Anyone else dressing up for Halloween and as what?

I always do something for Halloween, even if it's just some quick face-paint. Last year I was a dwarf commoner. Not sure what I'll do this year. Maybe another one of my custom war paint designs. Hm.

I am going as Zach Galifinakis from the Hangover was a last minute thought and it turned out quite well



On a side note, HOLY crap i had no idea that that pirate chick in Dragon AGe 2 is the very same Isabella from Origins!

Sure. I do an action/comedy comic set in a fantasy world of my own creation that I fleshed out a lot, and one aspect of that was the various cultures; one of them based off of North American native tribes pre-colonialism. So I designed a bunch of war/ceremonial paints for them. I made a chart for them years back, found here.

As for me actually wearing the war paint... Done it many times in many different styles, but this one's my favorite (southern tribes war chief design):

So I have been told many times. Both for making them on my own, and drawing them on characters. I love expressions, but then, I am an artist by (half) trade.

Research into color symbology in early American civilizations, imagination, patience, and just plain old nerdiness and attention to cultural detail. I'm a history/culture buff, so stuff like this comes naturally to me.

I also did animal face paint designs, which are meant to envoke a certain trait/quality of that animal; all but the eagle are my designs (the eagle was taken from an actual Dakota design).

Nerdy Fun fact about the messenger design: Red = war and white = peace, so the red is meant to symbolize the blood shed/battle going on (as well as to attract attention) but the white around the lips is meant to convey that the messenger brings words of peace, or at least peaceful intent. Those wishing to negotiate terms during war would wear that paint.

I'm not sure; when were you face painting? I roped several of my friends into wearing some of the designs for Halloween/fun over the years, so it's not a particularly hidden secret. Unless you don't know me and/or my fantasty setting, of course. (Which is the vast majority of people, really. )

There's nothing wrong with making things up on the spot. I do that too;
it just depends on my needs. In fact, it's not unusual for me to make
up something on the spot and find symbolism/significant meaning for it
