I'm adding custom music to my mod: I edit the 2da file correctly, put the bmu file in the nwn2 folder, it shows up in the dropdown menu, but nothing sounds.  These music files consistently do not sound as well:

mus_s_ammon
mus_s_darkspread
mus_s_gith
mus_s_nasher
mus_s_nwcity
mus_s_romance

Interestingly, these and my own additions in the ambientmusic.2da are the only entries which do not have a number under the "description" column.  Furthermore, sometimes NONE of the music files sound in the toolset; this seems to occur randomly.  Does anybody have any idea what's going wrong?

It might also interest you to know that I re-named a sound file I KNOW works in the toolset to my own "mus_responsible", and it that sound didn't play either, so it can't be a bit-rate / file format issue.

I'm not sure about custom music, but I seem to remember that to hear the music play in the toolset, you have to copy the music folder in the game directory into the MyDocs/NWN2 directory. Same goes with ambient sound.

I don't know if this is your issue.

I've used both folders, same issue.

Yup, I've put the file in the music folders in both the core NWN2 directory, and the MyDocs NWN2 directory.

I have no trouble at all with custom music,  and for what I remember, it's only 2da editing.

You probably made a mistake with your 2da.

I'm voting .2da naming issue. The key here is: "...It might also interest you to know that I re-named a sound file I KNOW works in the toolset to my own "mus_responsible", and it that sound didn't play either..." That should tell you something right there.

A file you know works, when renamed to one of your file names no longer plays. That's what I'd call a pretty strong connection. You just misinterpreted the results. There's clearly something amiss in your files -- but the sound files themselves are not the only files required. That pretty much leaves the .2da files.

Just my outside looking in logic here.

It's not the 2da file, it's the bmu file. I re-tested it with a renamed file I know works, and it pulled through. The reason it wasn't working before is that when the (my) toolset attempts to play an incompatible sound file, the toolset can't play music for the rest of the session. Anyways, I'll have to contact the author of the MP3 to BMU converter, since it keeps crashing when I try to use it. Thanks for your help,

No worries. I think there might also be another BMU convertor out there, but don't quote me on that.

I've had issues with some of the provided sounds not firing and had added my own custom music. In each case the override folder has worked for me. It's not elegant but it works.

I finally got it working. The toolset is very picky with the correct parameters of a sound file. On top of that, I had to work with WMA files. There's a great converter here for free.
