Actually, just because he's in proximity to the Warden doesn't mean he's a companion. He could be an enemy attacking one of the Warden's companions, or just an ally in a big fight.

Again, I'm inclined to think that the last companion to be unlocked will be a rogue. Otherwise, there's a BIG gap in the party makeup.

If there are no important chests to be unlocked or significant traps, perhaps a rogue isn't strictly required.  (I've considered playing Awakening without one at all...so a shorter DLC could manage without as well.)  It's also possible that that's not Barkspawn/Dog, but Rover (a random Mabari who's either a temporary companion or a "blue circle" non-party ally).  Keep in mind also that even with RtO, not every Warden has a Dog by the end. 
All any of us can do is speculate--for my part, I hope that's my Barkspawn, but I expect that the third unrevealed party NPC is *not* the dog who some noted in the screenshots and that we just saw running around in the trailer.

I agree. It seems to me to be pure speculation, with a lot of wishful thinking mixed in. Nothing wrong with that! We get attached to our companions.

I just never really cared much about Dog. He wasn't really a great conversationalist, know what I mean? Hell, I left mine in the camp as soon as I could, and there he stayed.

It is of course an assumption, but there are some clues that point to that. Look in the trailer at 0.38-0.39. It looks to me like 3 people and a dog. Shouldn't we assume that if there is a dog in the party, then it is the warden's Dog from DA:O?

No, not really, as I mentioned. It goes against common sense, to begin with. There are three classes -- warrioir, mage, rogue -- and three compaions upcoming. They'd give us two warriors? Ariane and Dog? And a mage, but no rogue?

What if your Warden's not a rogue?

I just can't imagine the writers doing that.

Be it, typing or Live Action. The thing is....this game is a single player game, there is no actual interaction, you can't display the real emotion you would have in such a thing, you have very limited options on what 'you' would do. That isn't real roleplay. So if you read aloud what the line of text is telling you to say....Thats, just reading a script which is NOT the first thing that would have come into your mind....I'm all for Roleplay, but to dismiss Hawke because you like to read what the game is telling to you aloud, you can just mute the TV anytime he speaks and read it aloud yourself. =/

I'm not dismissing Hawke, I'm merely stating he is not in the spirit of the original game and its that shift, that loss of spirit I am concerned about ( He/she is far more 'Mass Effect' than DA ) The muting the audio option though would be a right pain to play because then I would have to quickly unmute in time to catch the NPC's reply.

I would also add that many of the NPC voice actors do a damn fine job of reading the script and conveying emotion without any interaction whatsoever with either you the player, or any of the other character actors...

I can't truly dismiss the Hawke character until I have seen in game footage, rather than a snazzy CGI trailer and some rave previews. Likewise people can't truly be 'on board' until they have seen such, so you do seem overly commited at times on the basis of that.

To be honest though, I'm perfectly happy that you feel your wardens time is done and over, that you feel there is nothing more for your warden to live for. I'm not telling you to think otherwise.

Others don't feel that way about their warden, nor do they feel Bioware has done the wardens tale justice, the story being incomplete and a short DLC that buries the warden for good is not the greatest epitaph for them. They feel that character had much more life in them, at least 30 years in some cases.

The real point being that just because Gaider and co write it so, does not make it necessarliy right, or good.

True. The same thing happens if you have a rogue/ranger and he summons an animal companion.

But then, that summoned animal won't be "Dog" from the Origins story. It'll just be a "summoned" mabari hound.

Maybe. But the character description on the WH site doesn't say that.

And we haven't yet seen -- at least to my knowledge -- a character based on a mix on two of the three basic types (rogue, warrior, mage).

I mean, if that were the case -- and at this stage we're playing with pretty high level characters -- why haven't we been given the option of branching our Warden out like that?

Yes, I stopped taking dog along with me well before the end of Origins because it was just getting too tough for the guy. Left him back home with some cats.

I really like the idea that the mirrors could be used to find Arlathan.  While I'm not sold on the connection between Arlthan and the Black City (and I must agree with an earlier post than even if this connection were true, it's much to big to drop on us in a DLC that is not going to stretch much beyond 2 hours) the connections that exist between the mirrors of Tevinter, the fact that at least one party member is looking for a stolen Dalish relic, and that another is an expert in Tevinter lore, align well with the idea of find whatever (if anything) is lef tof Arlathan.  Furthermore, ahving just replayed the Dalish Origin, the line just before Tamlen disappears mentions an underground city.  Naturally that could just be a lost taig, but the legends say that the Imperium caused Arlathan to be swalloed up into the ground, so....well.  Theory fits eveidence, as a certain Salarian once said.

