Yeah basically. I outlined it more thoroughly in my next post. Basically *all* the paths would be hidden until you activated them. But yes.

*rubs chin thoughtfully*

Then this becomes an argument of how much influence the player should have over the NPCs.

Well yes, you sacrifice a consistent orientation for any given NPC in that system, and whether you know it or not you get to kind of be God in that one respect. But in Origins you are already given the chance to change your companions in minor or major (in the case of Leliana and Alistair) ways. Just not in that way.

You don't need to be god to influence your friends. And they don't have to be to influence you. It is just the question to what degree.

That's not really what I meant. I was talking about the PC determining sexual orientation of the NPCs through hidden gameplay mechanics. You can't do that to your friends. :P

Anarya, weren't most gays and lesbians satisfied or at least pleased with what was available to them in DA:O?

I have no idea, I'm actually hetero myself. I imagine it varies from person to person. I got the impression that Origins did a good job of being inclusive compared to other video games, yes, but as a gay person you still have half the choices of a straight person in your romances. I know some gay people complained about Zevran because they saw him as being "too stereotypical". Beyond that I don't really know.

Earlier you mentioned the modders who removed the need to be the opposite gender for the romance.

I feel this is the perfect solution.

BioWare can make a strong character who is their own individual according to their artistic vision, those who really dislike the option they are given can make a minor re-write.

I mean I guess you can see it as a perfect solution but a lot of people would disagree. Console gamers can't do that at all, and to have those mods on PC depends A. on someone putting the time and effort into making the mod, B. on whether the game can BE modded in the first place, and C. on the comfort and computer knowledge of the gamer. Some people just don't want to mess with mods or don't know how to install them.

Actually, i am a console gamer.

After hearing a great deal about the mods, i decided to try out the pc version.

Took about two or three hours to figure out how to install mods.

Sure but some people are bad at computers. I mean, really bad. And a lot of people wouldn't want to spend the money to re-buy the game on the PC if they already bought it for consoles.

Most homosexual gamers I know are PC gamers anyway.

Though actually, I would think that a homosexual gamer would find more satisfaction in a romance specifically written as homosexual, like Leliana's, than in a romance written as heterosexual which they have modded to be homosexual. One is forced homosexuality and the other is scripted homosexuality.

Just like the actual gay experience - there's less people to choose from. Yea, I did hear some displeasure about Zevran (but not Leliana). But that's more of disliking Zevran personally than disliking the amount of options. Besides those who didn't like Zevran (I don't hear this much from gay people actually), seems like most of the LGBT community was pleased with DA:O. However I am not gay myself, so I can't speak for them, it's just the impression I got.

Ah. A gay man is a woman's best friend. How come all my gay male friends aren't sassy like that? They're all shy closet-type gays who don't flaunt their gayness. It's a shame.

Silly breeders gays are only 1% of the population, one of you quoted a 'study' saying so! So we had to cut your gay best friend rations way back. We can't get anyone out *waggles eyebrows* for at least 69 days. Until then all you got is a sarcastic lesbian, sorry!

I think most gaymers were satisfied with Zevran, I know I was. Those who complained would also have complained if Alistaire was the bi option. And I don't recall anyone complaining that there are more heterosexual than homosexual romances, because most gays are well aware that we are a minority and a equal number of LIs for both gay and straight characters would be bad resource management.
And lets face it widening the number of possible LIs does not create more satisfaction. Because the players will always want the unavailable NPCs(Tali in ME1;Samara in ME2, Wynne,Sten and Loghain in DA:O and everyone in DA:A). Having the choice to have a romance or not is way more important, than to be able to pick your favorite from a whole selection of available options

Tell us, sarcastic lesbian, about your take on whether all LIs should be accessible to you by making all characters bi. Oh and tell us if you've ever modded a hetero relationship to make it homosexual and how you think it compares to homosexual relationships actually scripted that way. And tell us if you have a problem with strictly hetero LIs. Oh, oh, and tell us what you think of the L Word. TELL US EVERYTHING!

I thought dao did it very well and the dragon age people have been consistently supportive (in contrast to the mass effect bunch) so I'd be surprised if they didnt do the same sort of thing in da2.

When did this devolve into a should everyone has to be bi thread? It started out with the op asking if there would be at least a bi or gay option at all.

Eh? She has a homosexual romance. It's not the only romance she has, no, but she does have a homosexual romance.
