I haven't read the entire thread so this may have been mentioned but doesn't the creature at 0:40 look like a strider from DA 2?

@Theagg I agree with your logic when it comes to the timelines in that the Warden can't die after 1 year in Witch Hunt if he/she apparently disappears after SEVERAL years in Origins/Awakening/Other DLC. I also agree that the DA team can very well retcon the whole mess and hope we don't notice. That said, I'm still seriously hoping this isn't the end of our Wardens as far as major titles go.

I'm still hanging on to the glimmer of hope that was Christ Priestly saying earlier in this thread that in regards to a possible Warden appearance after DA2, we'll just have to "wait and see". Its not a complete shutout, even if all other signs are pointing to this being the final Warden-involved DA thing.

Yes, if they were to *cough* retcon the series now, hoping people have short memories, it does blow my trust in them as good writers, for having done that so soon to very recent past work, it hardly instills confidence in how they handle work going forward.

But I trust they are better writers than to do that..

They've already changed things in the ending through patches and whatnot. I don't see why they couldn't do it again. It's not a SERVERELY huge difference if he disappeared a year or so later, or a couple. Thats not that serious of a deal....Specially since it just came as Text after the game had been finished...I see no issue with them making creative differences. =P Thats like saying they could never make something intereasting happend to the NPC in your party because it claimed, "They lived for many years." So now our NPC party members have no chance at dying? No thanks,  things such as text after you've beatend the game will ALWAYS be subject to change, as they've already done. It just gets patched up with the changes. =P

This DLC takes place 1 year after the ending of Origins and many here are assuming this will end with the wardens demise, death or disappearance. In fact they are eager for it to be so.

However, many of the epilogue variants in Awakenings clearly state that the warden mysteriously vanishes......but not until several years later. ( ie, "some", "a few", "after a number of".....depending on which epilogue. )

Note, not one year......

So if the writers want to be true to the epilogues they themselves created, that many players will have received at game, then the warden cannot disappear or die in Witch Hunt..

Its that simple. Live with it. Because thats what the writers have told us.

And I will point out again that several epilogues state clearly that despite vanshing after that period ( greater than one ) that "neither does anyone think his/her tale is complete..." ( thus even years later, there possibly was more to be heard from that iconic character )

It could be though that the writers have conveniently forgotten what they themselves penned in the rush to push out DA 2 and will summarily dismiss the warden in this DLC. In which case that would amount to a betrayal of sorts, both to players and also of their own work..

However, I trust the writers are not that kind of person, that they clearly knew what they meant when using those specific words in the epilogue and therefore they are sitting back watching what is unfolding in this post, somewhat amused at those here who seem to have missed that key information and are instead baying for the warden's death NOW..

I await to see if my trust in them as consistent writers is justified.

Actually, if you made the Wardern said at the end of Origins that he is going after Morrigan, at Awakening's epilogue is stated that he vanished one year after the Blight's end.

I think I chose that option too when Alistair asked my PC what she would do now. However, since she had a romance with him, I got the King-Queen-Happily ever after-Ending. Maybe only a male PC with Morrigan romance will be allowed to vanish completely?

It is important because well, thats all we got as regards our characters future, a series of 'slides' at game end. Those are what the writers gave us for our gaming efforts. They therefore have to mean something since nothing else was on offer and if the writers casually rewrite the results of how our game choices play out, then what is the point of having a game that offers player choices ?

I take it you are not a writer because a writer who played by those 'discontinuity' rules wouldn't endear themselves to fans for long.

Besides, why is it so important to you that the warden die ( or be as good as dead ) now ? Are you seriously saying you will be unable to play Hawke in DA 2 if in some way the warden lives on  ?

What does Hawke have to do with our warden biting dust? They can easily coexist and it will most likely be the case.



Ok one might say there is not enough room for 2 heroes in the same Ferelden, but seeing how DA 2 is not set in the same region, whats the problem ?

Well...either the Warden dies or vanishes for some time, not to be seen for some time. I don't think our Warden / Wardens will die, I guess Bioware just wants to scare us. Somehow I think the Warden will vanish in some way... I mean; Morrigan + that mirror means trouble I tell you! I doubt Morrigan can or will kill our Warden, but we shall see. Anyway...I doubt our Warden / Wardens die anyway.

Well, it turns out Dog IS the last character unlocked. I have to say, I'm surprised.



Maybe Ariane isn't a true "warrior" but is a rogue, which is kinda warrior-lite. If your Warden is a warrior, and Dog's a warrior/tank (as we know), then your party would consist of three warriors and a mage. That would be pretty unbalanced. And it would certainly limit your combat tactical and strategic options.

It is a Strider from DA2.

Good catch.  Similar to Golems of Amgarrak, WH allows you to encounter a DA2 creature for the first time.

They've already changed things in the ending through patches and whatnot. I don't see why they couldn't do it again. It is important because well, thats all we got as regards our characters future, a series of 'slides' at game end. Those are what the writers gave us for our gaming efforts. They therefore have to mean something since nothing else was on offer and if the writers casually rewrite the results of how our game choices play out, then what is the point of having a game that offers player choices ?

I take it you are not a writer because a writer who played by those 'discontinuity' rules wouldn't endear themselves to fans for long.

Besides, why is it so important to you that the warden die ( or be as good as dead ) now ? Are you seriously saying you will be unable to play Hawke in DA 2 if in some way the warden lives on  ?

