies you just don't "get" it *shrugs*.

By the way what about Femshep's armor?  It just seems to me that you don't like that there's a species in the ME world that has a sense of sexuality that's controversial to another one...  That's how it is within our own species in this world - so when creating a fictional world, why not draw inspiration from that?  I'm curious what you think of the comment I made about an author's creative freedom in this regard.

All I'm seeing in the Alternate Appearance Pack Suggestion Thread is how Samara needs to be "covered up"
That actually offends me a little... I mean, what, are breasts suddenly so unsightly that they must be covered up at all costs? Yeesh, no wonder ME2's sex scenes were toned down. If Samara's cleavage has offended so many people then Liara's side-boob must've brought these boards to it's knees.

I'm just going to skip over 9 pages of thread to jump in here because I was one of the people who made that suggestion in the other thread. I'm guessing similar things have been said already, but anyway...

I'm not offended by seeing skin at all, and I think it's silly to be offended by nudity. And Samara is actually one of my favorite characters in the ME universe. But I think it's a bit silly for a character that's basically a warrior monk to run around half naked, not to mention it seems impractical. The outfit just doesn't seem to suit her character. Not to mention Morinth is all covered up and Samara isn't - that just doesn't make any sense if you consider that the conflict between those two characters mostly revolves around sex.

The Liara side-boob is a totally different story, that's during a sex scene, so obviously there's nothing wrong with her being naked. I actually think it's kind of a shame that the sex scenes were toned down in ME2.

That make sense to you?

Its not a problem with asari sexuality, but Samara being sexualised.

Morinth? Sure. Dress her as sensuously and seductively as you want. I will enjoy the view.

Liara? I very much enjoyed what i saw on the night before Ilos.

The strippers? Sure, why not, they add atmosphere.

I do understand the in universe perspective. Aliens are different. I just cant erase the knowledge that she is dressed that way for eyecandy.

Its like the asari murderer on Ilium during Samara's recruitment mission. In game, i dont know that she is the killer of that volus. But i still know that she is. Its damn hard not to pull that renegade interrupt.

Femsheps armour accentuates her curves slightly more then in ME 1, but you have lots of other armour options and Femshep is player defined, so there is no chance if a character clash between her appearence and her demeanor.

As for authors, its their responsibility to occasionally challenge us and our views, but Samara feels more like someone in marketimg walked past as they were finalising her desimg and said "more sexy". It devalues the character.

Jedi don't walk around in robes in vacuum space, either. And they don't have their cleavage hanging out.

And being a biotic does not negate the need for armor in all situations.

I've never seen a Jedi go out into vacuum space to begin with, and to be fair, female Jedi seem to be a minority, so it's kinda hard to say whether or not female Jedi would show cleavage when most of the Jedi in the movies were men.

Most strong Biotics don't wear armor, so I'd say that either armor gets in the way of Biotics with substantially high Biotic abilities, or at least that they're confident enough in their Biotic abilities that they don't feel the need to wear armor.

I'd say the thing is that jedi robes don't protect from any serious damage. It would be the same thing if Samara had covered her cleavage with the same material her outfit is made of. And I also agree with the impression that armor weakens biotics (Just like star wars) plus slows down a person who doesn't need it

This topic seems weird. Some people say the only problem is the impracticality, some say it's only the way of making her a sex-object and some say it's both, and some say there is no problem. It's difficult to form an image of what the problem really is

The problem is that there are a pair of blue breasts that Shepard is denied access to because of age discrimination...and therefore it is unfair.

Since there isn't any law in the Terminus Systems, he can't really sue anyone so he's SOL.

One can approach Samara's outfit from two sides: "That's what she chooses to wear" and "That's what Bioware put her in". This will, most likely, dictate your entire reaction.