I did play Amgarrak, and that golem was a "mage", if you found the upgrades for him. Particularly as a basic "healer".

No, there'll be a rogue of some kind, of that I'm sure. Will Ariane be a "warrior/rogue"? I guess that's possible. But at this point we're playing such high-level characters that I can't see where she'd be effective enough at either if she's some kind of split class.

Dog is basically a tank/warrior. He's pretty useless otherwise. We already know about Finn, a high-level (by neccessity) mage. Ariane is a warrior, and she'll need a high level of specialization to be effective at level-30+ combat. So she really can't be multi-class. High level rogues have other skills that take a full game to develop: the ability to summon familiars, for example. Just like the dwarf in Angorrak.

I strongly doubt Dog's the last character to be unlocked.

Well, my Dog was an utter rogue, so if he is in it, problem solved...

Dog could be a freebieoptional party member.  I'll admit that they haven't done that in DLC, but there is clearly a mabari in both the screenshots and the trailer.  Personally, I just would like the mabari to make some kind of appearance.  I like dogs!

Ah well...there was...The Golem which you had to activate and find spells to teach him/rebuild him w/e.
He was not some real mage but he could throw group heal and some other spells here and there...

edit: oh BrianRB already said it..sorry I am slow...hehe

Indeed but at the sametime there comes a point where you have to let things go. Obviously 'FOR NOW' the Warden's days are done. Which is fine, Do you know what happends when they try to continuously make sequeals and such? Eventually it gets degraded and unrealistic. For example, The Resident Evil Series, how many times can one person end up in a terrible situation filled with Zombies? It just loses it's sense of realism(As real as something like DA, Resident Evil, or Mass Effect can be anywho.)  But the main thing I responded to, was what you were saying as Roleplaying. Of course the NPC's read off their script beautifully, thats the point of them. They have their emotions/opinions that was never in the discussion. However, the point still stands, If YOU were to read off what your character says, it still would just be reading what the game allows you, therefore not actually you roleplaying any of it. It's just as I said before.


If you want to roleplay, it's honestly way better when doing it with other people. Not a single player game, and I truely hope they'd never try and make a single player game like that, for the fact it would likely bomb in sales, majority of gamers don't feel the same about RPing as you or I might.

Also, your Warden does have a "voice" of sorts. Yes, the warden does have a voice. It's your inner voice, the one in your own head, the one that reads the lines and if you seriously want to roleplay it, imagines reading that with added inflection of your own. You imagine how you would say that dialogue.

Serious LARPers can even, if they feel so inclinded, read the chosen line of dialogue out loud, in the appropriate manner, then listen to the NPC voice actors reply. That's dedication, or insanity, take your pick.

In other words, the wardens dialogue is you...

Hawke, on the other hand, will have no such luxury or room for roleplaying, nothing for you to play with in your mind. Hawke will merely be a pre voiced, pre packaged entity that you nudge in a certain direction, with that sense of you playing the warden presents having been removed because Hawke is audibly presented with the actual voice of another..

Yes well...Hawke sucks, and I cant wait for this DLC, so I get some closure and move on to another game.

I agree, David and company will kill off the Warden to never be used again to make way for  thier Hawke.

Hell, it says your Warden's last saga, if that is not a punch in your face that they are done with him/her.

I am afraid that this DLC will be one of the worst endings I have ever seen, I have bought the points to see this bitterhell to the end.

I have to say that I think they make Morrigan go into the mirror and then the Warden comes after her into the Mirror and then it ends. I can see them doing that. I bet they make the Warden get taken over in DA3 by one of the evil gods.   Hawke is no more yours then any other premade character, hell his story is picked out and told, how lame.   Having them to make the Warden carry over is too much work for them and thus, they are lazy, so thus you have Hawke.

Ah well...there was...The Golem which you had to activate and find spells to teach him/rebuild him w/e.
He was not some real mage but he could throw group heal and some other spells here and there...

Or to put it more blunty...no. Besides it was a mere deviation from the norm in response to someone elses post about 'voice', hardly a cataclysmic effort aimed at a deliberate topic change.. Perhaps you need to practice some breathing exercises, you are much less likely to be rattled by minor violations.

Indeed, I did mention that earlier, Warden sucked into a terryfying dimension in which live the Elder Gods. And just like Lisa Blounts character in JC's movie "Prince of Darkness" ( which had a nice shiny, glowing mirror to the hell dimension containing a trapped Satan ) being sucked in and reemerging at a future date as a host to one of them.

Now, of course, this DLC won't do that.....probably...but mirrors in fantasy/horror stories often are about evil forces on the other side out to posses and/or draw in the viewer, so it wouldn't be a surprise if that happened
