That means 30 years as a warden.
yea 30 years from the time you drank from the cup to be a grey warden, what makes you guys think of this? If this were the cause, then all grey wardens would die so fast that they would not have any to fill the charts, the death toll would be horride.

No. Not 30 years to live after you drank.
Your warden only lives until he/she is 30.
Eventually the taint will turn your warden into a ghoul... That is why most wardens go to the deep roads on their calling. When they get the real nightmares...which Duncan was having.
If you expect your warden to live till he/she is fifty....you will be disapointed.

No your warden only has 30 years to live. So what if someone who already is thirty drank the blood? Alistar said you have 30 years to live do you really think they will put a king on the throne who only has 10 more years left.OriginsIsBest wrote...

Riordan makes it clear that his joining was, "more years ago than I care to remember." He's quite a bit older than 30 as well.OriginsIsBest wrote...

Edit: Edited to add quote AND to point out that both Duncan and Riordan were supposed to be in their mid-forties.

Your warden lives to he/ she is around 30...that could mean 30,31,32 ect.
Why is their a calling? You get the nightmares at a certain age. ( same age as Duncan.) AROUND 30.
If your warden doesnt go on his/her calling...you will die with the taint...simple.

If that is true, where is the wiki fact? Where does it say this, it's bs, to think that both Duncan and Roadin,"how ever you spell his name are 30." So Logain was turned........he sure as hell is not 30 and don't feed me that line of BS that he is.
What I guess Alister and the Warden where either 10 to 15 and Logain was 25.......bs, you can go sell hat line to someone else.

YES! Duncan, isnt young. He is around 30, thats why he is getting the real nightmares. Duncan doesnt look old...You people think he looks old because he has a beard. Jez even Hawke looks about 30.
Riordan says "The taint will not spare me much longer" He is obviously around 32 ...33 or whatever.
Whenever you guys see a Grey warden with white hair let me know....(YOUR PC DOESNT COUNT)

Check dragon age wiki it states "The Calling begins with nightmares or voices from the Archdemon, the same "call" the darkspawn hear to search for the Old Gods, approximately 30 years after their joining. According to ritual, the Grey Warden descends underground and celebrate before entering the Deep Roads to slay as many darkspawn before dying from the darkspawn." Let me put that in bold for you.OriginsIsBest wrote...

In addition to this, I believe there are at least 20 years between the start of the Calling and the start of DAO which would put Duncan in his late 30s/early 40s. For what it's worth, the toolset has Duncan at 42 and Riordan at 45 (though this is how the voice should sound, not definitive of the age).
Whatever, Duncan was alive over 20 years between his joining and his being killed at Ostagar.

There´s also Fiona, who apparently kept Warden powers but got free from the Calling after the second novel. No doubt Wardens are looking into that.Theagg wrote...
As someone else above pointed out ( and I had mentioned in another thread before ), there is Avernus, providing you spared him and his research.
Which means it could pay off in the future and thus spare Wardens that particular 'ghoulish' fate. And with 30 years, that a great deal of time for him to succeed in his research.
If the Warden dies here then I probably stop DA here. Hate when they kill a character in order to replace him/her for another.
Ahh, I have not read any of the novels so was unaware of Fiona
As for all this speculation about the Warden dying in the Witchhunt DLC. Well, Bioware would really hack off a sizeable portion of players if they did that.
But more to the point, my Warden, dying in a 2 bit, 2 hour DLC, that would just be a dying shame, she needs a 20 hour send off ! Besides, she is doing a tour of the Qunari homeland with Sten, so....
Democracy speaks and all that stuff, so I just wonder, given a poll, how many players would prefer their Warden lives on for a later date, and later appearance versus how many don't give a damn..hmmm.

indeed there are quotes, maybe you should look them up before posting a bunch of nonsense, if you actually read the text in game, you would very well know you have around 30 years to live after you have taken the joining, not before, and duncan cannot be 30 as you say, it's just not fitting, he looks older than most characters and the fact he also said to be 'old friends' with many older characters in the game (for example the elf in the alienage, forget his name.) adds to this point.

He was meant to be an older man, well past 30, more like 50 or 60. This is why Bioware chose an older actor to voice him . Peter Reneday the voice actor in question being 75 years old.
Next he will be insisting Wynne was a sprightly 22 year old.....

Again, the timeline between the Calling and Origins shows that you are not correct (Duncan is in both, as a Gray Warden). However, the older you are when you do the joining, the faster you'll succumb to the taint. What the warden says to anyone about how long Wardens live is pretty irrelevant -- the warden doesn't know much at all about the Gray Wardens.
I understand, though, where you're coming from. What Alistair says is ambiguous.

"They have about thirty years to live give or take a few after their Joining." In Dragon Age Journeys Martine tells the player character that Grey Warden's after 40 years of service goes to the Deep Roads for the remainder of their lives fighting the Darkspawn until the taint over takes them or killed by the Darkspawn. That is quite a bit of difference in lifespan. --Revan's Exile 03:46, November 30, 2009 (UTC)
Alistair says thirty. Coroxn 00:20, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
Okay so if you join the Grey Wardens at age 20, and do 30 years of service you go to your Calling how old will you be? If you said 50 you are correct. Is it set in stone no even Alistair says 30 years give or take a few years. Some may be able to push 40 years of service others may only endure 25.

You need to read the prequel books. Duncan was in his late teens during the course of The Calling. Alistair is conceived in that book. I doubt Alistair is twelve and Duncan and Riordan are in their early 30's. Plus in The Calling, some of the Wardens Duncan is traveling with are in their 50's. (Genevieve and Bregan) Gaider wrote both books. (The Calling and The Stolen Throne)
Origins is Best.. if you want to get your facts and canon straight... read the books and then try to make a worthwile contribution.
Also, you aren't guaranteed 30 years; it is 30 years to live... It is thirty years before the taint begins to change the Wardens... this is detailed, AT GREAT LENGTHS, by Gaider in Calling.
