ok so hear me out me2 was a great game and im not putting it down at all. but im worried about me3. with all of the possibilities with who survived and who you romanced and so on that me3 is going to be almost impossible for anyone to make correctly. like i feel that we will have new squad members cuz the game is going to take a lot of resources to make everyones game different. i feel that almost everyone from me2 are going to just have cameos like wrex did, since he was easy to replace if he died in me1. i feel that bioware have pushed this great game into a cornor with all the possible twist in the game....

does anyone else feel this way??

i hope im wrong cuz i love this gameImage IPB

I do. I think BW messed up with so much content. I think they're trying to fix it through DLC by eliminating future problems and characters.

I hope Im wrong though, but if not, ME3 is going to suck (stabs self for saying that).

YES. I completely feel this way. I am extremely nervous that I won't get my favorite squad members back, and I have actually said to myself exactly what you have just said. Bioware did push themselves into a corner, and I do not want to run around in ME3 collecting brand new squad members like in 2. Believe me I hope you're wrong because I want my dream team in ME3 (that would be Garrus and Tali), and I'm sure everyone else feels the same way for their own respective dream teams.

I was anxious about losing my ME1 squad in ME2. Turned out though that the ME2 squad was a lot more interesting and refreshing. Who's to say that when ME3 comes out we won't get an equally (if not more) interesting squad than we got in ME2?

The Mass Effect 2 squad was awesome, but personally I am eager to move on and meet new squadmates. I won't be happy though if none of the ME2 squad reappear at all in ME3. :(

Mass Effect is a very successful and, more importantly, profitable franchise. I have no doubt that the resources invested in it are staggerimg because it is a guaranteed return of investment.

I am not particularly worried about the squadmates.

Mass Effect 2 was primarily about recruiting a team, with a thin excuse of a plot that they were hoping we wouldnt look at too closely.

All we need is the ME 2 squad + Virmire survivor + Liara.

In order to import, we have to have two characters survive.

That leaves us with at least four squadmates. Do not forget we could go through ME 1 only with Kaiden, Ashley, Tali, Wrex and (at the very end) Liara. Four characters until the second last mission. Do Virmire as soon as possible and you could be left with only Kaiden OR Ashley (no way to have both) and no Wrex. That means you have two characters if you leave recruiting Liara for as late as possible and avoid getting Garrus.

I feel the same way but i also feel that bioware is fully capable of delivering a great game as it has always done. Knocking on every type of wood i can find. ME 3 will have over 1000 possible endings with some having great differences and other with subtle ones.

I just posted a new topic on ME3 story thoughts read it i think even though my idea is flawed in some areas it will start a great discussion

Imo $$$$(budget) + Desire/Will/Patience(attention to detail/story/consequences) will be the biggest factors with ME3, rest is child's play.

I only started worrying about this stuff when I joined the ME forum lol. So, I'm going to keep my faith in bioware and trust that they do it right. All the choices and outcomes that they have to juggle is challenging, but it can be done. Look at Heavy Rain, for example.

That was 3.5 years ago (I think), things change, the game changed.

I think the best idea I've heard is limiting the max amount of squad members to 12-14. And it would allow for a strategy versus emotional connection thing when picking your squad.

I'm not expecting ME 3 to be the dramatic upgrade that ME 2 was from ME 1. Rather a few refinements. And there has to be a reason that it's so easy to survive the suicide mission with all characters or most of them. They want a large number of players to be able to experience all the characters. ME 2 already proves you can complete it without recruiting everyone. So what if you're reduced to a squad of 4 in ME 3 because you got everyone killed. There will always be a minimun squad.

If they bring back liara which theres no reason they can't really. It's not like the romantic relationship thing for liara was super indepth. Carrying over liara is ridicolously easy. Ash / Kaiden more difficult but not impossible since they kept them out of me 2.

They could put focus into story this time rather than recruitment, and maybe have 1 or 2 recruitable characters for good measure, like a baterian or something.

The only character I'm confident won't be recruitable again is wrex because he has higher responsibilities now that will likely play role in me 3. Plus we have grunt and we can continue to develop him as we can all the characters.

Even characters like Dr Chakwas and Kelly that can die. Are easily brought back for ME 3 because they didn't have that much dialog and never have done. So if they died they can easily be subtituted by another NPC.

