Where did they say you are "forced" to love them?

When did we start basing judgements on reality?

People have already pointed out to you how every Origin had people that you were "forced" to care about.

Not every one of them was human

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Dwarf, elf, or human, BioWare forced this upon the player in the last game. Nothing has changed.

The problem us that hawke sister is a companion. Having a family member as a party member is so boring because you know she will be loyal and won't betray you and her motivations will be the same as yours.

You don't have any sisters do you.

What does that have to do with your original post that started this thread?  You've already complained ad nauseum about the fact we have to play as a human, but in THIS thread you rant about being forced to love someone.

You got called on your post in this thread, and people pointed out that the same applied in Origins (being "forced" to care about someone), and now you're backtracking to rant about your original "bah we have to play as human!" thing.

I'm sorry, maybe I missed something, but where has it been said that you HAVE to care about your family in DA2?

Edit: Or, um, what The Edge said.

Apparantly you must be human to be considered a "person". <_< *eyeroll*

I think once you introduce other sapient beings the definition is automatically extended to them, as well. (And, philosophically speaking, that is indeed the case)

Here we go, Kordaris moving the goalposts. Go figure.

And to be fair, we control Hawke at a turning point in his life (destruction of Loethring) and what happened beforehand (childhood, family experiences, etc) is decided by Bioware. So unless we have the option of deciding whether or not our parents sucked, we are sort of stuck playing with that childhood.

Besides, I wouldn't be surprised if we could express some sort of angst via conversations, if that's what some prefer.

I am the younger brother to my sisters but I have not been the little one in a very long time. Being I am six foot eight inchs tall and the women in my family are around five foot two.

/getting more suspicious

My "little" brother has also grown freakishly tall. Tell me, do you remember an incident around 1994 that involved a toy truck being judiciously thrown at your forehead (by a well-meaning individual who is most definitely not me) causing a big bruise and a minor blackout?

[If you do remember this incident, you are definitely not my little brother as he still represses that memory like the good lad he is.]

Depending on how you define "people," they could mean humans, elves, dwarves, etc., but this word is ordinarily used to refer to humans. It is arguable semantics of course. I was merely trying to point out why he started talking about humans..

As I cannot recall this, the only conclusion is that I am your brother.

The first two definitions of the word comprise a group of sentient beings. Like Moosejaw said, he's just moving the goalposts.

Dammit I knew he was somewhere here. You know I don't like it when you experience some minor form of enjoyment in the long dreary existence which is your life! Get off the internets before I throw something at you.**

**Because you are now an adult the "something" will probably be sharper and more life-threatening than a toy truck. Never say that your sister doesn't respect your growth as an individual <3

I agree. But, like I said, it is arguable. If you look at the definition of the word "elf," for example, in the same dictionary, it carefully avoids the word "person" (first definition). They call them "beings."

Also, I have to admit, I moonlight as a chick on these forums. And I love Alistair. So...be sure to tell mom.

There is no definition for DAO elves in the dictionary--they are different beings with the same name.

Actually, in philosophy at least, person refers to any being who has rights. So, for example, intelligent aliens would be people, but not humans, and in Dragon Age elves and dwarves would be people.

(Ha, that philosophy degree was totally not useless!)

Well, that makes it an issue of the first impression. It's semantics, we could argue about it all day.

I just did. Mom told me to tell you that she still loves you, and hopes that you take some medication for that "gay disease" that is catching on nowadays because Obama is a socialist.

I bet you can make Hawke generally hate his family, i know you can be pretty uncaring through the human noble story if you like.

Its Dave From Canada isn't it!! That proves it. I knew Obama wasn't a real American.