No, and I am a writer thank you very much. And to be honest with you, if you plan out an entire book before hand, and never make a change to it, then THAT is being a bad writer, being able to adapt and change as the story goes on is what made some of the best books out there, planning ahead is good, to an extent. Them changing a few things in the text after a game ends, really wouldn't bother me. If they changed something like....The game itself, that would be moreso a problem.

And I never stated it HAS to be this way, he HAS to die! But for you to say he 'can't' die because of the text at the end of the game..../Sigh at that. If you look back at all the time's responded to you, I never once said, "The Warden HAS to die! It's his time! He MUST DIE!!!!!" No, lol I'll be fine and well if the Warden lives, but for everyone saying it'd be the worst thing ever, and it's not fair, yada yada....I just have to laugh a little. Sure I'll actually be very upset for a while if my Warden indeed does die, but in a different way. I won't curse Bioware for daring to ever put our Warden's in such a position. They usually do well with their storylines so untill they give me reason to believe they are ruining their(Keyword THEIR) Game World, then I'm not going to scream bloody murder at them about how they do everything wrong, and how Hawke will be terrible compared to the Warden.

I have to agree with Aggman here on this argument. Zerroth, I respect your stance on trying to get everyone to move on with the Warden and to advance our concerns and attention towards Hawke's spotlight, but the approach of which you take route suggests indeed that you are badgering the Warden's survival skills and wish him dead beyond normal craving.

There is no rule of thumb stating that two heroes cannot coexist. Once again I will state my reference towards Onimusha Dawn of Dreams and allow you to hear that it is possible for main characters (from previous titles) have chosen to stay behind in the mortal world to assist the newly risen prodigy of a hero in ridding of the renowned evils recently declared.

As far as Dragon Age goes, maybe Bioware is stating the lack of presence of the Warden in the Ferelden sense; maybe the Warden "disappeared" from Ferelden at the time and ventured up onto the Free Marches to help Hawke, at some point and given the appropriate preference by the player, to render the mission which Hawke begins. Just a thought and one which I believe the crowds on the forums would consider as well as those already mentioned.

Ah, so the dog is the final party member, then? I have nothing against my Dog so far...he guards the camp site with his life. xD I'm playing through the Origins on the Nightmare mode, as a Human Noble female, and can't wait for WH now. I was hoping for Shale as the last companion, but as his former self - the Dwarf female named Shayle. That'd would have been hilarious, as he did have a thing for mages in general...and birds of course, but hey...

And also: Since I doubt our Warden dies, I'm gonna try and remind you all of the Sloth Demon in the Mage Tower. He said we deserve so much more...why don't we take a rest? Or something like that... perhaps our Warden simply takes a well earned rest.

With respect, its also a game which players have parted with their money to enjoy. So to have the writers effectively rubbish and retcon nearly 50% of the available epilogue endings on a whim, ( despite players feeling that those epilogues, minimal though they were, gave their characters existence post Origins some meaning and a sense of direction that was not finalised 'in game' ) would actually be a bit disrespectful. ( Since hey, we the players are in part paying the writers wages )

Also, I disagree that the best books etc are those written with no solid plan. Often the worst books end up like that. TV shows too (LOST being a prime example of a show obviously lacking a plan, BSG seemingly fell into that too, despite the phrase "and they have a plan" in every opening title. )

This DLC takes place 1 year after the ending of Origins and many here are assuming this will end with the wardens demise, death or disappearance. In fact they are eager for it to be so.

However, many of the epilogue variants in Awakenings clearly state that the warden mysteriously vanishes......but not until several years later. ( ie, "some", "a few", "after a number of".....depending on which epilogue. )

Note, not one year......

So if the writers want to be true to the epilogues they themselves created, that many players will have received at game, then the warden cannot disappear or die in Witch Hunt..

Its that simple. Live with it. Because thats what the writers have told us.

And I will point out again that several epilogues state clearly that despite vanshing after that period ( greater than one ) that "neither does anyone think his/her tale is complete..." ( thus even years later, there possibly was more to be heard from that iconic character )

It could be though that the writers have conveniently forgotten what they themselves penned in the rush to push out DA 2 and will summarily dismiss the warden in this DLC. In which case that would amount to a betrayal of sorts, both to players and also of their own work..

However, I trust the writers are not that kind of person, that they clearly knew what they meant when using those specific words in the epilogue and therefore they are sitting back watching what is unfolding in this post, somewhat amused at those here who seem to have missed that key information and are instead baying for the warden's death NOW..

I await to see if my trust in them as consistent writers is justified.

I think you are right, I didn't think of it like that, but the Warden might just leave as it says in DAA, to find himself again and what he should do. If this is the one that romanced Morrigan.  I have a feeling she will turn out to betray him but he will not be able to kill her, hell I don't think I could either. So he leaves and goes off for the next 10 years, to Maker knows where.


So could set the Warden up for future games, just not DAO as they are ending that story, I could see them using the Warden again, you could do it just like they do DLC, pick one of two characters or a new one, I like that alot better then being forced into playing a certain character.

If they leave the Warden alive, they leave themselfs open to make more stoires of him/her.  I would like that.

Who knows when the Warden may be called on again for help  and in what lands and with who he/she will have to deal with.
