I don't know what I'm doing but this game is constantly crashing on me. My FIOS is down and I'm using my phone tethered to my pc for internet at the moment so a complete reinstall is not possible. I'm currently on patch 1.04 and my drivers are the latest releases from the nvidia site. I was having 5 minute to 1 hour crashes, but now the game won't load.  It was downloaded through steam.

I tried to download the latest patch from the bioware website, but when I went to install it, it told me that I couldn't use it on the steam version. I validated the files through steam, it had an update, and now it will let me click resume game, but crash on the loading screen.  I looked around and saw that maybe uninstalling adobe air would fix it, but alas I still have the same problems.

I've tried running Ccleaner and defrag the hard drives, but I dont know what to do at this point. My physx drivers, audio drivers, mobo software is all up to date, I've killed all nonessential processes and turned off my AV. Every other game I have runs just fine at stock and overclocked (Crysis, BC2, Just Cause 2, Mafia 2, Fallout 3, Empire: Total War, All Points Bulletin, etc).  The CPU has never blue screened, or caused a system crash or instability.

System is as follows and crashes at stock as well.

CPU:                I5-750 @ 4.0 GHz
Motherboard:  MSI P55-GD65
RAM:               Corsair XMS3 2x2 GB 1600 Mhz
Video Card:     PNY Geforce GTX470
PSU:                Thermaltake 1000w Toughpower
OS:                  Win 7 Pro x64

I apologize for making a new thread, but the other thread I saw contained only ATI users.

Edit:  I run the game with sliders maxed at 1920x1200.  Nvidia CP is set to allow the application to control all settings.  This crash still happens at 0xAA, 4xAA, 8xAA.

Just FYI, you should NEVER update a Steam game with an update designed for a retail version of the game. All updates for these games will be automatically applied thru Steam when Valve have them available.

You have to do that with the Stalker games, that's why I gave it a shot.

When you say that it crashes on loading screen, did you mean the loading screen you see after clicking Resume or the loading screen that opens when you launch DA:O?

In the former case, have you tried to load another saved game (ie other than the last one which is automatically used when resuming) ?

In the latter case, I have noticed that Mafia 2 is also installed. I have an issue with PhysX drivers that prevent DA:O launching after installing the Mafia 2 demo thru Steam. Here are the steps I follow to solve this issue:
- uninstall NVidia PhysX from Windows Add/Remove Program panel
- download and install Drive Sweeper
- launch this program and select "Analyse and clean" in the Home section on the left of the interface
- in the right hand list, check only NVIDIA - PhysX
- Click Analyse button at the bottom. Once the top list has been updated click Clean and confirm you want to clean the entries present in the list.
- Once the clean process is complete, close all application and reboot your computer
- reinstall PhysX using the installer located in Steam\\SteamApps\\common\\mafia ii\\3rd folder.

I've already fixed the Mafia 2 physx problems. I always run driver sweeper when installing new drivers as we. I'll try out a new game right now, but I've also put a lot of time into the current game I'm running.

It crashes after I press resume.

I was able to load up a different save on a different character (one that I dont like lol). It didn't crash, but passing the loading screen and being able to move around was a good sign. My main character that I play most often, the saves, still crash at the loading screen for some reason.

Any third-party mods (.dazip and override) installed that should explain this issue?

I have an override folder. Should I delete it?

No. But you should move its content to a temporary folder outside Override folder.

I'm crashing like crazy with CTDs in 1.04 too. I don't have any mods =( 1.03 never crashed, except for in ostagar if I played too long and let mem leaks build up.

Without any details about your setup, it's rather difficult to try to help you.

So actually deleting the override folder fixed it. I just had to run steam and have it validate the files.