Plus there's a much stronger connection to all the characters in me 2 it would make absolutely no sence having the player run round recruiting everyone again for the final mission. Just the same as it'd make no sence killing shepard again.

Kinda hoping for ME 3 there will be advancements in reaper tech that let you change your class... that would be better news to be than shepard dieing again and all squads leaving.

They'll design the game assuming you got the No one left behind achievement and saved your whole crew and subtract from there.

As long as I get some continuation with Tali, I'll be happy. And yea, when we invest ourselves in a good story, it's perfectly natural to get attached to characters.

Why do you think people watched shows like Scrubs, Stargate SG-1, Friends, and countless others for over 8 seasons worth?

Actually for me it's not about caring way too much for the squad mates, but rather the overall story arc.

There is lots of content left to realise in ME 3. And without having to worry about an ME4 that follows shepard - They can go all out with story variables (theres a lot more they could do ''than go around recruiting everyone again''). The only limitation infact is 360 disc space. They may just have to spread it accross 3 discs.

It would be a bit weird in the story, if you had to recruit a brand new squad from scratch for the ending of shepards story, for the final battle. Especially as the game is about building a team you can trust.

Failing that though, should they decide to pull some turn of events that result in the ''squad moving on'' I'd rather such was concluded in ME 2 than sprung on us in ME 3.

The only reason the squad mates play such a big role in ME3 is because BW realized they didn't have enough story for 3 games and they needed filler for the middle game. The characters are irrelevant.

If i am forced into more recruitment missions in ME 3, i will throw up my hands, tear off my clothes, and join the haters in declaring ME 2 a pointless waste of time.

Bioware if I am not mistaken is taking an extra year to work on ME3, plus Bioware is one (as of my knowledge) EA's largest developers and assets, and since ME3 will be like Halo 3 as to the similarity that it is highly anticipated. Since Bioware is a huge company able to work on 2 AAA title and a high budget MMO as well as DLC for the 2 different games.

Then Bioware has backing from EA with the high expectation (and almost certainty) that ME3 will sell BIG (Halo 3 big), I don't think you will have to worry about quality with the amount of resources and talent that are developing the finale. Plus Bioware has never created a game that was golden but most game standards, so none should worry. If anyone can pull off incorperating over 1000 permutation over 2 games into the 3rd and it the most epic thing ever, its Bioware.
Plus I'm quite certain that the major plot lines were mapped out during the inception and release of the 1st game. There is so much they can do with ME3 aside for just the Army building like DA:O, like say Shepard is hunted by Cerberus and/or the Citadel/Alliance or ME3 takes picks up as the Reaper Invasion begins. There is a lot of hope for ME3 to truly be epic without many cliches

You've also got to think that for ME 3 you can already pretty much rule out Zaed & Kasumi as they were DLC characters that weren't fully developed. But most importantly neither of them pledge undieing loyality to you in the spoken tongue. They are both hired by Cerberus to work for you.

Wrex appears to have a pretty fixed role.

So really it's 12 squad mates we're worrying about.

Miranda / Jacob / Virmire Survivor / Liara / Thane / Legion / Samara / Jack / Mordin / Garrus / Tali / Grunt

Realistly and at the risk of angering fans. You could said Thane died of his illness, Legion went off to explain the situation to the Geth / lead erm or got mauled by Cerberus, Although I think it'd be ashame to not capitalise on Legion more. Samara could leave to do her justicar thing. Bioware is collecting statistics they might look at the least popular characters and not transfer those over, like maybe Jack isn't as popular. You could be left with 8 fan favourites in ur squad (depending on who you kept alive, others could have dramatic impacts in the ME 3 story) This would leave plenty of room for new squad mates. So even if you botched it up and got a lot of people killed you'd still have 4-6 people in me 3. & Grunt is cool but also light on story. Let's face it no one is going to be absolutely gutted if the less developed more simplistic characters go.

Really it's mostly important to preserve   Miranda, Jacob, Virmie Survivor, Liara, Mordin, Garrus, Tali because I gurrantee you they will have picked up the most fan love. With the exception of legion if they can figure a good way to make it normal for a geth to appear in citadel space or at least have people react.
